Great hotel, so clean it sparkles,...

Great hotel, so clean it sparkles, food fine we all found something nice at every meal....however, I never, ever thought I would be ashamed to be British, but here I was, there were a few nice families but in the main they were benefits scroungers who had just come for the free booze and the tobacco run! Even the kids club reps didn't believe our children were English for the first few days because they were well behaved and actually ate with knives and forks!! Tossa itself was beautiful, lovely unspoilt beaches and no McDonalds in sight! Such a shame for a family hotel to be spoilt by it's Britsh clients.
I would definitely return to Tossa but not to that hotel; I feel very sorry that the hotel which has every amenity a family could wish for and all the staff are so helpful is so ruined by the few who have no control over their children or themselves. The children's entertainers are great and built up a great rapport with our children...they have e-mailed us today to say how much they missed having them there! Our youngest child got a black eye from another child throwing a pool ball at her and the speed with which they dealt with getting ice etc was absolutely fantastic....so keep up the good work but please try to eliminate the really rough element!!

hi, for all of you that are reading...

May 2008, Mrs N Richards

hi, for all of you that are reading the negative comments, dont panic! I read all of the reviews before I went, and I was very sceptical, as i travelled with two children one aged four and one aged ten months. However all in all we had a nice holiday, the staff were very friendly, and always happy to help. The rooms were cleaned every day without fail. The food was fine, yes their was a choice of chips every day, but this was a choice, their were other options available. The only problem we did encounter was that the barman did not speak english and as i was seeing to my daughter he put vodka in my daughters coke, so do be cautious.
However all in all a good hotel. I did feel sorry for the people staying in the hotel opposite (the four star sister hotel? tossa centre hotel?) they had to come and eat in our three star hotel and had no evening entertainment at all (clearly not four star at all!)
PLEASE do not worry you will have a good time!
PS be cautious people travelling with Ryanair, we got charged £200 altogether for our luggage! read your luggage allowance very carefully.

May 2008, Mr W Troch

My partner and I booked this one week all inclusive holiday just anywhere. We had both been working long and hard and needed a week away from it all. We did not care where it was, as long as it was all inclusive.
Once we knew where we were going, we read up on it and were not impressed with the overall review of this place. However, all our doubts and worries washed away as soon as we arrived. The reception people could not be friendlier, all staff during the rest of the week were superb. The hotel is clean, the people are friendly, the drinks are good, there are some fantastic restaurants around, the food in the hotel is brilliant. This is a nine out of ten resort. I would have said ten out of ten, but there were too many children, and I hate them.

We arrived nervously at the Tossa...

May 2008, Miss S.J Herod

We arrived nervously at the Tossa Beach after readin some terrible reviews for a 7night all inclusive stay in april 2008. Firstly i must say that the staff were brilliant, friendlly an polite... nothin was too much trouble, we were shown to a very clean, spacoius an suitable first floor room. The food was fine a typical buffet style breakfast, dinner an tea with something for most tastes, although we did hear some people moan....but then again thats the british for you!!!!! all i can say is we had no problems with the food or service the staff work long hours for little money yet were pleasant an polite at all times....even though we often heard them gettin an earful of abuse of other holiday makers!!! shame on you!!!!
The entertainment was not wonderful but we were assured by the manager that this was due to a new Annimation Team takin over in mid may, the kids club was good though an my daughetr happily played in there some days doin activities with the rep kayleigh. The pool area is small but very clean however due to the nature of the buildin the water itself does not get much sun hence the pool bein VERY COLD!!!
Tossa itself is a lovely place with nice shops an bars definately worth a visit.
We enjoyed our stay an would visit the hotel again the only thing that spoilt it was the few British lager louts that got on the all inclusive drink an drunk till they were out of their mind seemingly forgettin there was young families an people tryin to holiday in peace!!!! u know who you are!!!!
Thanks to you all at Tossa Beach keep up the good work an dont let the moanin holiday makers grind you down....Adios Amigos!!!!!! xxxxxxxx

