Beautiful hotel, well furbished, comfort and luxury well combined, staff were friendly, rooms kept clean (they even did my washing up), I had a fantastic room except for the bed being two singles pushed together. The ski lifts were only a couple hundred meters away, I... more

Loved Soldeu, The Himalaia was good but not really 4*
from donnalovescheese
Having just returned from a weeks stay in Soldeu I can highly recomend the resort and will probably return in the future. The Himalaia was nicely located in the centre of the resort about a 5 minute walk up a gentle slope to the gondola. We were on the fifth floor so had very few problems with noise although we were woken one night by the music from Fat Alberts and understand that guests on lower floors at the back of the hotel had more problems with this. The standard of the room was average, nothing spectacular for a 4* hotel and to be honest not worth paying the extra for the higher star rating. As Soldeu is so small, most hotels are located well for the gondola and I may be tempted in future to pay less and stay somewhere cheaper. The breakfast buffet was fine: toast, cold meats, cheese, yogurt, fruit and omelettes cooked to order. The dinner buffet was pretty awful but then so was the standard of food in all other hotels (according to others) and the food in the restaurants around Soldeu was not much better. Avoid the Chinese, Indian and La Fontanella at all costs. Fat Alberts was ok for food and the traditional English pub food in The Villager was ok too. For lunch try Sol y Negre or the Bruxelles. Overall, we had an excellent holiday as Soldeu has a great variety of pistes and some excellent off piste. The Apres Ski is small but friendly.
Nice hotel, shame about the food and thieves!
from bubas99
Stayed in the himalaia for a week. Lovely large rooms, very warm and comfortable. The hotel is a minutes walk to cable car and above some pubs so an ideal location. Shame the food for dinner is very poor, so many different dishes but nothing you can make a proper meal from. Chips come with everything and a lot of it is slop. Puddings are nice though. Lastly, we had boards in the lockers in the basement. Thieves came in and snapped off the inadequate padlocks and nicked a load of equipment. Disappointed to find out this had happened in the weeks previous and we were not warned. Management didn't really care, nor did the rep [panarama / airtours] and we had to get the bus to Pas to report it to the police. Overall a disappointing response to something that could have been avoided. We kept our remaining equipment in the room with no trouble and would have done from that start had we known.
Fantasic Himalaia

Having stayed at the Himalaia over Feb half term, I can agree with some of the past reviews. Our whole holiday was fantastic. The hotel was nicely decorated, we booked a studio and a double and got upgraded to 2 studios. They were really spacious, clean rooms with a kitchenette and can sleep 3 if needed. The food was buffet style. Breakfast was great with loads of choice. Cereals, pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurts, breads, usual bacon, sausage type foods and eggs cooked which ever way you wanted them.....what else would you need.? Dinner was also fine....buffet food again but plenty of choice, you end up having a very strange combinations of foods. The only disappointment on some days were the spa facilities they were not very hot and the steam room was only on, on one day. I would highly recommend doing 3 hours at the SportWellness Spa up the top of town 33 euros with fab views of the slopes and gorgeous relaxing facilities (including outdoor terrace tub) For eating out definately the Sol i Neu next to the gondola for lunch, Les Bruxelles for dinner and although the service was awful at Fat Alberts restaurant the food was gorgeous...when it finally arrived. Apres ski I would recommend The Aspen Bar for live music (The Pogo's) table football and pool. All in all the Sport hotel and Sport Village are very nice but not worth paying the extra £200 or so quid. Only a short walk to the gondola, good ski storage and very friendly staff. Visit Andorra La Vella one night for shopping. Bus down or taxi is only 20 euros.I would definately go back to the Himalaia again, we had a brilliant holiday.
Friendly staff, average food
from Traveller171175
The good bits - excellent location, comfortable rooms, and, best of all, superb staff who couldn't have been more welcoming. On the down side I thought the food, particularly the breakfast, was pretty mediocre for a supposed 4 star hotel. We had no hot water for much of our stay, and only around a third of the channels on the TV worked - no good if you get injured skiing. Nevertheless, a good base in Soldeu and good value for money.
great hotel
from funtraveller8
I have just returned from andorra having stayed at the himalaia hotel soldeau. The hotel is excellent there were six in our party staying in two rooms which were spacious clean and if anything too warm. Having read the reviews of this hotel on this site I was a bit wary of the food as previous holiday makers seem to think the food was not of a very good standard. I have to say the food was excellent a great variety for breakfast a very wide selection of fruits yogarts cereals eggs cooked in every manner possible the usual sausages and rashers various breads juices and the evening meal was different every day with a wide variety of salads vegetables all kinds of meat chicken and fish and the desserts were to die for. The staff were friendly and efficient and we were very well looked after. The hotel is very central and I would have know hesitation in recemmending this hotel to anyone.
Brilliant Value for money, central loaction, great staff, spa facilities dubious

