I'm surprised to see so many positives

This hotel would certainly not rate at anything like 4 stars anywhere else. The rooms are equipped to a very basic timeshare standard.
The gripes
Direct dial phone from your room requires you to either lodge a cash deposit with reception or give a credit card number everytime. It's easier to use the pay phones outside or a mobile.
No bottled water provided in the rooms, unusual for a hotel supposedly rated at 4 star.
I am surprised people can sleep on the thin hard matresses which are covered with a plastic matress protector. They are very uncomfortable and overly hot.
Double beds are in fact twin beds pushed together and made up as singles. Honeymoon couples beware!
Internet access is only available in the main foyer, there is no internet access available in the room, even on a pay to use basis.
There are two restaurants. One is a buffet and the other the a la carte. When we attempted to visit the a la carte one we were told it was fully booked until Friday when the had tables spare, and only four bookings in the diary on each day.
The coffee was pretty bad.
Our room had a number of faulty ligth bulbs, the TV wouldn't work and a number of the appliances wouldn't work. We were refused a change of room, although this did happen eventually.
The so called 'adult' pool was overrun with children.
There was a scarcity of any information about hotel facilities.
The main bar closes at 10:30 forcing anybody who wants a late drink to face the disco.
It seems quite a long way away from anything worth going to in Las Americas. We usually made the half hour walk to Los Christianos.
The pluses
There seems to be quite a lot for kids to do round the place, in addition to the pools.

The best Tenerife expierence yet

The Marylanza is a very good 4 star hotel Absolutely spotless with the most friendly staff we have ever seen anywhere. In fact I did cheekily ask Reuben one of the waiters if they were fed happy pills at the start of each shift.
The food was excellent although not always hot enough sometimes. My wife ate so much fish in the 11 days we stayed that I had to stop her trying to return to the sea.
Entertainment was so so but we are not really hotel entertainment types so no bother there. The rooms were very spacious and clean.
I must single out 2 of the reception staff for special praise.
Alicia Atalaya head of reception for her patience and managing a change of rooms for us after the first day. Now this is not your normal "something wrong with our room please move us" We were in the most exclusive location overlooking the golf course and mountains which is actually about 30 euros a day extra. However in January the sun did not get onto the balcony at all. In summer that would be a bonus but that time of year a bit chilly. She gave us the only room just vacated on the side of the building which was fine by us a s we got sun 4 hours in the afternoon. The hotel was and is fully booked for some months yet so she was under a lot of pressure. Thank you Alicia.
The other one was a great guy Rudi Pulyaert (Belgian) he was the most friendly and helpful guy you could ever wish to meet. Any information you wanted was there in seconds and he always greeted us by name.
To sum it up the best hotel experience we have had in our years of globetrotting and this is in most part down to the staff the sun and the great food.
Absolutely recommended.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Marylanza hotel from the 5th of September to the 12th 2008 and had a brilliant time. We stayed on the all inclusive option. Had read alot of reviews before trip some good some bad so was quite nervous about what hotel was going to be like!! Arrived in the morning to be greeted by a lovely receptionist whos name sadly we didnt catch she was very nice and helpful but we didnt see her for the rest of the holiday!! Which was a shame as the other staff could learn a lesson or two from her! Room very nice stayed in room f105 which we loved, view from balcony not too bad but not as nice view as the rooms over looking the golf course as we had requested. Room very spacious with kitchen area with hob and microwave which we didnt need as all inclusive but would of been handy!! Bedroom perfect size but was two twin beds pushed togehter which was a little inconvient but most hotels we have visited have been this way. Cleaners very good room was always nice and tidy and beds made when ever we came home. One day we didnt get up till late and the cleaners came in whilst we where sleeping but kindly came back later in the day whilst we where out which was unexpected! Whole hotel very impressive loved the spa although a little expensive so only got to visit once!! The only thing we had to grumble about was about the restraunte, the impression we got was that there were 3 different restuarantes in the hotel which turn out there was only one,the food was great lots of variety and well presented, we just found that eating in the same room 3 times a day got a little boring and the room could to with some different decor. couldnt complain about food at all, it also mentioned that there was a theme night 3 times a week but we only had one which was a chinese night but that was very good. we found the service in the restraunte differed from night to night some nights quite friendly and others the waiters seemed they were unhappy with serving you.One particular occasion was at breakfast, we where very thirsty and wanted a glass of water howver the water was warm! we then asked for a soft drink only for one the waiters to say soft drinks werent included at breakfast which was a pain as nither of us drank tea or cofee also snacks not included in all inclusive! all in all tho a great hotel not to far from nightlife as no entertaiment aprt from one night the comdey elvis who was good. walk to beach a little far but we rented a moped so that was handy.would go back in a few years!! very good hoilday!

