Firstly I am a bit fussy so I may be over critical.
I have been to Tenerife and specifically Las Americas 4 times in 1971, 1986, 1994 and now in 2007. It has changed beyond recognition every time!
The hotel Marylanza is classed as 4 stars but would certainly not class as a 4 star Hotel in the UK.
It takes more than marble to achieve this. It is a very clean 2 year old Holiday resort Hotel and as such is modern and pleasant to stay at.
The Good:
It is in very good repair. The rooms are cleaned properly every day.
There are 3 pools one of which is well heated and they are all clean.
The restaurant is well serviced by staff and the food is good although they could vary it a bit as after a week it all became a bit monotonous. The free drinks bit is good value but only local cheaper brands are included.
The decor is nice and modern throughout. It is situated in a nice quiet area of an otherwise busy holiday resort. It is about 5-10mins walk from the beach. 10 mins walk from Los Cristianos. 20 mins drive from the Airport.
It is not directly next to any building projects at present, although on the Spa end there is a bit of scruffy waste ground that the rooms that end overlook.
The bath in our room was build to take the larger northern European person and as such was big enough for 2...easily.
The bar staff are eager especially with the measures. It is close [25 min walk] to the Golf course which we did not try out. We did try the Spa pools and Gym which was modern and reasonably priced. The sun!
The Bad:
The coffee sucks.
It rained on our second day and the Hotel leaks like a sieve in the lobby area. Water and Marble =Ice rink and was very dangerous on the stairs. The rooms are leak proof though.
To get to most rooms you have to go along an uncovered corridor and you will get wet if it rains.
The showers by the pool next to the Squash courts don’t drain well and water will end up on the floor outside of the showers and here again water and marble don’t mix.
The hotel receptionists were a bit cold and were there to do a job!
The food was recycled/ re heated a bit but wasn't too bad. We ate out a bit as well so wasn’t a problem and we didn’t end up with Botulism.
The red wine sometimes seemed a bit watered down, there again it was sometimes good.
The entertainment was mediocre, although if you get stuck in you can make it what you want.
There is a funny sewage smell on the 1st floor corridor by the pool.
The Drambuie was not free.
You get a bit bored of drinking for the sake of it, in fully inclusive.
It could have had a tennis court.
The las Americas and los Cristianos area is all a bit.... Blackpool.
Room 116 had a constant hum which was mildly annoying at 2 am when everything is running through your head at the same time.
A couple of Euros stolen from each room once every week is not enough to call the police and ends up as a cute little tip for one dishonest person!!! My son had x2 2 Euro coins removed from his unattended wallet in the room, on the last day...He shouldn’t have left it there unattended...there again it should have been safe.
Conclusion:
If you want a week away in the winter sun with young family, it fits the bill to a tee. I would rather be at the Marylanza than in any of the multitude of other hotels in the Los Disney land/los Cristianos/Las Americas/Adeje area.
It was a pleasant stay on a sometimes beautiful Island, spoiled by Tourism.
If you want proper 4/5* service don’t go to Tenerife; it is a holiday Island and you won’t get it there.
Recommendations....
Ask the bar tender to make your coffee with espresso and not the filtered. They do have an espresso machine hidden in the back!
Comedy Elvis...he was a bit close to the mark on occasions and his humour went straight over the 80% or so non English occupants heads. Don’t miss him if you are game for a laugh.
The tall coloured singer did 80s and rap music a treat and had us rocking.
2 hours in the Spa hit all the right spots.
If you get bored easily, hire a car for the week; we did Loro Park, Los gigantes, Pto la Cruz, Santa Cruz, Icod and The volcano, off our own backs over 3 days. We hired a car from the Airport for under £100 which saved on Hotel transfers and used 40 Euros of fuel and it was great to have the flexibility and freedom to do our own excursions and exploring.
The real Canarian food in non tourist towns where there were no British /Northern Europeans and they don’t speak a word of English, hit the right spot. Just take a dictionary so you know what you have ordered!
And lastly...Save your money and go to Italy in the summer! We do every year... two or three times at least and it knocks spots off Tenerife in every way, in my opinion!
...there again my wife is Sicilian and I love pasta, Italian cars and coffee that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world... especially downtown UK even though they think they can at costa republic etc!
Actually I shouldn’t recommend Italy as everybody will go there and we won’t have it to ourselves in 2008.ps Ryan air no longer do penny flights to Italy so it will cost at least £20 each to get there!