Just returned from a week's skiing in Soldeu - didn't actually get over to Pas de la Casa but am told by all that Soldeu is infintely nicer and less hectic. The hotel has been really well rennovated, we were upgraded from a studio to a suite on the 4th floor, really spacious, lovely comfy sofas. Food on the whole was superb, excellent choice, very fresh and we suceeded in stuffing ourselves senseless every night! The staff were really friendly and were quick to resolve the issue of a missing double bed - we had 2 singles to start (of differening heights - interesting!) The hotel is bang in the middle of the small town and about 5 mins casual walk in ski boots from locker room to gondola (and hardly any queueing!) - we got a great deal on the teletext website on so this hotel was excellent for the money we paid. However the spa was very dissappointing, only one jacuzzi worked properly, steam room wasn't working but sauana seemed to be ok - make sure you visit the caldea spa in the main city or i've heard that the new spa complex at the sport hotel ( a stone's throw away) is also superb. Ski-ing in Soldeu was excellent, great choice of slopes for beginners and improving intermediates and brilliant sunshine while we were there - go and enjoy! - make sure you visit Fat Alberts for a good night out.
Great Hotel, suspect food
from Looseal
The decoration and amenities that this hotel have are great as is the location. We have stayed there 3 times and it is reliably good. However the one thing that we found disappointing is the food. Breakfast is good but the buffet dinner included on the package holidays is mediocre and for vegetatians the choice is very poor.
lovely hotel for those on a budget
from abbymorgan
i found the himalya a good hotel we were lucky to have a free upgrade to a suite which was nice- a fridge to keep all that lovely wine in - i recommend the 3 towers rose! i feel the himalya is a good hotel for the the money the hotels sport and sport village look lovely but are alot more expensive- as a student who saves all year to go skiing i felt this hotel showed better value for money! The food was lovely a real mixture with meat and fish cokked to order in the buffet, i went with 4 fussy lads and they all found plenty to eat! there may be wait for a table at peak times but this just goes with the relaxed attitude of the place - you are on holiday after all! our room looked onto fat albert ( which i recommend by the way) and wasn't disturb all week! i would return to the himalya but unfortunaly it was fully booked for the week i wanted this year so i'm staying at the hotel soldeu. other recommenations for soldeu- get a bus to andorra la vella and go to the caldea spa there its about £20 but worth every penny! it relaxes tired muscles and sat in a hot tub looking out at snow capped monutains is unreal! Bolagnaise pannii at hotel brussels at lunch time - out of this world!!
Superb Soldeu
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have recently stayed at the Himalaiain Soldeu and we can echo your reviewers comments, the staff were excellent and carried out any request cheerfully and promptly, again Diago ( along with all the other staff ) was a good advert for customer service, efficient ,helpful and always in good humour. the rooms were very good but we should also say that beware of ground floor rooms at the rear of the hotel if you are a light sleeper or not a party animal as the noise from' FAT ALBERTS' club and resturant goes on till late or early dependant on your outlook' but Fat Alberts is superb apres ski and the food in the resturant really special and good value with attentive staff, the Village pub is also good apres ski with entertainment every night. We also purchased our boots from Ludo at Pic Negre, again the cheapest we found, the customer service was excellent going to extremes to make sure we got the correct boots and fittings. We have also booked to return with Inghams next year to stay at The Sports Village Hotel ,the food , facilities and situation look to be very good, the whole resort is geared for ease of access to the slopes, the cafe at the nursery area is well used for the purchase of 'le Bombe'( Large quantity of brandy in hot chocolate ) The snow ,skiing made a good holiday superb. Having stayed last year in Pas de la Casa Himalalia,Soldeu is clearly better ,more relaxed and not half as manic on the slopes, the gondola is an innovation, all in all we thoroughly recommend Soldeu for beginners and those who do not want the bind of catching transport to the slopes or carrying ski,s to and from the hotel as there is ample ski lockers avliable at the lifts for a minimal fee.
Value for Money
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from a lovely week's skiing in Andorra. went with Inghams and stayed at the Hotel Himalaia, in Soldeu. Best snow in 10 years and when the sun shone it was glorious. The hotel represented good value for money. Food was varied and improved as the week progressed. Room was clean and well serviced and the Spanish staff were very helpful (particularly, Diago in the restauarant). Only the English staff were somewhat miserable! Only downside is that all the hotels are on the main road and we were woken at 4am for 5 out of 6 nights by noisy drunkards leaving the various clubs and pubs. if you stay there, do ask for a room facing the back of the hotel, which will be quieter. Also be aware that ski school is at the top of the gondola so you need to be at the bottom of the gondola at circa 7.45am on the Monday you arrive to arrange lessons. Pic Negre is best for ski hire and the Manager, Ludo, is extremely friendly and helpful. Cheapest place I have come across to buy boots. We will definately return next year but will pay more to stay at the Sport Village. Food looked better, it overlooked the pistes and is above the main Gondola. Have fun! Andrew