Excellent hotel. Great facilities, food is excellent and great location.
3 pools including one for kids which is quieter if you want to relax. Bizarrely, even though it is all inclusive, the snacks at the bar is chargeble (not drinks) however I think this may be because some people are on bed and breakfast.
Would definately go back and actually went on recommendation. We weren't disappointed.

Jul 2008, Mr R Cartwright

Just returned from our 2 week honeymoon. Had a fantastic time. The Hotel is impressive, rooms are really well presented and cleaned regularly. Location is just right if you want a bit of peace of quiet but 5 minute taxi to bars etc. The food is great, a bit 'different' to what us british are used to but isn't that part of the holiday experience? Some very nice choices though most days. The pool is brilliant, a little short on sunbeds but if you get your towel down early enough you shouldn't have a problem. Staff can be a bit obrupt but i think thats just the spanish way sometimes! Did get a little busy towards the end of the holiday which meant having to wait sometimes but they do try their best. The entertainment is not the best, Comedy Elvis was ace and the Drifters tribute was pretty good. Don't expect a 5 star hotel as described by our lovely travel agents, its a good 4 star to be honest.

We have just returned from the marylanza and wish we were back there we had a great holiday. Myself and my partner went with our son Cody who is 1 and a half. We went all inclusive as we got a good deal. Breakfast lunch and dinner was included and all your drinks you could even have red bull. The rooms were big bedroom, lounge kitchen and bathroom we had loads of room which is good when you have children. We found the reception staff very friendly and helpful. Other people have said they found staff rude. We found that some of them in the resteraunt couldnt speak very good English maybe this is why they thought they were rude. We didnt find them rude we thought they were very good with Cody. The hotel is 4 star and I definitly agree. We found plenty of choice with the food for the evening meals they had different theme nights one night was chinese and they also had a mexican night whilst we were there. They had roast lamb, beef, turkey chicken, steak, fish and pork on the grill normally a choice of 2 or 3 each night. Then a hot food selction, a salad bar, fruit and pudding, loads of fresh bread and soup. A couple of nights they also had a chocolate fountain. Be warned at dinner men cant wear vests or shorts. We didnt get a safe and didnt have any problems we always left change on the side and it was never taken. The room was cleaned every day with clean towels every day. The only thing that could be better is the evening entertainment some nights were better than others but there was always something on and more staff as they worked very long hours. I would recommend this hotel I dont understand why there are bad reviews.

Recently arrived back from spending a...
5 / 10
Jun 2008, Ms K Holland

Recently arrived back from spending a week with my partner and 11 month old daughter at the Marylanza. To be honest the whole experience was rather disappointing. The hotel looks the part but the service was less than satisfactory. The hotel was overun with Spanish guests for the first three days due to them taking advantage of a Spanish bank holiday. This meant that we had to queue at mealtimes for 20-25 minutes. Every meal was in the buffet restaurant which felt like a school dinner hall by the end of the week. The food was adequate but very repetitive and the staff in the restaurant were very rude with the exception of Aimara (lovely girl). Once seated you had to wait ages to get a drink and on the one occassion my partner went to get his own drink he was shouted at. To avoid this, note you are expected to get your own drinks at breakfast only!!
When we asked the maitre de a question he shouted at us to ask reception if we needed information. We had to wait at the pool bar for at least 15 minutes on a number of occassions as the non-all inclusive guests seemed to take priority. The staff were very rude here too.
Reading previous reviews I knew we had to get a safe deposit box but this was an extra cost of 20 euros! The mini market was only open for one day of the holiday. When I asked to borrow an iron I was told that the hotel did not have any as they were never asked for them! I could however pay 10 euros (plus 10 euros deposit) for them to hire from a separate company for me and an additional 5 euros for the ironing board. From speaking to other guests I found the majority of them had been in this position. I would have brought my own but expected a 5* hotel to carry irons.
We just thank ourselves lucky that we did not arrive the week before when some other guests with a small baby and 5 year old twins experienced a disco below their room until 3am on two occassions. They were begged not to make a fuss as the disco was being held for some very important local people. They did offer to move them at 2am but decided against it due to the ages of their children. They had also closed the pool bar so these local people could enjoy themselves without being disturbed by the guests of the hotel!!
We were very pleased that we hired a car at the airport so we could at least escape for a while especially as we were unable to get a sunbed for the first few days during the Spanish bank holiday.
Overall the hotel lets itself down on little things as it could be really nice. The staff are rude and unhelpful, the food is mediocre and the entertainment non existent.

