Sunlight apartments were built by Costas, the owmer, and his character is reflected in them. They are well built, lovingly cared for and carefully thought through. It is as if someone decided what they would want from a holiday and then made sure that it was there. The... more

Relaxing Holiday
Stayed last week Sept first week Oct and found the place very relaxing, very clean and tidy unlike some other places we have stayed at this time of year. Kostas, Irene and the family could not do enough to make the holiday other than relaxing. The Greek night was awesome, George is a fantastic dancer, the food that was laid on was out of this world and plenty of it. We got upgraded to one of the larger apartments on our second week with no hassle at all, again Kostas was only ot happy to help. The village this time of year is very quiet as most places are closing down for end of season. Mikes bar at the end of the village is well worth a visit. To see most of the island especially down south and in the mountains you really need to hire a car and find places you don't see going by bus plus it works out cheaper than bus fares. All in all a very friendly place with wonderfull people loooking after you. Many thanks to the family for a relaxing chill out stay.

Like part of the family
We have just arrived back from the Sunlight Studios, we had a very relaxing holiday which is what we wanted. Although the rooms were basic they were very clean (I would say try and book an upstairs room as they are a lot better than ground floor rooms). Kostas and family made us feel like we were part of their family and could not do enough for us, they would sit with us at the bar and chat and were always trying to make sure your holiday was great. The food that irene cooked was lovely home cooked Greek food which was great (you could get basic food if that is what you wanted) we ate there everyday. To sum it up we had a great time and both my wife & I both had a tear in our eyes when we left and will go back next year.

Thank you for the feedback. at the Sunlight Studios we appreciate your comments, and will share your input with the rest of the Family. Thank you again

What a shame
Well the reviews I had read said so much - it was all good! NO! So many horror stories.... The rooms.....If you complain you could get upgraded from the poor small room on the lower floor to ones on the first floor. The lower floor rooms are small - and I mean small!! No room to put your cases after you unpack and if your there for more than a week then your wont get your gear in the small wardrobe! One step from bed to bathroom...LOL Great if your wasted and need it ..LOL We spoke to one, two couples who had been upgraded for free to the second floor rooms, and one poor older couple who where charged 10Euros per day!! So the review -- The area - powers station - desolation - isolated! beach - forget it - the worst in Greece, not the problem of the owners of the hotel. The Hotel - great pool and gardens but they need to supply the customer with good lounger most where cracked and no mattresses, and please no loud music at 2 in the afternoon when people are trying to enjoy their day! Rooms - I have never been in any Greek apartment/hotel where the sheets are not changed at least once - well I have now. Not a towel or sheet changed in the week, bins not emptied or room cleaned ! As I have already said the lower rooms are small the 1ST floor are huge, when Kostas finished the 2nd floor he will have some great rooms that are real money makers. Bar - George (bad Greek - Yourgos) one day you will be OK as a DJ! Keep up the work as you will be out of the army soon! Great atmosphere but on some nights they worry that they might not get all money in so they make you pay up front, not a problem with Brits but strange in Greece. We Brits also spend a lot of money but seem to get very little back in return - the odd free drink when we supply the cabaret would be nice.... it makes us feel special..Lucas the fireman! keep putting out the fires and stay away from the British women or it may cause you some problem .....LOL Food - Irene is a good cook but like Ramsey the menu is limited. Specials are the same price as the standard menu - so NOT special! Up the hill into Theologos is a fantastic taverna, Greek and amazing food. Overall - good for relaxing except when the music is turned up when your trying to relax (sleep) during the day. Poor cleanliness of rooms. Unfair treatment of guests. Greek night - seen a lot better - if it wasn't for the older generation it would have been a flop.... The main warning - on your last day they will wait till just before lunch and then try to sting you for 25 - 30 Euros to keep your room - even though you have it booked for that night. Puts a bitter taste in your mouth......... I know all hotels have to make money but!!!!

Dear valued guests, We regret that your holiday was not to your satisfaction. We strive to enhance our costumers holiday experience and do take note of all comments. There are two categories of rrooms in the sunlight. The rooms on the groundfloor are our cheapest and are for 2 people only. The rooms on the first floor are for three people and they are rented at a hire rate.Is not always possible to upgrade costumers. There is usually a small charge for this which is normal practise within the hotel industry. If the cheapest rooms are fully booked and there is availability on the first floor we occasionally use them for 2 people I am happy to say that this year we have replaced the pool loungers and provided matresses Our rooms/studios are cleaned,leaning/towels change, and bins emptied twice weeklyon a Wednesday and Saturday in accordance, with the travel companies contracts. This is standard operating procedure for selfcatering studios. There is also a large bin across the way for costumers use, should excess of rubbish be produced We have added to our varied menu to provide even more choise of homemade dishes for our guests, which is not usual for selfcatering hotel. We operate normal worldwide accomodation reservation procedures. That is rooms are held from midday to midday.Regardless of arrival or departure times of guests it is normal for a charge to be made to keep your room after 12 noon no matter where you go. The price is clearly displayed in all rooms and public areas We take the enjoyment of our guests very seriously and strive to carter for all ages and tastes. It is important that any concerns are raised with us at the time so we can resolve them quickly.

