We had two weeks at The Athena and while the studios were basic as expected for Greece theye were not stocked-up as they should have been for self catering. The worst thing was the lack of cleaning. The cleaner came in most days made the beds, give a quick mop of the floor... more

Please, please dont go here. The male owners were very unfriendly and positively rude to us. The experience was so awful. To sum up this week of hell would be, unfriendly and extremely dirty - beyond basic.

The appartments here are the usual basic Greek standard. Most rooms have a great view especially the balcony view which mostly covers the Accropolis. The service is very warm and welcome and the staff are ALWAYS happy to help and engage in conversation. Pool is never too... more

One of the best places I have stayed. I was there the first year it was open, infact the first week it was open! - Great staff and a fantastic place to stay. Lindos is a good walking area, bit rocky and you need to watch your footing. Easy bus travel. Although only 10... more

Lindos Athena superb
Smashing stay in this gorgeous outpost of Lindos. Lovely gardens with beautifully manicured lawns and luscious banana plants. Room was excellent as was the pool area. great view of the hills and surrounding area. The staff were very pleasent, Alex ever attentive, Theo and Sophie always available and Peri ready to serve your every whim. A special mention to the chef (who has now departed unfortunately) and the maids. All overseen by the wonderfully gregarious Socrates. Lindos itself is a short downhill stroll away(taxi back?). Too many restaurants and bars to mention, my own favourite being Socrates where the entertainment excels! I am returning to this little gem this week and will update on any developments.
Excellent Athena
Can only say - "what a great place". Myself, my other half and my daughter stayed here on a family trip for a wedding. The Athena provided everything we needed in terms of accommodation, service and atmosphere. We knew that the rooms would be basic from other reviews and as a result had no problems. The air con worked fine and whilst there were a few cosmetic detractions, they didn't spoil anything. The staff were incredibly friendly - Alex, Peri, Socrates himself et al, (within 5 minutes of getting to the bar for the first time i had a glass of Socartes' home made ouzo in my hand - actually, not recommended!!!) made us all very welcome. The walk into Lidos town wasn't a problem, though i can understand some people being a little upset as it was extemely steep!! For a budget holiday place i cant think of anywhere better to stop in Lindos, if you want a bit more luxury, the rest of our family was up in the Lndos View, and whilst looking really nice and well maintained, was a bit clinical for our tastes. If a certain lady from Glasgow is reading this (she's one of the many who return year after year and if they don't get into the Athena, they go there during their days), just another massive thanks for getting us to the wedding on time, along with George. The one caveat I would put on this is that having read plenty of reviews praisng their food, it turns out that this year they had a problem with their chef, so whilst the food is still of excellent quality, it's now more along the lines of a bar menu.
We Love The Athena
The lindos Athena is everything it says it is, it doesn't try to be anthing it isnt. The apartments are to a lovely standard, clean, tidy and the maids come everyday. (except for change over day)There is a charge of 40euros a week for airconditioning, but given that the appartments across the road were 80euros a week, with the weather and the price its a must. the situation of the appartments are a gentle walk from the main road and is about 10-15 minutes walk from the village, which helps walk off those large beers. There is a supermarket a stones throw away which has everthing you will need and friendly staff. The main aspect of the Lindos Athena appartments that sets it apart from all the others is the staff who helped make our holiday perfect. They do everything they can and more to ensure a great holiday. Appealing to all ages. If you are up for a good laugh and a few drinks, you should try Socrates bar which is down in the village, with Alex and George the best bar men EVER, the bar plays Rock and Roll music and if you are not a fan now you soon will be!! enjoy !! Lindos is lovely, the Athena was good.
The Lindos Athena is not an expensive place to stay, people should really take this into consideration when reviewing a place. Previous reviews are laughable - No Indoor pool and the staff are too relaxed, give us a break ! Firstly, there are no hotels as such in Lindos as it's a beatiful little village full of Greek listed buildings now converted into restaurants, pubs and shops. Therefor the best you can do is stay as close as possible. The Athena is as good as it gets - it's a 10 minute trek down the hill to the town. The Athena has a nice pool, and a bar with snacks available. That should be enough for you ! The place is staffed by the owners 2 sons who take it easy and are friendly. The maids come regularly , every day during the week. Strangely, the balconies from the rooms are doubles, therefor you have to share a balcony with your neighbours, this is great if your neighbours are nice, we were there for 2 weeks, our first set of neighbours were a nice couple from Birmingham. The second set were a right pair of doughballs! 2 English girls - 1 of whom kept stealing one of our chairs to put her feet up on. This would be cool if she put it back, but she never, once fair enough, twice hmmmm, three times means you are taking the 'P', I've better things to do than retrieve my chair every morning. They had the cheek to go in the huff after I pointed this out. Anyway, rant over. Lindos is a lovely place for couples or families. Dodge it if you are a group of youngs 'uns on the razz. The Athena is nice and handy for it.
Thanks for the ice cream
We have just returned from our holiday at The Athena Lindos and would like to say thank you to Alex, Peris and Theo for a great, memerable holiday. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the shower was hot and the plug sockets were all stratigically placed next to the mirrors (really important if you are a woman). The staff were helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We would like to say a special thank you to Alex for the ice cream, and Peris for the hours of entertainment while he was being taught to dance like Tina Turner, by one of the guests, and like Arnold Schwartzeneger....we will be back. Love Sandie and Jan xx
A charming, 3* self catering hotel
