Maritimo Beach Hotel Reviews
" worst place I have ever stayed !! "
Submitted By: scuba2001
Me and my boyfriend have just returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel. We were shown a room on maritimos website which was light and modern looking by the thomas cook travel agent as they had run out of brochures but when we were shown to our room it was dark and smelly with old fashioned furniture. We paid 98 euros for the aircon which also was smelly and it didn't work properly. We spoke to the lady on the reception about the problem but she was completely rude and unhelpful. During our stay we had no working shower for over 24 hours, faulty aircon, faulty fridge, unable to use pool for 1 day, the front door didn't lock, lights didn't work and a bad smell in the bathroom. Due to all the stress of these problems and the attitude of the management and staff, I had an asthma attack and my boyfriend had an overnight stay in hospital.
I would never recomend this hotel as the food was very poor, but on good note the restaurant staff were lovely.

" Really lovely! "
Submitted By: MISS LEO
Just got back from a lovely week at Maritimo Beach Hotel in Sissi. The pool, bar and reception areas are gorgeous - really clean and pretty - and the views are of the sea and mountains. The room was basic but cleaned every day, plenty of warm water and a nice balcony so no complaints there (you have to pay for the air conditioning separately though which is why I gave a rating of 9/10 rather than 10/10). It was a very quiet area and I thought the prices were reasonable. I loved the breakfast and evening meals we had with the half board. There was lots of variety. You may struggle if you are a fussy eater / only like British food but I think there would be enough there to suit everyone. There was a variety of nationalities but I liked that – met some interesting and pleasant people.
I would recommend the Maritimo and would love to stay there again. Thanks to all the staff who were so friendly and hard working.

Lovely, clean hotel in a fantastic location. Very quiet, and nice local town in walking distance of the hotel. Food/drinks all good and pool area very relaxing. Very popular with Germans/Austrian but makes for a peaceful holiday! Would definately return.

Well situated near the harbour mouth the hotel offers exceptional views of the sunset.
The hotel is very clean and well run, the owners/family are very attentive, helpful and cheeful. The hotel is mostly full of German/French Guests which is nice and gives a real feel that you are on holiday in a different country. There is a very pleasant pool with a bar that serves very good snacks. Throughly recommended.

Friendly, clean hotel. Although there seemed to be a lot of Austrians/Germans in the hotel this did not stop us from having a great time. If you’re looking for a relaxed/chilled break check this one out .
The hotel is right next to a small sandy beach which overlooks the harbour. Plenty of places to eat, the fish dishes are well worth checking out.
If you’re looking to use public transport be aware there is only one bus a day to the next resort along the coast, and one bus back, but there are plenty of car hire places in the resort.

We are still having difficulty with being back home!
On arrival we were very disappointed at the lack of a real beach despite the wonderful position of the hotel overlooking the sea. There is a very small harbour beach just a hop and skip from the hotel but the 20 minute walk through the village to the Kalimera Kritti hotel beach is well worth the effort - beautiful golden sand and hire of sunbeds at 3 euros if required.
The Maritimo Beach Hotel staff were very professional, friendly and eager to help. Andreas and Ann on reception never failed to greet our comings and goings with a cheery smile. The hotel appears to be particularly popular with German holidaymakers, but there were also French, Italian and Dutch staying whilst we were there - this all helped to maintain the "away from it all" and different feeling.
We were not very impressed with our tour operator before or during our holiday hence the 8 out of 10 score - we will either book independently or with another agent when we revisit.
Sissi is quiet and relaxed and takes on a different aspect at night time when the lights from the harbour bars and Tavernas are reflected on the water. We discovered The Hemingway Cocktail bar and its host Roger who makes the most amazing cocktails complete with sparklers - he also has a website with a photograph gallery of visitors. The Sissi Arms holds Karaoke and quiz evenings and has the decency to close the doors after 11.00 so that neighbours are not disturbed - it also generates a family party atmosphere rather than a raucous and rowdy "Brits on hols pub”.
We booked several trips (with Dimitrious at STOP) the Water Park, a Sailing boat, snorkelling and barbecue trip to the island of Dai, The Lasitthi plateau, Knossos and Zeus's cave. We also walked a lot - into Malia...UGH! And out again.....around the headland to Milatos and up into the old village and then on to Milatos Cave - don't go there without doing that! Fantastic views and if you have read the history of the cave you will understand why we were nearly moved to tears.
Cars, quad bikes, scooters and pushbikes are readily available for hire but we found the bus service to be perfect for our trips one way to Heraklion, Hersonossis or the other to Agios Nicholas.
I could go on but I won't - I just wanted to jot down somewhere how I feel now and thank you to everyone we met on Sissi.