Dec 2007, Mr D MITCHELL

Just arrived home from week at excellent Marylanza. The room was cleaned daily, the restaurant/bar staff were always friendly and funny and helpful.
The food was excellent, lots of choice and always fresh and well presented including caviar and smoked salmon and champagne at breakfast. All inclusive definitely a good option. The spa was brilliant; everyone is given a complimentary ticket on arrival.
There are 3 pools and there is some daytime entertainment which is not the best but you don’t have to join in.
The entertainment was ok at night but came on between 9.30-10 and lasted about an hour, hence rating of 9. But the Marylanza is ideally placed for short walk to Las Americas and Los Cristianos if you needed some more entertainment or for shopping,
Checkout was 12 but the code was changed on the door at 11 which meant we had to go back to reception and have the card re programmed which is a bit unfair as it stated 12 but if they’re the only 2 problems with the hotel – well, it can’t be bad.
So overall excellent holiday, it just went too fast. Will try and book for another visit to the Marylanza next year - thanks for a great holiday.

Just had a beautiful week at the Marylanza. The room was cleaned daily, the restaurant/bar staff were always friendly and helpful.
The food was excellent, lots of choice and always fresh and well presented. All inclusive definitely a good option. The spa was also very good, given a complimentary visit on arrival.
Lovely pools and pool area with some daytime entertainment for all but you don't have to join in if you don't want to.
The entertainment was not too good, hence rating of 9. However, the Marylanza is ideally placed for short walk to all the shopping and nightlife you can handle - if you want it.
Brilliant holiday and would definitely recommend it.

We have just returned from a 10 day...
9 / 10
Nov 2007, Ms P J Clover

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at the MaryLanza. The hotel is very nice and the apartment was exceptionally spacious. Apartments were cleaned and towels changed on a daily basis. The air conditioning and in house radio system were very nice indeed. As we were All Inclusive we didn't expect to have a kitchen area complete with fridge and microwave so that was a bit of a surprise (nice though). We bought in some ready made coffee so if we wanted a drink before breakfast or late at night (or the middle of the night) then we were free to do so.

The food was varied and there was plenty of choice and it didn't matter what time you went for your meal there was always a full range of choice. Evening meal times were 1830-2130 which was ideal depending if you were going out or just coming in.
All the hotel staff were some of the best we have ever encountered in Tenerife, very friendly and genuinely pleased to see you (Marcelo in the restaurant was particular lovely). Absolutely no sun bed rush in the mornings, more than enough to go round, all day. Loved the different stalls on an evening selling jewellery, bags etc.
The only negative things I would say are: The evening entertainment is sadly lacking, any 'lets stay in the hotel tonight' is not worth doing. The bar closes at midnight (with no exception). You can't even BUY a drink. We arrived just before midnight so managed one drink then had to go out to find somewhere to eat. As we have been to Tenerife a number of times we had the advantage of knowing where to go. A complimentary pack in your room would be a nice touch and would be very much appreciated after travelling.
Don't be fooled by the 'Golf Resort' in the name. The only advantage is a 10% discount and it's still pretty pricey so 'our men folk' chose not to play. On the plus we didn't see any flying golf balls! As we were on the other side overlooking the road and sea, we never even saw the golf course.
Overall we had a lovely 10 days and would recommend this hotel as the cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, and the food was faultless.

We have just come back from a week’s All Inclusive holiday to the Marylanza, that is myself, hubby and 2 yr old daughter.
I was a little apprehensive about going due to previous reports but I was quite impressed with what we have experienced.
On first impressions of arriving, the hotel was stunning and above clean. Marble floors were gleaming and we were greeted by a very pleasant English speaking receptionist. We were giving details of our room and off we went.
On entering the room we were well impressed. Again spotlessly clean, lovely sized room, full working air conditioning worked independently from both the lounge area and bedroom and also had a built in radio with speakers in the lounge and bedroom which was a nice touch. The rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels being left out as well.
We also had a lovely sized balcony which although overlooked the street it looked out to the sea. The only complaint about our room which was A210 was that it could get quite noisy at night time when the entertainment came on, as it was held outside by the pools.
So on our first night we were not happy with the noise level from the entertainment so hubby went to reception and asked whether they could turn the noise down but was advised that they were unable to do so, so he asked for our room to be changed.
We were offered one other option which he was given the key for to have a look at before we accepted. This for us was a better choice as it was right at the end of the hotel and looked over the mountains, so we opted for that one and moved our things (room F110).
The food was edible, nicely laid out and good choices but after a few days got boring as it seemed to be the same things. Breakfast had a full choice of cooked items, omelette bar, fresh pastries, various different breads, cold salads, fresh fruit, cereals, and yoghurts.
Lunch was salads and a selection of hot meals and dinner was the same again. There wasn’t really anything specifically for kids you had to find something for them in same section as adults which at times was a little hard.
The location of the hotel was excellent, approx 20 mins into los Cristianos and the same again for Las Americas and also the beach.
Overall we have given the holiday 8/10 and we would go back there again.

