Having spent 3 weeks at the Vulcano...

Having spent 3 weeks at the Vulcano January 2008, we had a wonderful stay and would
certainly go back. The superior room was large and pleasant with comfortable clean
beds. The only drawback was you could hear other residents in the bathroom i.e.
teeth cleaning, toilet flushing etc. The food was excellent and plenty of choice. Swimming pool area plenty of sun beds to choose from drawback was residents up at
the crack of dawn reserving the sunniest beds. The hotel is situated in an ideal location
close to all amenities and a short walk to the beach. Staff we found very pleasant and
helpful. We look forward to returning to the Vulcano next year - EXCELLENT HOLIDAY

Previous stay at hotel took me back...

Jan 2008, Mr A Burns

Previous stay at hotel took me back for Xmas break, single room for one week; the hotel staff made me feel very welcome and part of the family.
The room was first class, reception excellent, and a very warm welcome awaits every visitor. Cascada bar is very inviting and relaxing for everyone. The poolside bar/restaurant is nice and relaxing with excellent staff during the day.
The main restaurant managed by Daniel is excellently run with all staff giving 100% during your meal, my stay took me over Xmas day and the evening meal, I must say was worthy of any five star hotel anywhere!
My overall rating reflects the quality and professionalism shown by the entire hotel management and staff.
The hotel caters more for the elderly, but everyone is treated with the same courtesy, I’m only 45 but will be re-booking again for this Xmas.
Many thanks for a fantastic holiday.

This was our first visit to Tenerife...

Jan 2008, Levi

This was our first visit to Tenerife after years of doing the Balearics and mainland Spain.
We were very impressed at the standard of the whole area, clean and well maintained and beautifully presented, with fountains, flowers, and neon lights at night.
Our hotel, the Vulcano, was situated towards the Los Cristianos end of town. Here are loads of superb designer shops dealing in perfume, jewellery, leather goods, and designer fashions. There are also lots of good quality gift shops.
The coastline is absolutely beautiful and the sunsets are out of this world!
The Vulcano is a superb 4* hotel with spacious rooms and a foyer to die for - covered from top to bottom in greenery! It has really good bars with evening entertainment, though with so many brilliant bars literally on the doorstep - you just have to go out and experience all the great cabaret evenings and wannabees!
The dining room is superb and the food really good, plenty of choice (more than anywhere else I’ve been) and its HOT! The Bulls Head bar nearby has a great choice of evening entertainment, and the Surfers bar offers great homemade meals at good prices (with football on the telly!).
What more could you want? It’s a fabulous holiday 10 out of 10; I can’t wait to go again!

Once we got there we arrived in...

Once we got there we arrived in heaven. The lobby with its lavish display of plants and exotic rain-forest flowers, just as we had arrived in the hanging gardens of Babylon.
All the floors were decorated with luxurious marble floors. and at the far end of it all was the reception. The staff were very helpful and can speak good English, German, French and of course their native language Spanish!
Room was spacious, beds were comfy. But had to ask the maids in the morning for extra pillows, because the ones they supplied us were skinny. Plenty of shops nearby that sell Chanel, Dior, Calvin Klein & Springfield products. I was in heaven, literally!
The night life excellent!
I'd recommend bars such as the Monkey Bar; The 'Gorilla fart' shots are to die for. I was quite put off by their name. But it was really nice; it tasted of bourbon whiskey and Bacardi.
I would have given the hotel 10/10, but the only downfall was the hotel was for the older clientele. 94% of the people there were over 56. It reminded me of the film Cocoon.
Nathan.

