I have to agree with some of the previous comments. The Hotel and the grounds were stunning, but! it was definetly not a five star Hotel. On arriving you are suppse to receive a safe key, we were not given one for 3 days, at which time we were robbed of our American cash and clothes! Do not rent a car at the hotel, take a taxi. If you rent a car with your Visa they will bill you for previous damage done to the car or imaginery damage, and they will refuse to show you the damage. The food also was terrible, I had to live on Pizza. In my opinion if no one touches a plate of food, stop making it night after night. I also found employees rude, except for the day that a survey was going around and then everyone was more than helpful. I'm not sure if we just hit a bad week, but of the people we spoke with, they had the same complains. Clothes being stolen is apparently a common occurance. Several people were sick and they had people come into their room at night, once they realized someone was in the room, gave a stupid reason for coming into the room. I would not recommend this resort unless you are a risk taker!
wonderful time @ riu jalisco

My husband and I just returned from Mexico. We stayed at Riu Jalisco, and would reccomend it to anyone. Everyone is so nice and so accomedating. We stayed for a week, and I dont recall any of the employees being rude or curt with either of us. This resort is nothing like I have ever seen before. Everything, and I mean everything is so clean. If you wake up very early and look outside your window, you will see an army of people cleaning everything from the outside walkway to the beach lounge chairs. It is unbeleivable! When we were there we meet a young man named Alonso. He truly represented the hotel in a way that showed the employees cared and thought of us as guests rather then customers. He was also very fun and friendly and always had a kind word to say to everyone. He really made not only us, but eveyone he talked to feel welcome. We would reccomend that when you visit this fine resort, to look him up. We both feel very lucky to have met Alonso, he gave us a nice memory of our vacation.

We just arrived home from Riu this afternoon after a two week vacation. The resort itself was absolutely beautiful....marble tiles everywhere. The rooms were lovely and very clean. The staff were very friendly and worked VERY HARDto do their jobs well. I was very impressed with the staff. I noticed alot of themworked 12 hours a day ....and maybe more..specifically the dining room staff, bar tenders and "suits" as we called them....we never did figure out what their job actually was...other than walking around looking like important people. ??.....and.....did we think this was a 'five star' resort????......No.Don't get me wrong....it was really a great holiday and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Here are the down sides.a) the kids club was really 'non-existent'. The building was too small...and there was never any 'organized' activities for the kids. It was VERY disappointing. They definitely need to work on that one.b) there was only one actual restaurant besides all the buffet restaurants....of which there were 4. As usual, you had to book a reservation at 7am.....which was fine....but for a 700 room resort....the restaurant was absolutely tiny....with only two seatings perevening. I would estimate (liberally) that it sat approximately 50 people!! For a 5 starresort to have only one specialty restaurant with such limited seating.....that was verypoor in our estimation.c) the food was plentiful and the fruit was excellent....very fresh and flavourful....but the variety from night to night was very limited. Our children lived on pizza and friesfor two weeks. I felt like I lived on steak and hamburgers for two weeks. Not that I didn't try lots of other foods some of which were very nice.....but definitely the 'variety' from night to night was lacking for a 5 star resort.d) I'm running out of room here.....the beach was long and beautiful....we loved the beach and the waves for boogie boarding......and PEOPLE .....LISTEN UP....DON'T RESERVE CHAIRS FOR CHILDREN AT THE POOL WHEN YOU KNOW THEY WILL NOT SIT IN THEM ONCE ALL DAY.....that was definitely a problem at the pool and was utterly RUDE behaviour. By the end of the holiday we were moving the towels off chairs because of it.....that's completely unacceptable. One family had 8 chairs reserved in front of the pool.....of which 6 remained empty the whole day!!! Enough said about that!!We have been to AI's only 3 times so far.....two 5 star and one 4 star. If the Riu really is a 5 star.....then the Gala Resort in Huatulco is a 7 star!!!! Again .... enough said.Have a great holiday at the Riu....the weather there is perfect.

We stayed one week in Riu early March. Beach, food, hotel and pools were great. Liquor was awful. Mixed drinks were absent of taste and liquor and the liquor in your room tasted like moonshine. Corona beer was good, but if you enjoy a mixed drink you had better bring a bottle with you. I would go back and prepare accordingly.

