Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Andorra. Taxi fares to Soldeu bars can be a little erratic, but the walk is only a brisk 20 minutes. Shuttle service to gondola was very reliable and punctual. Leisure facilities exceeded expectations and the pool and... more

The Euro Esqui is a comfortable warm hotel with its own spa. Its rooms are a reasonable size with modern furnishings. It stands a little on its own somewhere between Soldeau and El Tarter but one of its plus points is that has its own transport to the main gondola in El... more

Excellent Hotel
Just arrived back having spent a week at this hotel end of Feb beginning of March. Having read previous reviews I went with an open mind having said that I can't fault it at all. The staff were helpfull and friendly and the majority spoke very good English. (one of our party had to leave a day early due to a death in the family, the staff could not be more helpfull by organising the Novatel bus to pick him up from the hotel and take him down to Barcelone, normally this bus has to be picked up at Andorra La Vella) I agree with the last post and the staff in the Ski Hire Shop situated in the hotel were fantastic, great advice and quality of kit. As there were ten of us in our party they were willing to give us 15% off the price which meant a few more euros for the bar! The hotel shuttle bus down to El Tarter was great. We tended to head for the slopes at around 10am after all the early birds had gone so we never had to wait more that 15mins! Drivers didn't speak much but a bit of music to get your fired up for the slopes was just the ticket but as already mentioned the drive lasts 3mins max. Food was good - good selection for all tastes and credit has to be given that they constantly replenished the buffet even when something wasn't even empty. The restaurant staff worked their socks off. Rooms were the best I have stayed in, in a ski resort. Clean and modern with sat t.v. which had BBC News, CNN and EuroSport. Could have done with a tea making machine. Handy tip - if you can't be bothered to head up to Soldeu our down to El Tarter for a apres ski drink and don't want to use the hotel bar walk up the hill for about 200yards past the paradore hotel and there is a french bar with big barrels as tables inside. Fantastic red wine (large glass) and beer (large) which is so cheap €1.50 each. The home made pizza's are to die for. Keep it to yourselves. If you choose this hotel you will be guaranteed to have a great time.
Good review
I stayed in the EuroSki (Euro Esqui)late Feb 06. Read mixed reviews. Was a bit nervous on arrival. However we were met by friendly staff who were more than helpful. We immediately went downstairs to get fitted out with skis boots, etc. Staff there were excellent. The kit we were issued with was second to none. Brand new boots and ski's with good edges. Good advise as well. Hotel supplies ski and boot lockers to put your kit in. Excellent. Next on the to do list was to have some food. Restaurant gives a good variety of food that is tasty however it is served as a buffet and unless your lucky enough to have the food as soon as it is brought out it is usually warm, not hot. Saying that after a days skiing your hungry enough to eat anything. Rooms were very comfortable. Showers are quite powerful but if you shower after 6pm it's likely to be cold as all the residents come back from the slopes and shower. Cant blame the hotel i suppose but be warned. The minibus to the slopes run every 5 minutes or so. Can't moan about it except on the the first morning skiing when everyone arrives at the same time and you will have a wait maybe an hour or two. Get to it early if you can as if you are late to book your lesson time it will be in the afternoon. Over all a good stay. Would definately go back again. Especially for the guys in the ski shop who were brilliant.Sound advise and exceptionally helpful.