We spent eleven very enjoyable days...
9 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs L Hill

We spent eleven very enjoyable days at this hotel and would definitely go back there again. The staff are very friendly especially at reception. I lost an item of nightwear which was inadvertently taken away with the bed sheets. Two days later it had actually come back, been ironed and put in our room!
To the person who commented about not having the same table twice, they obviously have little experience of foreign hotels as very rarely are there any where tables are allocated. That to us is not a problem at all as long as there is a table available, which there was every day.
The food is excellent, with plenty of variety, fresh salmon, freshly cooked chicken, beef and pork, stews, omelettes, choice of potatoes, potato wedges or chips, and of course a huge selection of salad. The desserts were absolutely mouth-watering and plenty of choice. We found the soups to be particularly tasty. The comment by another guest about the lack of provision of coffee after dinner, this is normal practice in nearly all the hotels.
There have been one or two comments about elderly guests. The people who made those comments will be elderly themselves one day! We found it a refreshing change not to have screaming children running around the pool area and in the pool itself and also at night in the bar. We both do like children but it was nice to have a few days of quiet and relaxation. We found all the elderly guests to be very friendly.
Our room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The towels were changed every day and bed sheets changed quite regularly. Our only problem was with the air-conditioning which was a bit noisy. The guest who remarked about the cleaners operating from 9 am obviously doesn't get up very early. We were going down to breakfast at that time, so we didn't hear the cleaners. Neither did we notice the sound of high heels over our heads. We did hear some noise but it did not keep us awake. All the corridors are carpeted which helps.
In answer to one of the comments that they had to go to the beach instead of sitting by the pool, surely cannot be a hardship as the beaches are fantastic and beds were always available. It makes it sound as if they wanted to spend their entire holiday within the confines of the hotel. We had no problem with the beds by the pool, they can, in fact, be moved around, not as one guest said they can't be moved and the practice of towels being put on beds is common practice all over the world but this is the only hotel where we have noticed that if there are no available sunbeds by the pool, the pool attendant will remove towels for other guests to use!
The walk to the beach is a fairly short one, about 10 minutes, but if you go down to the promenade and turn left and just keep walking you come to Los Christianos beach, which is absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. It is huge and there are plenty of bars, cafes, and shops along the promenade at the back of the beach. There are even toilets on the beach which is rare!
All in all, we had a fantastic holiday at the Vulcano and will be going there again next year. A final comment would be that we did not think it is quite four star, but more of a three star plus but don't let it put you off.

Spent a fantastic fortnight at the...

Aug 2007, Mr M James

Spent a fantastic fortnight at the Hotel Vulcano from the 20 July to the 3 August, the first thing that you notice on arrival is the fantastic entrance with all it's exotic plants. We had a very spacious room with a very good view over the sea. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel itself is spotlessly clean.
Meals are buffet style and a very good selection e.g. salmon, sirloin steaks, all sorts of fish, chicken, some Spanish dishes and don't forget the sweet trolley it is to die for. Soft drinks at the pool bar are costly e.g large glass of fanta 4 euros, so go to the supermarket next door and buy some cans that will fill a large glass from the hotel bar for only 65 cents.
The beach is onlu 5 mins away, come out of the hotel up a small flight of steps turn right up a small pavement turn right again and follow the path. Sunbeds were always plenty full and we never had any problem getting one around the pool. Join in with the hotel games team they are great fun eg french boulles, archery, darts, water polo, mini golf, table tennis, shuffleboard ,aqua aerobics, rifle shooting and bingo etc.
We went to Mount Teide well worth a visit. Also went to the water park, found that to be a bit of a rip off entrance fee 24euros 50 and once you are in you have to pay extra for the rubber rings 11euros, lockers 4 euros, sun beds 4euros, make sure to take sandals as the floor gets very very hot and is difficult to walk on, go and see the dolphin show.
Hotel shows are hit and miss, look out for the drag act bitter and twisted really good, or go across the road to the sister hotel Bitacora to see what shows they have to offer, cant wait to go back.