Oct 2007, Mr J Passfield

My partner, her 15 year old son and myself stayed here with our friends and their similar aged son for a week. The only slight let down was with the entertainment, there wasn't a huge amount going on for the boys. We were there during term time and it is a golfing aparthotel.
Johann, the hotel resident entertainer did work hard at getting guests to join in with what he was able to lay on, i.e. pool, darts, BB pistol target shooting etc and made you feel very welcome.
Everything else in this hotel is superb; the choice of dishes at all meals is amazing. We found all the staff to be friendly and also hard working keeping the place clean, checking the three pools.
We had three apartments on the opposite side to the entrance; there were superb views to the golf course and mountains beyond that. The rooms were cleaned every day, were spacious and well equipped.
We had a very relaxing and stress free stay, I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and look forward to returning in the near future.

Accommodation - spacious, very clean,...

Sep 2007, Mr S Towers

Accommodation - spacious, very clean, and new. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and toiletries, clean bedding every other day. Rooms also had a small kitchen in which everything worked well.
Food and drink - Large variety of food something for everyone, easy to eat your five a day, never ending drinks. Bottled water also included to use in your room.
Staff - friendly and never stopped working they got friendlier as the days went on .
Entertainment - Spa was fab and definitely worth a go. Entertainment was good during the day but poor in the evening but only lasted an hour, the harp player was good though and pleasantly relaxing. Sunbeds were free and towels provided for poolside also by request.
Overall - we booked just 4 days before we arrived and all four of us were pleasantly surprised, I would recommend this resort to everyone, relaxing, and stress free and friendly.
It was so nice we rarely left the complex. We never saw any cockroaches.

Sep 2007, Ms A Robinson

Just returned from a lovely 1 week break at the Marylanza Hotel.
Accommodation is very clean & modern, we were all inclusive, but you can self cater as the rooms have microwave, hob, fridge and coffee machine.
The food was SUPERB - lots of choice, including fish, Chicken, Roast, Pasta & pizza etc
The pools are positioned really well - get the sun all day, and are safe, clean & well maintained, the sunbeds and umbrellas are all in good condition
The evening entertainment isn't the best, although 'comedy Elvis' is worth watching, so you may want to venture out in the evening at times.
We hired a car through the Hotel for a few days to explore - DON'T hire a jeep as we did, it was a bone shaking un -roadworthy load of rubbish... you live and learn.
The hotel is in a good location between Los Cristianos and Play De Las Americas, just far enough away from the crowds.
Finally - Well worth a visit - you Will Not be disappointed...

Marylanza Golf Resort. 5-10...

Aug 2007, Mrs W Boult

Marylanza Golf Resort. 5-10 minutes’ walk from central location. Newly opened. Fantastic view from some rooms.
Hotel was excellent. Staff very friendly. We were given wrong change and they apologised the next day.
Food is excellent, consistent with what you get on all inclusive but this was pretty exceptional. Odd days was different, but always something for everyone. Fresh pancakes, omelettes in the morning. Champagne, smoked salmon. Fresh pizza and pasta every day amongst other stuff.
3 nice pools. Larger pool has built in bubble pool - find the buttons near to it and your laughing.
Entertainment poor but I think they will have worked on that by next year.
All inclusive drinks good and plentiful with measures.
Always sun bed available.
Rooms very clean and cleaned every day.
Would I stay here again - yes and yes again.

Jan 2007, Mr Campbell

Had a great holiday here, me my partner and her children enjoyed our stay.
The food was great, the beer also tasted good (Dorada). Being all inclusive I thought there would be a clinch but not so, good location between Los Cristianos and Play De Las Americas.
Think they still working on the gym and entertainment, also no computers are available to use but an Internet cafe is just down the road.
I would love to go here again, in the sun every day (Dec 24th 2006 - Jan 3rd 2007).
Our rooms where cleaned every day, the heated pool was lovely and the rooms were spacious! The staff were actually friendly too!

Dec 2006, Miss J Cookson

Myself and my husband booked a last minute deal to the Marylanza in Tenerife. Having been to Las Americas numerous times I couldn't believe it was possible to stay 5* all inclusive at such a cheap rate, so I didn't expect it to be luxurious.
Wow was I wrong. We had a huge apartment all to ourselves. The hotel is brand new so everything was immaculate. The food was great, great location, couldn't have asked for more.
We will definitely be returning to the Marylanza I just hope the price doesn't start to go up once it becomes more established!