Needing a 3-day winter break &...
4 / 10
Mar 2008, Mr C Neal

Needing a 3-day winter break & Spanish ciggie top-up (Sovereign at €24 or Superkings at €30) went via our local airport/Ryanair/Gerona cos it was cheap & convenient.
For an attractive, compact, interesting & historic laid-back resort handy to Gerona airport, Tossa de Mar is way way better than overcrowded Lloret or boring featureless modern Rosas. Not so sure about parking in high summer tho - it was difficult enough in March!
We chose Tossa Beach cos it was cheap. And you get what you pay for. It was rather tired and in need of a spruce-up, esp the bare furniture in public areas like the bar. Staff were fine. Room was very basic (no toiletries, tea-making, etc), but clean, adequate and a reasonable size, with balcony. And ITV on the box. Small pool & terrace, with little sun - cant be much fun in summer.
Worst thing about the hotel was the food. As others have commented, you can follow your nose to find the dining room. The selection was basic and to a price (streaky bacon for instance) tho again, you get what you pay for. But what a waste that everything seems to be prepared & laid out in one hit - so half an hour later it looks awful and much is inedible. We had planned to eat out anyway, and made up for mainly passing on the food by knocking back quite a lot from the bar ! Both bars, and the pool area, were basic "workingmens club", but the company (all British, mainly northerners) made up for it.
Location of the hotel is excellent, a 2-minute walk to the beach and old town.
"All-inclusive" makes this a cheap base - if readies are a problem, then this is as good value as you're likely to get. But if you can afford better, spend more & choose somewhere better than this budget hotel

I booked this holiday for me and two...
8 / 10
Mar 2008, Miss C Perry

I booked this holiday for me and two others a week before we were due to leave and I couldn't have been happier with our choice!
I got slightly worried about the food after reading other reviews, but i must say the food is fine. I was quite satisfied with it and the only people who would moan are the very fussy ones, in which case you shouldn't go all inclusive as its what you should expect.
The room was lovely and spacious. There is a jacuzzi and 2 pools which were cold but it was march, but they would be good in the summer.
Tossa itself is a delightful place. Plenty of restaurants and shops and the castle has spectacular views.
The only thing i can grumble about is the excursions. They were fairly priced, but we booked to go on a sports and shopping trip to barcelona. We waited nearly 2 hours for the bus to show up giving them the benefit of the doubt. We gave up and returned to the hotel. The staff were more than happy to give us our money back. This happened to another couple who had booked a different excurion with the same company later in the week.
We decided to make out own way to bacelona. This way it took half the time to get there and it was cheaper. We did struggle when we got there though as we didn't know where to go, but i would recommend the trip as its a shame to miss the experience being so close to a cultured city.
I am definatly going back again but when its a bit busier to experince tossa at its best.

My friend and I wanted a cheap and...

Mar 2008, Miss Emma Hollingworth

My friend and I wanted a cheap and cheerful week away in the sun, we found Tossa Center on teletext holidays and it seemed to fit the bill. I can honestly say that this was one of the best holidays I have ever had. If you are wanting a magluf/ibiza kind of holiday this is not the one for you. However, the resort is lively the beach is really nice and the castle is beatiful, partifularly at night. Although don't walk up the hill on a full stomach!
The hotel itself is is modern and pleasant. The rooms have everything you need and was more than comfortable. Everything was clean and cleaned regularly. I had no problems what so ever. The reception staff were lovely and incredibly helpful, sadly however the bar staff were not! As seems to be the case with many all inclusive holidays the bar staff are not blessed with a sunny disposition and were not in a hurry to provide you with your drink.
The pool is very very small and as such, gets crowded very quickly, however the beach is close by and much prettier!
The food is served at Tossa beach which is over the road and is not the greatest. There was always something to eat but it was far from top quality grub.
Despite the negatives I would rcommend this to anyone.

This is a cheap and cheerful hotel in...
8 / 10
Feb 2008, Miss C Cross

This is a cheap and cheerful hotel in a great location for the resort. we paid £120pp for a 3 night break with transfers after being let down with a uk holiday that would have cost us a hell of a lot more!
The rooms are basic but clean and had everything we needed considering it was really just a base for our break. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help.
the hotel across the road (tossa centre) is a 4 star which looked really nice but the people staying there said that they used all the facilities at our hotel and unless the upgrade was free they would have rather saved the money and stayed in the tossa beach.
the food was what i expected - mostly chips, chicken, bread, salads and veg. but it was all fine and we certainly got our moneys worth with the all inclusive!
If you want a cheap and cheerful break away in a busy resort with plenty to do, even out of season then this is a great option.
I was advised when i booked the holiday of what to expect and they were spot on! I had a great time - thank you sun4u!