Fantastic Hotel
This hotel was excellent. I feel the bad review given earlier is completely unjustified, and that this person must hold some kind of grudge. We arrived at the hotel a day late due to bad weather which blocked the main road into Andorra. However when we did arrive, both our rep and the hotel staff were very friendly and very accommodating. I saw several members of the reception and bar staff throughout the week, and they were all very polite and spoke good English. Some of the waiters and cleaners could not speak English, but this is to be expected when you are in a foreign country. When we arrived, we had already missed breakfast, so our first meal in the hotel was the evening buffet. I was not impressed with this on the first night, as there seemed to be very little to offer, and most of the food could have been warmer. However this must have been a one off, as the rest of the week was very good. A good selection of food that would please kids as well as adults, and this food was constantly replaced right up until the buffet closed at 10pm. Breakfast was also very good. I wide range of hot food (Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Beans, Mushrooms, ect...) and also fresh fruit, cereal and yogurt. The breakfast finished at 10:30, so there was no need to be up really early after a hard days skiing before. The bar offered a good selection of drinks and stayed open till late. We paid around 8 euros for 3 pints of San Miguel, which was cheaper than the pubs in Soldeu and El Tarter (around 10 euros in the pubs). The room was of a high standard, and was very comfortable. The towels were changed everyday, and we never had any trouble with the cleaners ignoring the do not disturb signs. We had a TV in the room, but unfortunately the only two English channels were BBC World and CNN. The hotel transport to the slopes was regular (about every 10 minutes), however the drivers tend to crank up the volume on the radio and do drive a little too fast for my liking, but it is only a 2 min drive to the slopes at El Tarter. There is also a free bus that takes you up to Soldeu in the evenings. This runs every hour. If you want to get a taxi into Soldeu, it will cost around 6 euros (not sure why the other review said 17 to 40 euros, perhaps he got a taxi to Timbuktu instead). However it is only a short walk into town. Soldeu is around 20mins walk, and El Tarter is around 15 minutes walk. If you are walking into Soldeu, there is a short cut over the bridge (just past the esso garage), which will take you over the river and into a residential area on the edge of Soldeu. This will take 5 minutes off your walk. The walk into El Tarter is a little dodgy, because there is no footpath and there is also a steep embankment down the side of the road, so I would recommend a taxi into El Tarter. The night life in Soldeu is good. There are plenty of bars which stay open till the early hours if you can handle that after a days skiing. If you want to watch the football, I would recommend Aspen, as it has about 5 big screens. The skiing in Soldeu and El Tarter is brilliant. There are plenty of good blue runs for both beginners and intermediates. The blue run that goes across the top of the mountain over to Canillo is really good if you are a beginner looking to progress on to the next level. There are also a lot of reds and some blacks, for the more experienced skier. The food on the slopes is expensive, but not to bad. We had most of our lunches in a pub called the Villager, which is just at the bottom of the cable car in Soldeu. This was good food and good value.
Outstanding Hotel
We stayed at this hotel in mid-January 2006 and like the last reviewer have been promted to write this review as our experience of this hotel could not have been more different. The whole hotel was spotless at all times, the rooms are large well funished and very warm. The bar and lounge areas are spacious comfortable and we found the staff to be friendly and effecient. Although we dont speak any spanish we had no problems in ordering either drinks or food. The prices in the hotel were slightly higher than some of the bars in Soldeu but certainly not all of them. The ski hire shop in the hotel was also excellent in that it was never crowded and the staff spoke english and were friendly chatty and knowledgeable. The pool area is a good size and was never particularly crowded even at peak times. The food in the restaurant was always plentiful with lots of choice (although I do agree it could have been a bit hotter at times) and dinner was served until 10.30pm. The free ski bus (gelsski) up to Soldeu turned up on time every morning for a week and didnt crash once! The skiing in soldeu is fantastic for beginners and intermediates alike. Private lessons are very reasonable and all the ski instructors speak english. The nightlife in Soldeu (which is a 3 - 4 minute bus ride away)is fun and Fat Alberts certainly deserves a mention. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel so much that we are going back again in March.
You get what you pay for.......
I wanted to write this after reading another review - I think I stayed at a different hotel. We stay at the end of January 2006 and loved the place. The hotel is spotless, the rooms were modern, warm and a good size. The staff are Spanish, why should they speak English, but the reception desk staff did. We were always treated as we treated them. I spend a lot of time in English hotels, and am not always treated as well. It would seem most drivers in Andorra can only drive with music blarring and footdown, but we were very grateful for the constant FREE 2 minibus service to and from the slopes. We had five different drivers over the week, some better than others. The pool, jacuzzi, suana & steam room were FREE as was the gym, but that didn't get used a lot! The food was good and varied, but could have been hotter. The bar was open until 1am, a bottle of alchopop was 4 Euro in the hotel, 5 in the bars in Soldeau. There was a FREE bus running between resorts regularly and Taxis were not too expensive. We are already looking at returning again next year.
