We have just finished staying at Maritimo Beach Hotel on half board booked with Thomas Cook. What a dull and boring place to stay, the rooms are sub standard in comparison to the brochure details, no basic things like a KETTLE!!!!!!
Some of the staff are hard working and lovely but the hotel facilities are crap!

Friendly, warm and efficient hotel
We can really recommend this hotel. It is spotlessly clean, well located, very efficiently run, comfortable, well appointed and above all has extremely friendly and very hard working staff. We had a lovely rest there, particularly enjoyed the pool and found Sissi to be an excellent base to explore Crete with a car. We were on honeymoon and the staff spared no effort to treat us in a very special way - above and beyond what they need have done.
Brilliant!
I can only reiterate the positive comments I read about this hotel before our trip. We found the hotel friendly and welcoming – and above all, spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are typical Mediterranean – basic and functional but the guest areas are spacious. The main pool/pool side is well-kept and clean and there is a pleasant bar where you can buy drinks and snacks throughout the day. The food was fine – lots of variety and local dishes – and loads of breads and salads. Having re-read the negative comments about the hotel my comment would be that if you are looking for a peaceful, laidback poolside holiday with lots of reading – this is the right place. I visited with my 20 year old daughter before her return to Uni and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – reading by the pool by day and enjoying cocktails at Hemmingways Bar in Sissi Village at night. Staff at the hotel are brilliant – really friendly and helpful. Other guests – mix of nationalities – friendly and chatty and certainly no problems with sunbeds. Overall – I would highly recommend the hotel and we will certainly be returning at some point in the future.
Maritimo
Just got back from a week at Sissi and stayed in the Maritimo hotel. The hotel is really nice and in a great location (less than a minute from the beach). Food is very good and plentiful with a varied choice including vegetarian. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful at all times, especially helpful at the reception desk. The gardens and surrounds are really nice and the pool is cleaned every night. Rooms have Air Con (Payable) and a fridge which is handy for your cold drinks, rooms are a little basic but absolutely spotless with linen and towels changed daily. There isn’t any hotel entertainment which makes for a very peaceful stay. Sissi is a lovely spot, very relaxed and compact with a small number of shops and supermarkets nearby. There are plenty of good restaurants within close proximity of the harbour and lively entertainment is available in a number of establishments. If you are thinking of going to Crete and want a quiet relaxing holiday without the tackiness of Malia then Sissi will suit you fine. There was a mixture of Germans , French and Italians in the resort and I have to admit even the Germans were friendly at all times. A few tips. Trips can be booked at several local establishments in the resort and they appear cheaper than the ones your reps offer. Beware that you often have to pay additional entrance fees and boat costs. If your reps are offering all of this in the cost then you would probably be advised to book with them & I think there coaches are slightly better. Typically after paying 27 euros each for Spinalonga we had to pay an additional 10 euros for the boat and 2 euros entrance fee. If you book locally you may be offered a free trip if you book 2, this trip is to Heraklion and the market, don’t waste your time on this trip you get 1 ½ hrs at the market and about the same in the centre. I found this to be a waste of a day as it totalled about 7 ½ hrs so we probably spent more time on the coach picking up and dropping off at different resorts. Spinalonga is a nice trip, Lassithi plateau is ok but long, my advice is to do any trips that involve sailing on a boat with swimming time etc. On reflection I would probably hire a car next time and drive to a lot of the pretty little spots and not bother with organised excursions, very often you can catch a boat somewhere for the day in places like Agios Nikolios. Food and drink at Heraklion aiport are ridiculously priced, 4 euros for coffee, 5 for a small baguette, take your own. The nearest bus stop is a 2k walk but a bus leaves central Sissi for this stop at 09.15 returning around 16.00
worst place i have ever stayed !!
Me and my boyfriend have just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel. We were shown a room on maritimos website which was light and modern looking by the thomas cook travel agent as they had run out of brochures but when we were shown to our room it was dark and smelly with old fashioned furniture. We paid 98 euros for the aircon which also was smelly and it didn't work properly. We spoke to the lady on the reception about the problem but she was completely rude and unhelpful to a point of acusing us of lying and lying themselves even when the rep was there. We were told by the manager that 95 % of the aircon worked and thay had screwed the unit to only blow in 1 direction because guests kept making it blow in other directions by using the louvre option. During our stay we had no working shower for over 24 hours, faulty aircon, faulty fridge, unable to use pool for 1 day, the front door didn't lock so anybody could enter your room, lights didn't work and a bad smell in the bathroom and not enough loungers for the guests and the ones which were there were broken. Due to all the stress of these problems and the attitude of the management and staff, I had an asthma attack and my boyfriend had an overnight stay in hospital with chest pains. I would never recomend this hotel as the food was very poor and the rooms were noisy, but on good note the restaurant staff were lovely.