I'm sorry if you are reading this...
2 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr W Johnson

I'm sorry if you are reading this about to fly to Tossa De Mar, but please read on as although the hotel was not great I can definitely assure you that the location of Tossa De Mar town is fantastic.
We flew with Ryanair (as a package with transfers and all-inclusive basis) with another couple for a 2007/2008 new year celebration. Ryanair check-in was spoiled by being told to go to their info desk to check that we were British registered people as instructed on their website but we were not told this by our Tour operator so watch out for it as we would be fined if we did not do this again. Everyone it seemed had to do this on our flight, so it was not just us! The lady was outright rude, abrupt and seemed to be going out of her way to upset everyone as it was early morning for her it seems! She set the tone nicely for the boarding experience which (if you were on our flight I trust you will agree) was an angry crowd fighting for queue places.
We arrived in Spain and a large coach was ready outside which drove us to Tossa De Mar on a very pleasant mountain road to the top of a back street just off the main road where we were dropped off as the coach was too large to go to Tossa Beach Hotel street around 50 metres walk further down.
The reception is pleasant, with Internet terminals (chargeable). The gentleman on check-in was friendly. It was around 11am and our rooms were not ready until 1 so we were told to go to the bar until then. The bar area was basic, old looking with plastic chairs and tables, a disco dance floor area, 2 pool tables as well as a collection of ancient arcade machines (Scud Race etc...) which we were to discover were mostly broken, for 2 people to play on! We were issued with plastic blue arms bands to access our 'all-inclusive' benefits - not so all-inclusive. All drinks we asked for were all-inclusive until 12am, some food is (burgers, chips etc..) but Pizzas etc are charged extra at around 6 euros and not very nice/tasteless.
At 1pm, we were given our adjacent rooms on the 3rd floor. The first thing that hits you is the carpet leading up the stairs, which is old, looked dirty, was ripped, tatty and badly faded. Our room was large, with 2 double beds and a single. There is a small 14" tv with ITV1 and Eurosport as well as other foreign/local stations. The floor was dirty though, as was the sheets and when I opened the bathroom door I was met by an infestation of ants. Our friends did too albeit on a smaller level.
I went to reception to complain about our Ant problem, no reaction - It was as if he knew this issue. The man radioed someone and told me to wait there. He took my original ant-infested room key off me and literally held it for a few seconds as another English couple arrived to check-in, whereby he just passed them this room key (still wtih my name on the card(!) and said that their room was ready for them! (presumably Ants are not a problem for them but I did not see them again to ask if they stayed).
I was given another room around 15 minutes later, which had no ants at that time, and a nicer view. On one side it seems is nicer views than the other. Rooms are decently sized, but basic cleanliness (we believe essential if nothing else) was not present. Bins not emptied, sweet wrappers under the beds, ants (which came back after the 1st day), bathrooms, large enough, but old looking, clean towels, no soap or shampoo, and a thermostat with a mind of its own!
There is a bar, an outside pool area (looked fine) and a restaurant. We decided to go and get some food at the latter. It is a large room, with a central self-service style buffet, packed with food. Most cooked and uncooked foods looked quite good and the bread was fresh as well as welcomed. We then explored and can say that Tossa De Mar is lovely... in fact excellent. We are aged between 21-31 and although off-season, there's enough to do for the 3 days/4 nights we stayed (climbing rocks, eating out and viewing the excellent (as well as free) Castle on walks.
Back to the hotel for the evening, and DJ Chris (a UK chap) was playing UK chart music, disco lights and crowds of people drinking, playing cards and generally seemed to be having a good time etc.
The drinks we had are summarised as follows...
Beer - watered down, local 'Amstel' (nice here in UK) not there.
Spirits - Poured so strongly as to be virtually undrinkable - Vodka and Coke = 85% vodka, the rest Coke! Make sure you say stop! They won't easily by the way! The bar staff were nice people, fun, cheeky if a little 'ladish' with the girls, such as the place became at night.
Soft drinks were all fine, fanta orange, pepsi and tea/coffee all served as you wish until 12am no problems there.
Second day, ants back again in the bed this time, which is not very nice. The restaurant bread had turned stale and therefore inedible and much the same self-service chips, sausages and salad etc... looked tired/re-heated. Desserts seemed to be themed around as many 'jellys' as possible, with Coca-cola flavour (we decided as probably was as it was brown!) was untouched without surprise!
New Years Eve was nicer, with traditional grapes, nice guests in the spirit (a top Scottish family shared with us their own wee-drams, thank you!) and staff being as nice as possible. We ate out before for the food reasons above.
Next day, on the stairs, a cup of orange clearly visible had been there for 3 days, and then I kicked it over on the final morning soaking my shoe which although funny now, did nothing for the lift we were about to take. Our final memory of Tossa Beach Hotel was holding our breath in the lift on the way down to reception to check-out which was filled with a foul-smelling stench of fish and sewerage similar to a dirty/empty wheelie-bin in the summer... why was this not cleaned out? Totally Disgusting.
Local food places though were visited and we were glad as the were excellent. We especially rated 'El Teller' with the deserved 'Michellin food guide winner' award... It was an expensive meal relative to the rest of the local places (200 Euros for 4 of us with a bottle of Bollinger Champagne to celebrate which was 42 Euros of the 200) so although higher priced, the food was first class and really superb - Marine food worth a look if you've some Euros to use up in style on the last day!
Across the road is Tossa Central (sister to this hotel). It's more highly rated with 4 stars and looks a lot nicer. This made us wish we'd read reviews before booking. Go to Tossa De Mar as it's as lovely a place as everyone says (even in sunny/cold Winter) but based on our experience, we cannot endorse the Tossa Beach Hotel, as for us it spoiled an otherwise excellent new year Holiday.