The friendliest Greek hosts!
I have to respond to the previous comments about these apartments and the family who run them. We were visiting at the same time and our experience was totally different. We were a couple in one of the larger rooms, but we booked them and paid the difference to the holiday company. Everyone did receive free shots at night around the bar and the 'washing up' was a joke instigated by us holiday makers not Kostas and the boys. One guest received a birthday cake complete with sparklers at the barbeque night . The family receive litlle revenue from the holiday companies and have to rely on the bar and restaurant for extra takings. They take the enjoyment of the guests very seriously, and are very concerned when anything goes wrong, which is very rare. But nobody is perfect! Yes, prices have gone up but that is more to do with the euro etc. and we have eaten at the other restaurants mentioned and agree they are excellent, but the food and prices at the Sunlight compare favourably. The barbeque night is very enjoyable with Greek dancing, and the food is delicious, Irene does a special every night and her stuffed tomatoes, peppers and vine leaves are delicious. Wecertainly enjoyed their hospitality.

Dear Valued Guest...Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I am happy that the Sunlight Studios, was able to meet your expectations and offered a clean comfortable stay. Thank you again ! its nice to hear both sides of the coin and i thank you for that...hope to see you again

This is business first and foremost
I have just read some other reviews and have to agree with some and put the record straight with others who think that this place is "Excellent" it is far from it! I know all hotels have to make money but they are money grabbers! On my first day I was told not to bring a small bottle of water into the poll area as they sell water, OK not got a problem with that, but the night before I had spent over £50 in the bar! Over the years I have visited many Greek Islands and hotel/apartments/bars and one thing they do is show their appreciation to regular/good customers - this lot dont! We got one free shot and I had to wash glasses to get a free beer.... Hey I dont want it all for free but the odd free drink makes you fell good and fell welcome. Dont bother with the local beach - the pool area is nice - but please put some mattresses on the loungers Greek night - it was 8 Euros in 2008 ( I was told this buy a person who was there in 2008) and 15 Euros in 2009 - food was ok but not outstanding. Food - snacks are ok - if you want some good food walk up into the village - the walk is worth it as it will build that appetite. Dont order one portion each but share ..... the pork chops are from pigs that are out of this world!!! Overall, they are friendly but only after your money! If you are in a downstairs apartment - well its going to be the smallest room in Greece!
Management response from sunlightstudios 07 Jun 2010

Dear former guests, Thank you for your comments here at the Sunlight we take the guests point of view very seriously. It is normal hotel policy throughout the industry to only permit drinks and food purchased within an establishment to be consumed on site.We do appreciate our guests spending on our site as we are a business. Contrary to your perspective, we do and always appreciate our guest. We would never allow our guests to work formally to obtain free drinks. We have however, now fitted mattresses to our loungers. We have never charged 8 euro's for an adult to attend our greek night festivities. We have rooms of two sizes, each offer to our customers at a different rate. Again this is normal practise throughout the hotel industry.

Why not treat all customers the same!!
We have just returned from a holiday at these studios, which we booked after reading previous reviews, but how disappointed we were. We enjoyed our holiday, but as the previous writer explained, this was due to the company of other holiday makers rather than the family. We booked, as we thought an upstairs room, but on arrival we were given a downstairs studio, which was small, dingy and with no view, so enquired about moving upstairs only to be told there was nothing available, but that they would see what could be done for our second week. The next morning we were offered an upstairs studio (which suddenly became available!!!) at an EXTRA COST of 10 euros a night, as these were meant for 3 people (Yes we were that 'Elderly couple, ha! ha!) and as my wife suffers from clostrophobia, we gratefully accepted. (We were told not to tell anyone about this, as several people wanted to move upstairs and this was the only room available) On moving upstairs we found other rooms were empty. Imagine how upset we were to find out later that other people (COUPLES) who had booked rooms for 2, had been given upstairs rooms for 3 at no extra cost. Also, on the last day of our stay, as our flight was not until 3ish the following morning, we paid an extra E30 to keep our room for the day, only to find out later that other people were able to keep their rooms at no extra cost! I queried this with the eldest son, the father was not available, who couldn't explain why this had happened and no offer of a refund was made. Why aren't all customers treated the same? As we had read, Irene's cooking was good, but everything was served with frozen chips and no vegetables, also starters and main courses are served together! Due to the opening of 'All inclusive' hotels in this area, several tavernas and the only Nightclub have closed down, therefore options for eating out are limited, but Sea View, near the beach or the Taverna in Tholos village square are well worth trying. The sheets and towels, need replacing immediately, they are threadbare, not very clean and grey. One good point, the gardens and pool area clean and pretty, but some of the sunbeds certainly need replacing.
Management response from sunlightstudios 07 Jun 2010