My boyfriend and I stayed from the 18th of May to the 28th of May 2008. We have stayed at the same hotel previously the year before which was lovely hence why we re-booked for this year. We were so excited and thought we new exactly what to expect-we were wrong! Many of the staff were new prior to our previous visit and had a complete attitude problem which verged on total rudeness. On more that one occasion we were shouted at in the restaurant which was embarrassing as it was in full ear shot of other guests. We felt so awkward we could not even finish our meal. When my boyfriend went to the pool bar at 9.55am to request two bottles of water he also was shouted at as the bar didnt open til 10 am! As we were all inclusive we had free drinks at the bar, but were kept witing over 20 minutes on atleast four occasions as the bar staff priorities those who are paying for their drinks. When we requested to speak to the manager he would not come and speak to us as he was not in his suit and insteqad we had to deal with some very patronising and rude reception staff. In fairness, when the restaurant manager was informed he came and apologized to us personally but even then one of the staff members who we had complained about came over mid conversation and started shouting in Spanish which was completly inappropraite and threatening to the point where the manager told her to go away. You never get re-fills of your drinks in the restaurant and if you go to help yourself your told off! The food was lovely and the room is spacious and clean. We found that our overall experience of the restaurant was appaling due to the rudeness of the staff which really let down the hotel which is infact a lovely place to stay, I would never go back to this hotel, it was lovely last year but this year it had let its standards slip. I would really advise people to avoid this hotel at all costs if you want a pleasent holiday.

firstly, i've read a few previous reviews from others and to be honest if you're going to coplain that it rained when you stayed, you're being petty and if you have a gripe about las americas is a bit ;ike blackpool, then don't visit tenerife!!
i stayed at the marylanza for a week all inclusive from the 20th of may till the 27th and i throughly enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to anyone - young or old. hotel is very modern, all marble floors etc. i've been to tenerife quite a few times and stayed in some dives so it was very pleasing to walk in to this lobby. reception staff quite frienly but will try there best to help you (all the girls on reception very good looking!!), rooms very spacious, big marble floors and bathrooms have twin sinks. you will more than likely not get a sea or pool view as will have to pay extra for but don't worry the normal rooms are more then fine. rooms are cleaned every day with fresh towels whcih was nice. you can hire beach towels there for 10euro deposit. all inclusive does not include snacks at the pool bar!! (however, this was a blessing in disguise for me and my girlfriend as we would have just piled on the weight). the no pool snacks is not a problem as the food served in the restaurant is great. it caters for everyone; young, old, fussy eaters, foreigners etc. we ate here 3 times a day and couldn'e say a bad things about it. breakfast, massive array of fresh fruit, about 5 differents cereals, full englishes, omlettes cooked in front of you, eggs cooked to you liking, pastries, pancakes and syrup, the choice is endless! lunch is 2 pasta choices, a meat and a fish cooked in fornt of you, fresh fruit, loads of sald, breads, chips, pizzas, chicken buggets, more more more. evening meals were simlar to lunch but more choice and obviously more evening meal appropriate types of food. sweets available to both lucng and evening evening meal. sweets aren't the best but you'd be nit picking if you moaned about it. men MUST wear long trousers at eveing meal so make sure you take some! drinks are served by the waiters at luch and evening meal, at breakfast you help yourself to tea, coffee, water, juice from machines and freshly squeezed juice too! bar open till 2400hrs, sprits are locals ones but still ok. gym very very good but costs 6euros a go, or 30euros for the week. spa is top class. you get a free vouchers for it upon arrival wirth 20euro each. make use of it. worth it. hotel entertainment is ok but if you don't like then the nightlife is only a ten minute walk away!!
100% recommend this hotal to anyone!!!!!!

We have been going to Tenerife for the last ten years, and without a doubt this is the best hotel that we have ever stayed in.
Rooms are beautifully presented, food excellent, staff friendly and professional at all times.
The complex is situated in a peaceful loctaion and in an easy walking distance to main beaches, shops, resturants and nightlife if required, you are 5 minutes away from the main tourist area, but this hotel is situated in the higher class part of los chritianos and las americas.
we highly recommend this hotel as it is completely beautiful.
We are returning to Marylanza This year in September.

Firstly,
I am not usually the type of person to complain about a hotel.
The staff were lovely and very funny though some of them are still learning English, fair enough.
The food was fantastic!
The location was great, though if you have a little trouble walking i would suggest a taxi, which are very cheap. If you love the night life and dancing the night away then Veronicas in Los Cristianos is the place to be! Also there are a selection of irish bars in Veronicas too, the live entertainment in them is fantastic!
Now to the complaining part, so we got robbed whilst staying in the Marylanza and after speaking to a few people around the hotel we found out that this is not an uncommon thing.
When we reported our misfortune to the reception the staff were very unhelpful.
All i can say is the Marylanza is a lovely hotel the rooms are clean and the cooking facilities for self catering are good, but, make sure you get a safety deposit box!
I hope this helps someone somewhere.
