You get what you pay for. been to perissa twice before. and believe me i'am a grumpy old sod. But this was one of the best holidays we have ever had, Hey.. i did not pay 5 star prices the staff are all very friendly and helpfull. We met some great people from Halifax. Gateshead, Sunderland.Scotland. Battle Hill, infact everyone that where there the last two weeks in september were warm and friendly as a result we are having a reuion same time same place 2009 come and join us i promise you will enjoy yourselves. yes i have read the horror stories about letting the bath water out and toilet waste coming back up through the plug hole.
which suprises me because they are two different waste systems. i do agree when you pull the bath plug out, your bath water comes up through your shower waste, so you soon learn to only pull the plug half way out and let the water out slowly. 2 inch plug 1inch pipe.........think about it.......god only knows what you've been doing in the bath for effluent to be coming up the plug hole.
see ya all in 2009 Marcos has booked
North and South the Greek Dancers who will be Performing Live on thier Simmer Frames.

I agree with most of the reviews. the hotel is very shabby indeed and in need of some serious refurbishing, but you get what you pay for, it was a last minute holiday very cheap £208 each for my wife and i for 2 weeks self catering in July, the pool is small but not many people used it while we were there. The pool bar was very popular in the evening with friendly guests and staff and normally open until around 3am. we never cooked anything at all while we were there but some people did and we used to have a good laugh seeing people swapping tin openers for bottle openers cutlery for plates etc.
The island itself is lovely 12 mile long and 6 mile wide with some stunning views, we hired a quad bike for a week and saw the whole island at least twice, we must have been the oldest bikers on the island as we are both in our sixties. If you are thinking of going to Santorini dont let the comments about the hotel put you off, if your looking for a cheap holiday then this is good value for your money, i would have no hesitation in going again and YES to the same hotel, as long as you remember it is Greece and not Spain you will cope very well.

Spent 2 weeks here and can honestly say this is by far the friendliest hotel we have stayed in, nothing is too much trouble for them.
However it is also the dirtiest hotel we have stayed in and it is way overdue for some serious money to be spent on it.
Our room was spacious but the bathroom was awful. The toilet had never been cleaned until i took bleach too it.
The aircon which we paid for extra went no were near to cooling the room down.
The utensils, cups, pans were filthy we never used any of them at all.
Our beds were comfy enough but the sheets were grey and threadbare and looked dirty even though they werent, and as for the towels, the notice board had the cheek to tell you not to use them as floor cloths when obviously thats what they had previously been used for.
We appreciate that Greek accomodations are basic and you dont get little things like a proper bath or shower but there is no excuse for a place to not be clean this to me is paramount and the saying that you here often is "you are in Greece this is how it is" well no im sorry it isnt for me especcially as this hotel could be lovely. While ever we carry on going to some of these hotels then no real money will be spent on them to improve them.
A few of the guests staying there were freebie guests who because they have got friendly with the owner over a time they are given free accomodation. Wether they got the better rooms i dont know but we certainly didnt.
At the moment this place certainly isnt for the guests who have experienced nice hotels.

If you are expecting 5* accommodation...

Oct 2007, Mr D Livingstone

If you are expecting 5* accommodation for 1* prices, don't go here. If you want basic with a friendly, generous host, a small pool, well stocked bar, great location, this could be for you. 2 minute amble to the Main St or beach with some nice places to eat and drink on either. (The Volcano, The Forum, Scirocco, News bar and Dorians, our favourites.)
Very big 'gritty' beach and slippery entering the sea. A lot of places let you use the beds and brollies if you buy the occasional drink throughout the day.
Not the prettiest Greek island, but one of the most spectacular with some amazing views and scenery. I don't think there is much for 'bored easily' kids, but for adults who just want to chill, then this could be the island. Met some lovely friendly people and might even break a habit of never returning to the same place twice by coming back here.
We would certainly go back to Villa Markos so long as he doesn't change too much to accommodate the moaners.

I agree with the reviews of 2006....

Sep 2007, Mrs S Bellingham

I agree with the reviews of 2006. Nothing has changed. Bed Linen is threadbare and grey and it wasn't changed all week. The towels are only fit for the floor. Air conditioning was charged at 40 euros for the week but didn't cool the room. You couldn't self cater with the equipment provided in the room which was both insufficient and grubby.
It's in a very good location in the resort which made up for all that it lacked. Do hire a car to see the island, suggest you book it direct with Anka which is the company recommended by our rep. The office is at the top of the road and booking direct, rather than through the rep saved 50% of cost.

We all know that Greek accommodation...
5 / 10
Jul 2007, peez

We all know that Greek accommodation is generally basic but these studios left a lot to be desired...
The location of these studios was excellent being just a stone’s throw from the beach, shops and restaurants but not pleasant to stay in.
The room was extremely small and well past a refit. The rooms were 'cleaned' daily but the sheets and towels were well past their best, holey and threadbare and the toilet was still dirty after 'cleaning', in need of some serious bleach.
The kitchen was unsuitable for anyone wishing to self cater with limited equipment and a fridge which I had to switch off at night as the motor was so loud it was impossible to sleep with.
The balcony/terrace was overlooked by both our neighbours and the owners house, which accompanied by the Greek family's arguments and loud music didn't make for a relaxing holiday.
The pool is very small and really not safe for children to be around as the sunbeds line the pool right up to the edge making it unsafe to walk around.
The resort of Perissa and the whole of Santorini was lovely and we would recommend it anyone but please check reviews to get some better accommodation.

Perissa is a great resort, however...

Sep 2006, Jackie Seager

Perissa is a great resort, however not as clean as it has been before. Great beach (volcanic), very good selection of places to eat.
Only thing that let the holiday down was the accommodation. Whilst we appreciate that Greek plumbing leaves a lot to be desired, we did not like having the contents of the pipes coming up through the bathroom floor every time we used a tap, be it in the kitchen, bathroom or shower. Although our rep told the owner he did nothing about this and it was obvious it had been happening for a long time as the bottom of the bathroom door was rotten. Basic is a polite description of this accommodation!
Do go to Santorini, it is well worth a visit.
