We stayed for a week in a basic caravan (cheapest) and it was lovely. Very clean, heaters in all the rooms (it was a little chilly because we had quite a bit of rain while we were there), microwave. The park itself is in a lovely location very picturesque. There was a family atmosphere about the place - we felt very safe. The staff were very friendly in reception and the shop which is very well stocked. We didn't use the clubhouse we used to sit in the beer garden at The Ship Inn in Pentewan Village (5 minutes over the bridge) our children made some little friends to play with and the entire place just felt very safe. We visited Mevagissey and Charlestown which are nearby and also took a trip to Lizard Point - although there isn't much there we had a lovely cornish cream tea in the little cafe. We visited the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek which I thought was very expensive - three tanks full of seals and thats about it for £30!

To sum up Pentewan Sands is a lovely safe family holiday park the only reason I haven't given it a 10 is because the actual beach is very gritty and we had to buy little swim shoes for the kids because it hurt their feet!

Highly recommended!!

I'm not a fan of holiday camps but was talked into this by my wife who is. We hired a static caravan for the week and whilst I haven't changed my mind for the most part, I have specifically for Pentewan Sands. It was simply the best holiday I've had in years.

The location is superb and having the semi-private beach just 2 minutes walk away made it worth every penny. It's not got the cheapest rates but I don't regret paying it.

The beach is gently sloping so the kids can get out quite a distance and it's got some rock pools in a cove to the right of the beach for crabbing. Only downside is that it's coarse sand for a lot of it and a bit painful to walk across in parts. Right hand side of beach seems to have the finer sand and was much better. Not hugely busy and lots of space for sunbathing, games, etc.

Very much a family orientated and water sports place. Probably about 75% tent and touring caravan, rest of it static hire. Our caravan was clean, tidy and functional with all amenities necessary. Good heated pool and kids pool but very busy and popular.

Evening entertainment was good with a different act every night. 7.30 - 8.45 was kids hour with some kids entertainers, on-site staff playing games, etc. 8.45 - 10.00 was bingo time (reached a £320 full house one night) and then a grown-up act from 10.00 till about 11.30 (still suitable for kids although late in the evening) and then a late night disco (never saw as we have 2 young children).

Pentewan village is just some houses and the Ship Inn. I'd recommend using the pub for a meal(s) out. Food, service and price were excellent. Unlike the on-site pub restaurant which was only just about acceptable. Access to the pub, can be gotten from the left hand side of the beach across a small bridge. Or from the main road - village turn off.

Generally good access from Pentewan to rest of Cornwall although St Austell is a bit of a pain to get through and not much to visit. They have got a good Wetherspoons pub in the middle for a decent pint and meal though. Also a Tesco and Asda superstore for a shop.

All I can finally say is that before we'd left, the wife and kids were asking when we could go back. And even this holiday camp hater wouldn't mind another visit.

Pentewan Sands is a fantastic campsite on its own private beach. The facilities are excellent, including an outdoor swimming pool - although with the beach that close it doesn't really matter.

There is a pub in Pentewan village called The Ship Inn, the food is amazing but be sure to get there early as it does get busy, although the Fish and Chip Shop on site was a great meal one evening while walking along the beach. Of course, when the weather is good you can't beat cooking on the BBQ with a glass of wine (or cider), in the great outdoors.

While we were there we visited The Eden Project, which is not very far from the campsite and I would definitely recommend a visit.

Be sure to complete the walk from Pentewan along the Coastal path to Mevagissey Harbour, the views are stunning and the walk is well worth it.

My parents have just come back from spending a week in one of the static caravans during the October Half term and they have already booked to go again next year!