Very overrated
I got the impression from previous reviews about this hotel that it was a gem for all reasons. How wrong we were. We (2 couples) stayed for a week when it was booked out in the 2nd week in January. It is nice well decorated hotel but that is practically it. First impression from the night porter when we arrived was not good. His suit jacket was twice the size of him (not exaggerating)and seemed a little bit stoned. It members of staff was very much the same. Very unprofessional looking. Waitor and bar staff were totally ignorant with little english. No please, thank you, your welcome ,no smile and while they are serving any english speaking people they would laugh with other spanish people about you while serving you. I asked for the same again and got a San Miguel! The lady next to me asked for 4 Tia Marias and instead got 4 cups of tea and 4 glasses of marie!! The Buffet had very little to offer compared to other hotel buffets, very poor. The staff took my partners plate three times while he still was not finished and after telling them each time he was not finished. They took it away the fourth time and we just gave up then. They close the bar when they feel like it and when pointed out to them its still nearly an hour and a half from closing time they say they dont have any drink in the bar for e.g vodka, water, beer. The nightclub is a joke...an empty room with music. Its always empty. Drinks are very expensive compared to everywhere else.A Tesco £1 frozen pizza cost €9 after being heated at the bar. Cleaners ignore the do not disturb signs and barge in anyway. Our room was over the bar and had to listen to barrels being dragged in and out all through the night. To ring from the hotel can only be done from your room at a minimum cost of €20 euro which lasts approx. 5-7 seven minutes. The hotel transport is a joke. Pure nut case of drivers. We crashed twice. My friend and me were in the front seat of a replacement bus (already slighlty damaged) for a bus that was crashed just earlier in the day. The driver with blaring music drove into a hotel car which was a replacement for another bus which was crashed. The car was at a yield sign and with a metre between us our driver who was stopped floored it and drove straight into the back of the car on purpose. We both banged our heads off the windscreen and my friend drove her knee through the dash getting her only injury from the skiing holiday. Other poeple in the back got injured also.Got no apologies. We hit of another car also. They drive over the speed limit at both sides of the road in very bad conditions-what would you expect. The drivers argue with each other over each others speed even. We decided to get a taxi to Soldeu which is a way up the hill and closest place to go out at night. You cant walk it especially at night with those sort of drivers on the road.Reception said the whole place has only 6 or 7 taxis between them and to order one could mean waiting 30 mins - 1 hour at €17 to €40 charge for a 7 min journey. We got a bus up the road(which could turn up at any time of the day)instead up to Soldeu. Guess what? The bus driver crashed into a truck whilst trying to ring somebody on his mobile going around a 90 degree bend covered in ice. Do not try the restaurant Parador Canaro next to the hotel either. It was my and everybody in my groups worst expierence of food and staff in our lives. Our undersized supposedly WELL DONE steaks burst open with blood all over the place when we put our knives into them.It was also freezing cold.It was without a doubt leftovers from a previous dinner.Ignorant and useless staff also.We left laughing if whether we were going to get killed from food poisoning or on the road, nevermind skiing. One thing however is that the skiing is brilliant even though a slightly cold plate of food on the mountain may set you back a very expensive €20. Soldeu has very good restaurants and brilliant night life. Fat Alberts is very very good. We had no problems, however some other friends said they waited an hour to be served one night (just very busy perhaps). I would love to go back to Andorra, but the next time I would stay in the centre of Soldeu where I would have no transport worries and less food poisoning worries (They have no health inspectors). P.S Some of the people in this hotel moved out during the week. Says alot.
