Barcelo Montecastillo Resort

We were very disappointed with this hotel. We stayed in a 1-bed villa with a patio door that did not fit properly, an intermittent stench of sewage in the bathroom, a deluge of ants if you so much as opened anything remotely resembling food (even though we were on the 1st floor), stained furniture and a kitchenette that had a hot plate but no utensils or pans with which to cook. Stayed at Montecastillo two weeks ago and found it to be an enjoyable and hospitable operation. It is situated on a beautiful golf course about 20 minutes from town. It was very quite during our stay. The room was clean and tidy. Certainly not up to 4 or 5 stars in the US, but nice nonetheless. There is a country club as part of the complex with a pleasant dinig room and the food is good. I think that the other person that reviewed this hotel stayed in the villas. I stayed in the main hotel and it was very nice overall. Two things - the a/c did not work (fan just blew). I have a feeling that maybe they had the heat on instead for the season but didn't want to tell us that for some reason. They tried to fix it but it still didn't work, but we opened the windows instead since it was kind of chilly out. Also, there was a slight sewage smell in the bathroom.
