Golden Thistle Hotel

What a huge disappointment! I visited Golden Thistle almost 10 years ago and my stay there was pleasant enough so I decided to book there again for a family getaway. First of all you cannot book here by credit card but have to make a bank deposit which is very inconvenient in this day and age. When I arrived I was horrified to discover that nothing had been upgraded in the hotel room for the past 10 years, even the linen looked the same. The television set was outdated and did not work properly. The refrigerator and the A/C did not work... more

I have been to Tobago for the last ten years, and this facility is the worst I ever stayed in. When we checked in on Carnival Friday night, my two sisters, my two year old son and I were given a room to the back with NO window. It was smelly and cramped. When we asked why this room, they lied and said this is the only room with double beds. The rep. then said if we wanted to change rooms, we will have to pay $ 800.00 tt more!! Then a guy at the counter told my sister only $ 300.00 more. Imagine the house keeping does not do... more

The fact that no one we asked knew the location of the place suggested that it was not one of the nicest places in Tobago. We had to drive down a mud track to find the hotel but at first glance it didn't seem so bad. Tobago itself is such a paradise but this hotel made my stay very unpleasant. There was no microwave in the appartment, the fridge door fell down on trying to open it and the curtains were hanging over the stove. Once again I arrived in the night but this time the owner was awaiting my arrival. I was truly pleased with that. So checking in went smoothly. Although this hotel is a little off the main road, it is conveniently located near the airport, Store Bay, a mini-mall and restaurants. The place has great potential. I have stayed in Golden Thistle about 4 times, since 2001. We found out about it when we were looking for a cheap place to stay over Carnival weekend to escape since we werent playing mas. That first time was very acceptable. The place was very clean, very quiet, and the staff was pleasant. Every other time we went was the same except last year, which was SO quiet that I felt scared. Thanks soo much to the new management at Golden Thistle!! This quiet and tucked away gem is great for families. It is close to EVERYTHING!!! we didn't even have to rent a car! the Staff were so pleasant and helpful!. Thanks Mr. Callender!

Golden Thistle Hotel is tucked cosily down a quiet , picturesque lane yet so close to everything on this tranquil, unspoilt island - airport,restaurant, car rentals, banks, clothes and gift shopping boutiques, as well as groceries. My one year old and I stayed at the Golden Thistle hotel, I got a room only because some one cancelled their reservaation but was glad I stayed there. They had all the basics, cable Tv, hold and cold water, bath tub, self contained, AC, pool, friendly staff...I am already planning a second trip. It was only 50 us nightly and they had a maid service...could not complain.