Brilliant New Years Eve
We spent a week at Euro Esqui over new year 2005/2006 and had a fantastic time. It wasn't our first choice of hotel as it wasn't in the centre of El Tartar or Soldeu but that is the only draw back I can really think of. The room was clean and big - the bathroom was massive! The food was excellent every day with a buffet for both breakfast and evening meal which had enough choice for everyone to find something they liked. The New Year's Eve gala meal was impressive - unlimited prawns, lobster, smoked salmon etc. That was then followed by a FREE bar where the bar staff were more than happy to distribute large measures of all alcohol (and soft drinks) for no charge whatsoever. We weren't expecting that to be included in the cost of the holiday. The "band" they had on were awful but to be honest everyone was so chuffed by the free bar that the atmosphere was spot on. If you don't want to wait for the ski bus to take you up to Soldeu it is about a 25 min walk along a road with no footpath to the bars up there. There can be slight agravation waiting for the hotel's mini-bus to take you back home from the ski lifts in El Tartar in the evening as everyone is tired and it isn't really clear where you should wait and queue. That said it really is a great hotel with friendly staff, great food and a happy atmosphere.
Brilliant hotel! Location ok
Stayed at the Euro Ski feb 2005. It's a fantastic hotel, nice rooms, very clean and tidy. Leisure facilities were great and there was no charge for using them. Food was great, buffet-style, great selelection. Drinks in the bar were quite expensive and as the hotel was situated between Soldeu and El Tarter you were a bit of a 'captive audience', however, a free bus runs up and down to both Soldeu and El Tarter regularly where there are plenty of bars with big screens and 'happy hours'!! It is situated not far from the ski lifts (but too far to walk with your equipment!!)and several free shuttle buses run from the hotel all day (except for a break around lunch time). I am returning to Andorra again this year but staying at a different hotel, in one that is closer to the slopes and bars!!
get the river
Returning to this hotel in december with my daughter, and i can`t wait. It has to be soldeu/el tarters best kept secret. The place has it all:- good buffet food, clean quality rooms, nice bar (with cheap prices) and friendly staff. A small stream runs right under the bar/lounge area this is superb. The bar lounge area is a great place to relax either after dinner or a quiet drink after a knee bashing day at it. The pool and sauna are a welcome feature as is the games room for big kids like me. The t.v.s in the rooms get some english channels or for the freaks who can`t survive you can pay for some sky channels. Will be taking my ps2 again this time as the t.v had a scart socket. (how sad is that)!! Everbody raves about the pubs up in the town fat alberts and puusycat etc, but i found them dearer than the pop shops in blighty. U have been warned! andrew. stafford
A little gem
We have stayed at the Euro Ski twice now for our snowboarding holidays to Soldeu. The rooms are a good size, with double wardrobes and a sofa as standard. The bathrooms, with bath and overbath shower, are fully marble and a decent size too. The hotel is situated halfway between Soldeu and El Tartar, both are walkable but you don't need to as the ski bus runs both ways and the hotel has it's own mini bus too. This is really useful in the morning as it drops you at El Tarter, the queues here are never long and the lifts get you up to the top of the moountain very quickly. From here access to the whole Gran Valira area is good, you can do three valleys from this end and end up back in either Soldeu or El Tarter. The hotel is spotlessly clean, with good spa/pool/sauna and steam facilities. There is also an on site massage service for a fee. It's only about £20 and very worthwhile in the middle of the week. The food is also of a good standard. All meals are buffet, but despite this we found the meals to be of a good standard. There was always plenty to choose from and they were replenished throughout the evening, so you don't have to be down first to gaurantee good food. We tended to board late, have a drink, go to the pool then for dinner. This seemed to allow us to miss the families. It's also a real mix of nationalities at the hotel which is nice. Lost's of Spanish people stayed here at our last visit. We didn't feel disadvantaged by staying here and if you want a taxi to go into town if you don't catch the free bus it only costs about 5 euro. The bar area is pleasant too and entertainment was provided by way of games some nights, including bingo. Not normally our cup of tea, but it got the guests mixing and talking and was way preferable to noisy bars and overpriced drinks in some parts of Soldeu. The staff work very hard and are very pleasant. You see them at breakfast, in the evening serving dinner then again at the bar. I supose the plus for them is that they get to go skiing/boarding during the day but they are really helpful and friendly. We didn't go this year as we moved house but I'm in the process of booking up for next year, for the same hotel just now. It's considerably cheaper that some of the good hotels in Soldeu, in my opinion the price reduction is only to do with the location and not the quality.