We stayed at the Athena in June/ July 07 and had a great time. The hotel is run by a lovley family who are very welcoming. The accomodation is the usual standard greek 3* self catering apartment. Nothing special but a good basic room which is clean and functional. The pool and bar/ snack area is equally fine, good staple food with a wide selection of drinks available. Location wise the hotel is fine, broadly inline with other new hotels which are going up at the top of lindos with the steep, but short walk into the beautiful old village with cobbled winding narrow streets filled with bizzares/ shops, restuarants and bars. When its hot, its hot, so the taxi and donkey services up the hill and to the acropolis are invaluble and good value for money at a few pounds each journey. As part of a large party of people staying in a selection of properties in Rhodes, although the Athena was not the highest standard of accomodation it was without doubt the most fun, enjoyable and welcoming. Socrates, Alex, George and Peroclees (sorry If I have mis spelt this !!??) are a lovely family, work very hard and are very very charming.
Disappointing accommodation
We just returned from two weeks at the Lindos Athena. We were both so disappointed with this hotel. Air conditioning costs 40 euros a week but never worked properly and couldn't get the room below 26C. This appeared to be a common problem at the hotel with other guests as well. I complainted twice but the problem wasn't sorted. Each person is provided with 1 pillow and staff are reluctant to provide additional ones. One day we had not been given any towels and on a second day were left with just 1 towel. Ants were a major problem in our room. General basic repairs seemed to be avoided i.e. electric sockets hanging off the wall, shower rail bent and ready to collapse. The towel rail was bent and kept falling apart. The pool is quite nice but the loungers were extremely cheap and uncomfortable. Lindos is lovely but there are several far nicer places to stay.
Ignore may o6 review!!!!
I visit lindos practically every year and have enjoyed it every time. this time was no exception. The staff were friendly and made everyone feel extremely welcome. The journey into lindos itself is a two minute walk and if you're too lazy for that the taxi costs a mere 4 euros which the hotel staff are willing to arrange for you. The pool may be small but the accomodation itself does not hold that many people. There is no need for a bigger pool. I recommend this hotel for anyone up for a good time. The staff don't just look after you in the hotel but outside of it too. I will be returning in the not so distant future and I am disappointed to hear someone say bad things about it!!!! Rachael
Loved the Lindos Athena
I stayed at the Lindos Athena in 2005 and will be returning there again this year. I am writing this review as while searching I came across the fairly negative review written by the Welsh couple and I was really surprised. I have also holidayed in Lindos for many years and have stayed in many apartments and the one other hotel available (which is also in the area just outside the village). As most experienced travellers will be aware Greece is renound for it's poor accomodation. This is mainly due to the very strict planning permission which applies to many areas of the country, Lindos particularly as it is filled with such old and historical buildings and attractions (the beautiful church, the bars set in houses which are centuries old, the acropolis to name a few). For this reason no building can take place in the village and no-where in the village has a swimming pool! The Lindos Athena is a newly built hotel and the frame which is next to it may not look nice in the Summer, unfortunately Greek builders cannot build in this heat as their cement melts! However, I asked when I was there and there is a development underway. The rooms and the hotel grounds are the nicest and cleanest I have experienced in Lindos. The staff - and many of this does include family of the owner, are warm and welcoming people. The fact the owner was seen and known by name highlights how involved and friendly they are! I hope that this review will encourage you to visit Lindos as those who do tend to go again and again, as it is a beautiful and welcoming place which the brochures cannot do justice! (ps. the hotel is a 10 minute walk at most (1km), there is a hill (which is very short, although admittedly steep) but the views over the bay as you walk down it are worth it each night. You can always get a donkey on the way back up!!)
Not Keena on the Athena
My wife and I have visited Lindos on a number of occasions and stayed at at the Lindos Athena Hotel (really s/c apartments) as it is owned by the well known Lindian character Socrates who owns Socrates Bar in Lindos town, which is one of our favourites, who told us he was 'building the best accommodation in the village'. It isn't, and on the whole we were very disappointed. The hotel /apartments themselves are not in fact in Lindos, but in an area called Krana which is on a plateau high above Lindos village accessed via a very steep hill and across the busiest road in Rhodes. Krana is effectively one big building site, and whilst it is away from the hustle and bustle of Lindos, the journey at night is dark and the access road very uneven. The promised view of the Lindian acropolis is very distant from the hotel and can't be viewed from the pool or most of the rooms. We felt that the hotel's website is unrepresentative of the hotel and omits the surrounding views because they are very poor. The pool is also pretty poor, being very small and adjacent to the concrete skeleton of an unfinished building which has been awaiting completion for 10 years (visible on the website). Whilst we were there there was also a lot of noise coming from building work on new villas which will overlook the pool area when completed (probably ready now). The rooms are basic, but comfortable enough and well serviced, but the pool bar area is a bit rough and cramped, and the grounds have a general air of neglect despite this being a new hotel. The pool bar staff are all related to Socrates and are quite young and had a tendancy to use the hotel as their personal playground with residents usually vacating the pool area around 5pm as the bar staff and friends would horse around, playing fotball, jumping in the pool and generally making a lot of noise. We also witnessed some guests moved from their table on the barbecue evening so Socrates' family and personal guests from Lindos could sit in their preferred seats.. On the plus side, the staff are very friendly and there is a small but well stocked supermarket next door. There is a restaurant on site, but we did not use it. We are returning to Lindos this year, but will not use this hotel again as there are better situated and better value hotels in and around Lindos.