Dear guests, We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your holiday, we take the comments made by former guests seriously. We have to record of any formal complaint from you, while you were here.It is important to raise such concerns with us during your stay so that we are able to address them. Check in and check out time are twelve o'clock noon This is normal practise throughout the industry.Prices for the retention of rooms are clearly displayed in every room and in public areas. We have two different sizes of rooms an offer to our clients, at different rates. The ground floor rooms be full,We sometimes utilise the rooms on the first floor for two persons.

dont be fooled
Just returned from a week at the sunlight studios. Dont be fooled by the friendliness of the staff , first and formost its a business and it clearly shows. There is no loyalty to customers that return year after year. The rooms on the bottom floor are very small and cramped with twin beds. ,no natural light. The upstairs apartments were in total contrast. very spacious. Luckily we were upgraded after 2 days at no extra cost but told to tell people that is cost an extra 10 euros a day. Yet they charged an elderly couple 120 euros. They complained but nothing was done. There was no bedding or towel change and i have to say the towels were grey and threadbare. No cleaner came we had to ask for a toilet roll and empty our own toilet bins. The shower did not work properly it fell off the wall , The BQ night was expensive not even one free complimentry shot . They certainly dont believe in giving anything away for free even though you spend a small fortune at the bar. People seem to rave about the cooking but please go up to the village at the top and you will find the food out of this world and much cheaper than sunlight. The pool area is lovely and set in lovely gardens , but most of the sunbeds are broken/cracked which is a shame. We had a lovely time, dancing , drinking etc but that was down to the other holiday makers not the staff . The area surrounding is very very quiet everything has shut down. The beach is shingles and its awful, nice sewage pipe though
Management response from sunlightstudios 07 Jun 2010

Dear Former guests, In reply to your comments,we are obliged to answer you and give our reply as per regulations. When you booked with the travel agent you were charged for one double/twin room. That was what you where given, after yor complain to us you were upgraded at no extra cost. (THE ROOM TERMS ARE PROMENTLY DISPLAYED IN EACH ROOM) All our rooms are cleaned Wednesday and Saturday and towels and bedding changed on this days as per our contract with the travel agents.(CHECK YOUR BROCURE)(OR INTERNET) We now have upgraded all our sunbeds with mattresses, and have all new furniture in the lounge. The food at sunlight is FRESHLY COOKED EVERY DAY(NOT FROZEN)and heated in the microwave==you only have to watch Irene daily from 7 30 am till 11 pm to appreciate this All holidaymakers help to make each others holidays The staff incourage all their clients to join in(NOT THEIR FAULT IF SOME WANT TO KEEP TO THEMSELVES) When you were here in September its near the end of the season so you can expect some places to be closed. This part of Rhodes is renowned for peace and tranquility-we are not a glorified Blackpool with sun. We hope this will change your opinion of us,and we look forward to seeing u again,as we have many clients who come back year after year.

Perfect and relaxing retreat
We've just returned from a week at the Sunlight Apartments and were very impressed. The service from Kostas, Irene and their sons was fantastic - it was like staying with family friends as nothing was too much trouble. The pool area was spacious, with plentiful sunbeds and a lovely garden area. We wanted somewhere quiet, relaxing and in easy reach of Rhodes Town (about 40 mins on the bus), and the apartments met these requirements. Irene's cooking was delicious and was better than any of the other restaurants we ate at in Tholos. Tholos itself was quite quiet, and was a good base for seeing other parts of the island. The Greek night was one of the highlights of an excellent week. A lovely holiday in clean, basic apartments - we will definitely consider revisiting!
brilliant
We have just returned from a lovely holiday. Kostas and Irerne and their three sons are amazing and wonderful hosts nothing was too much troub;le for them. Irenes cooking was wonderful and they are really generous and gave us appertives free desserts and eveb melon when we were aroubd the pool. The Greek night was the best ever really good fun and enjoyed by everyone. The pool and gardens are really good and relaxing. The shops and bars are five minutes walk away but we didnt find anywhere which comparede to the cuisine on offer. One night they even took us to a local festival and tried to get us to eat more food which they insisted on paying for. The appartments downstairs are small but clean and adequate. The ones upstairs are spacious and when we return we will try to get one there. We went on the bus to Rhodes and a few other resorts including a pretty beach resort called Kameros. George the youngest son was really nice as were the older brothers. If you want a relaxing holiday in pleasent surroundings with excellent food and to be spoilt then I would thoroughly recommend this setting Sue and Brian Swansea South Wales