Not for Families
We've just returned from 11 nights in Sissi staying at the Maritimo Beach Hotel. Unfortunately, our holiday was completely ruined by the atmosphere at this hotel. Although the staff were helpful (the Pool Bar staff were fantastic), it was made very clear to us at the beginning of our holiday that young children (7 and 9) were just not welcome. This made our stay very uncomfortable as we were always worrying about our boys splashing someone when jumping into the pool, or running through the lobby with the two other children that they met when playing a chase game. They just couldn't move without us being asked to tell them to refrain from normal children's activities! The advertised 'Games Room' boasts an air hockey table and a couple of Spirograph toys, and that's it - hardly enough to keep children entertained. There is also no-one there to supervise, so you let them play there, completely out of sight and earshot at your own risk. There is not very much to do around the resort, and if you want to head out of an evening, you are looking at an expensive Taxi (30 Euros into Ag Nik each way and 15 Euros into Malia each way) as the buses aren't that regular. Crete is very expensive so if you are looking for a cheap getaway, it's not for you. We were half board and weren't offered a drink with our evening meal so it cost us 10 Euros per night just for that. The air con was 7 Euros per day, and if you want a TV, it was another 7 Euros per day - a complete rip off, especially when you are told that your room isn't ready, but that you can spend a morning/afternoon/night (all depending when you arrive) in one of the ones with air con/TV only to be told that you will need to fork out a substantial amount of money when you return to reception if you want to keep it. Many of the guests I spoke to were tricked in this manner so be aware. Beautiful location, beautiful setting, clean hotel and perfect if you want a really quiet getaway as a couple, but I really wouldn't recommend taking your children there, not if you want a stress free holiday.
fab
what can we say 600 quid half board for 2 exellent only down side you might not enjoy the food if you are not a greek food lover us brits think we are in acredit crunch go to sisi these people are worse but still manage so much warmth and hospitality nicky our waitress was tops even my partner who works for hilton hotels was impressed and we holiday alot Manos and his fiance in kadiz up the top of the road top for food all locals go here including the village priest thank you maritimo we will return
Relaxing
Stayed at the Maritimo for a week's relaxing break and it was just that - so relaxing. Quiet, picturesque area, small fishing village close by and the hotel was lovely as were the staff - all of them! Hotel geared up mainly for German tourists but that did not matter, we got a sunbed whenever we needed one. Trips excellent, especially with Thomas Cook to the Jeep Safari. Superb. Food good but the only down point was the extra charge for air conditioning - 7 euros per day. In this climate that should come as standard. Rooms basic but clean. Would come again.
Lovely hotel & area!!
Just got back from a lovely week at Maritimo Beach Hotel in Sissi. The pool, bar and reception areas are gorgeous - really clean and pretty - and the views are of the sea and mountains. The room was basic but cleaned every day, plenty of warm water and a nice balcony so no complaints there (you have to pay for the air conditioning separately though which is why I gave a rating of 9/10 rather than 10/10). It was a very quiet area and I thought the prices were reasonable. I loved the breakfast and evening meals we had with the half board. There was lots of variety. You may struggle if you are a fussy eater / only like British food but I think there would be enough there to suit everyone. There was a variety of nationalities but I liked that – met some interesting and pleasant people. I would recommend the Maritimo and would love to stay there again. Thanks to all the staff who were so friendly and hard working.
not verey good
We have just got back from this hotel the hotel was good clean and in our veiw a nice location ,But with two problems a lack of hot water in our rooms ,And the food OK if you like plenty of salad but hot meals very poor and not very hot .
Lovely Hotel
We chose this hotel because we wanted a relaxing break and were very pleased with our choice of hotel and resort. It is a medium sized friendly, family run hotel, which does not have day time activities, kids clubs etc, which is exactly why we chose it! Although they classed themselves as 4 star, in our opinion it is a 3 star hotel, and for the price we paid what we were expecting. Rooms are basic but clean and a good size. Pool was lovely and despite being virtually the only non-germans staying there, we always had a sunbed when we wanted one! ! Being out numbered really did not make a difference to our stay, as they were mostly smiley and friendly. We did find prices in Sissi more than we were expecting for a Greek island, but it is a lovely quiet resort if that's what you are looking for.
