Ye Olde Plough House Hotel

We had our wedding at the Plough House in May with 50 guests. I must admit I was a little bit worried after reading these reviews but we had an absolutely great time. The service is great and they took care of us and our families in a very professional manner. The gardens are absolutely stunning and a great plus to have family and friends stay in the same place for some time, which gives everyone time to get to know each other better. Good point (note, point, singular), it was clean, and thats the main thing I like. It's basic. The room was very clean, and looked freshly decorated. However, there was no desk to use, no hair-dryer (surely a basic), no towel rail. We stayed there after a wedding reception. I recently attended a family wedding here and stayed overnight with my partner. Definite plus point for me was the location – the grounds were picturesque and the venue for the reception itself (called The Barn) was lovely. The staff were polite and professional and also very helpful to my elderly aunt who has mobility problems. Stayed at this hotel as it was on the list of recommended hotels for a some friends' wedding. When they get back from their honeymoon they are in BIG trouble. To begin with, look closely... on most of the documentation this place calls itself The Olde Plough House (hmmm how quaint, perhaps family run, rustic and charming I am sure...) but look further and it is in fact a motel. Fine. Some motels are fine. But picture the kind of motel you see in movies when the bad guy has made it across the border and is hiding out in a hell hole... more