We have just come back from a 5 day...
8 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs C  Bell

We have just come back from a 5 day break with the children. It was half term and full of families. Although not the flashest hotel we have been to, we had a reasonably sized family room with a balcony, with a view onto a gravel path the staff used. The beach is no more than a five minute walk away, as is the centre of Tossa. The hotel needs re-furbishment, its sister hotel across the street, Tossa Center looked quite okay.
The food was quite bland and by the third day we decided to ignore the fact that we had paid for all-inclusive and ate at some of the delightful restaurants in Tossa. May I recommend Castell Vell, 16.75 euro for a 3 course meal (mainly traditional Mediterranean) including bread and table wine.
If you decide to go all-inclusive, snacks are available from mid-morning to lunchtime then from 2.30pm until around 6.30 pm. Snacks are toasted cheese and ham sandwiches, chips and burgers. The bar serves local spirits and Amstell lager is on draft. There is a coffee machine for latte/ cappuccino.
There are TV's in the bedrooms-the English speaking channels were Eurosport and ITV1.
There is a kids club in the basement, but wasn't open when we were there. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer the cost was 3 and 2 euro. I thought that was quite a good rate. This area was clean and the machines very modern. This could help you to keep your packing lighter! I believe irons were available to hire.
There are 3 internet connection points with webcams in the lobby. The cost was 1 euro for 6 minutes. There is a post box there, although stamps could not be purchased at the hotel.
We didn't use the pool; it was very busy at the poolside tables and chairs, mostly with smokers as this was not permitted inside at the bar.
The hotel is situated on a narrow road and although we were dropped off outside the hotel, we were not told by resorthoppa.com that we had to go to the main road behind to get our transfer. We frantically had to get a cab to Girona airport, so please don't get caught out there!
For me the greatest thing were the staff. They were very friendly and genuine. My four year old son needed first aid (purely an accident) and the attention he was given was very touching. The staff were genuinely concerned and supportive. One member of staff even checked he was comfortable several hours later.
I would recommend this hotel for a quick break and if you are on a budget. Don't go here if you are paying for what is a relatively cheap holiday and expecting lobster thermador and Cristal champagne.