Difficult where to start to be honest...
5 / 10
May 2007, Mr J McAllister

Difficult where to start to be honest with this hotel.
We had planned a family holiday - 6 of us at Vulcano- parents (early 60's), my partner and I (mid 30's) and sister and husband (20's) - my brother could not book in as it apparently was full so he stayed at Mare Nostrum resort.
We chose this hotel as was 4* and so expected some quality - and my parents are disabled (we were led to believe it was disabled friendly).
We arrived and waited an hour to book in at reception as only one staff to do this. A very grand reception with plants but really all show and no substance. Rooms were dated and more consistent with 2-3* and really needed decor updating.
Lifts were small and few and far between for the number of mainly elderly guests and we have never seen as many wheelchairs.
Dining room was huge but staff were good, food was plenty and of good quality but after 7 days became monotonous - the local restaurants were not as good. The availability of coffee after dinner in the dining room would have made a difference to the enjoyment.
We found it somewhat bizarre that you could not carry drinks from the hotel bar to the dining room - we were made to leave outside or drink down before entering dining room.
We were informed by our operator Thomson 3 weeks prior to departure that "some work" would be taking place to the roof of the pool bar during our stay.
In fact this was being totally rebuilt and the noise from pneumatic drills and clanging girders was unbearable at times and echoed throughout the hotel from 08:00 till 18:00 - you can imagine the only saving grace from this, was that there was plenty spare sunbeds, as most people were unable to tolerate this during the day.
We were offered the use of the sister hotel Bitacora pool if we wished but how useful can this be if you have a disabled parent in a wheelchair, and you chose the Vulcano for this reason.
Our brother was refused access to the hotel pool as he was a not a guest and was only allowed after I requested a meeting with the hotel manager - indeed the assistant manager allowed this reluctantly, after I pleaded our case suggesting it would make our holiday untenable if he could not spend some time with us.
My parents surprisingly may go back as they said the guests were of their generation and older, but the rest of us would not.

My husband and I (60 and 56) returned...
9 / 10
Apr 2007, Mrs F Titterton

My husband and I (60 and 56) returned to the Vulcano after visiting once before in 2000. We had enjoyed the holiday so much then that we decided to return.
We were just as impressed this time.
The hotel was exceptionally clean, lovely room with air con, mini bar, Satellite TV, phone and was cleaned every day and beds changed once during the week.
All staff were friendly, polite and helpful.
The restaurant was self-service with a wonderful and varied choice of food. Spoilt for choice! Although we did notice, as a previous reviewer had said, that glasses of apple juice were put on certain tables to reserve them!
However, there were many other tables available, so this did not worry us.
Entertainment each evening was varied and of a good standard.
The pool area seemed a bit small for the size of the hotel but again this was kept really clean, but unfortunately, it was very noticeable that guests were allowed to put towels on sun beds early in the morning and many of these beds were not sat on until later in the afternoon.

Me, my mum and friend visited here in...
10 / 10
Mar 2007, Miss H Leigh

Me, my mum and friend visited here in June last year and it was the best holiday ever. The hotel was really nice, very clean and very spacious. The rooms were big and provided you with everything you needed.
Me and my friend had a large room with sea views. It was cleaned daily and the staff were friendly. They dealt with us in a polite manner and would help you with any problems you may have come across. The pools were big and clean and there were plenty of sun beds, but if people put their towels down and didn’t use these beds the lifeguard would remove them so you could use them.
The entertainment was great and the food was fantastic as it was a large buffet. I would definitely go here again!!

We arrived to the Vulcano hotel only...

We arrived to the Vulcano hotel only to find a sparkling, immaculately clean hotel. Magnificent food and very friendly and helpful young and older staff. Cannot be faulted.
I would recommend this hotel to other friends and we will definitely be returning ourselves next year at some point. The pools are lovely and clean and if you go to the pool and the beds are all taken by people leaving their towels on them the pool. The attendant will remove the towels for you so that you can make use of the bed, which is something I have never come across before.
The entertainment in the hotel was very very good and only found it naff one night out of seven. Hotel computers were available for me, to be able to talk to my kids on m.s.n as this was a child free holiday.
Excellent time, thank you. Chris and Mick.

Vulcano hotel was definitely the best...

Sep 2006, Miss A L Henderson

Vulcano hotel was definitely the best hotel I have ever stayed in and the rest of my family are there now, they love it that much! The food is fantastic and of the best quality and the actual hotel itself is great.
The rooms are kept clean and tiny on a daily basis and there is a fab mini bar in the room. The pool is great too! Overall, couldn't ask for any better!