The most fabulous place I have ever been in my life. The food was great, the weather was perfect, the service was amazing and best of all, the entertainment was the funniest thing I had ever seen. When I was there, Marcos, David, Victor, Cindy, Sylvina, Ivan, Jimmy, Alvaro, Javier, Indira, Mariana, Esmerelda, Enrique, Peola, Suzanna, and Armondo. The waiters were excellent. My favorites were Raul, Juan Carlos, Jose Juan, Gilberto, Hugo Humberto, and Daniel. From "Shakira"

Great Resort

We were at the Rui Jalisco from Feb 28 to Mar 7, 2003. The hotel is probably one of the nicest we've stayed at. It is extremely clean, the staff are always busy scrubbing something. The food was also very good and varied. The a la carte Brazilian restaurant was also very good but a visit here once during the week is enough as its the same menu every night. The steak house which is situated right on the ocean was our favorite place to eat. There is live music playing there until the show starts and you couldn't beat the ambiance of an ocean front seat. The chairs around the pool go very early in the morning, some people were actually up before 6 am to save chairs. There is lots of activity around the pool, if you prefer a quieter time there are plenty of chairs on the beach. We did find the beds to be a little hard and the rooms a little noisy as the design of the hotel seems to reverberate the sound upwards but that was the only things we could even find to complain about. The nearest ATM machine was about a 10 minute cab ride away at the Paradise Village Mall. There is also an ATM machine in the town of Bucerias which is also about 10 minutes away by cab. We did our souvenir shopping there as we found downtown PV to be very busy and we had visited it many times before. There is even a doctor right at the resort if needed. All in all, it was a great vacation and we would not hesitate in going to this resort again.

We arrived on February 27th before check-in so our bags were checked while we headed to one of 4 restaurants for a great buffet lunch. A great sunny afternoon around 80 degrees. To our delight, they had Corona on tap at all the restaurants. By the time we returned our room was ready. A nice surprise to see the many features of the room....balcony, well-stocked minibar (Corona in bottles!), separate room for toilet and a huge shower. Now, down to the beach. Wow, very well kept and clean...plentiful lounges....nice volleyball court. Some of the trees were still recovering so shade was harder to come by at times...we recommended they add some of those thatched umbrella stuctures. The pools are gems. Lounges are padded and very comfortable. Beautifully landscaped... a tropical paradise. The kids pool is huge also with slides, nearby playarea for very small children... all nicely done. The view of the mountains from the beach was awesome...saw whales and dolphins without leaving my lounge chair. The food was good with nice variety, but not a lot of seafood. Seating service at the restaurants could be improved and we recommended they add coffee/espresso stations versus machines. They did have coffee made on a cart with flaming brandy. Nice little show, but limited in providing a variety of coffees. The bar personnel were great and made doubles upon request. All the service employees were smiling and pleasant. The resort is a showplace architecturally with an open airy feel. A grand fountain graces the large courtyard leading to the theatre and pool areas. Nice theatre, but the shows started too late for our taste. We like to be up early to enjoy the beach in the early morning. We have stayed at 4 other AI resorts, but this one is hard to beat. I spoke with their assistant manager before I left and she took the time to listen to my suggestions and explain their approach to customer service. I have not stayed at other Riu's but I would not be afraid to based on this stay.
Great Holiday at the Riu Jalisco

Every about the Riu was tops - except: For older people 1) - the showers we dangerous - slippery and no handrails. 2) - beds were hard. Could have been slightly softer. 3) - entertainment was great - but main event started too lateFor the average Joe1) - Can't imagine any serious complaintsFor families1) - Near perfectFor all: 1) - Staff courteous and helpful 2) - Meals not gourmet, but plentiful, healthy, and great choices 3) - Great location 4) - Liquor selection adequate. beer - great. drinks - slightly underpowered - Liqueurs - forget Grand Marnier, Drambuie, etc. But you really can't complain at the price you've paid.
Better than we imagined!

Me and my husband went from 2nd Feb - 16th Feb and it was beautiful. We have stayed at AI twice before and we were very pleased with the food on offer, although I wish there had been more mexican food. Really, I agree with all the previous reviews on good staff, lovely rooms and the beach was gorgeous. Although we preferred to use the umbrellas at the pools. We are so pleased we stayed at the Riu rather than anywhere else, it just seems the best place by far. Only problem with the holiday for us was that it went too quickly. Before I go - I highly recommend the Sierra Madre Expedition and buy the video - we both loved that the most and talked about it for hours afterwards. Great Holiday - wish we were still there!!
Before we went there, we obviously read the reviews and weren't sure what to expect. People were saying it was their worst trip, horrible experiences and terrible atmosphere..those people must be hard to extremely please... We got there and were greeted with drinks and... more
