I cannot rate this place enough. The first time I went was on business and the staff were so friendly, the food was brilliant and the atmosphere was so homely. I decided to take my wife back as they have a small restaurant and the menu looked amazing when I went.

I booked in on the Friday night and because my wife is a bit nosey had a look round and there was a wedding party in the gardens, and she went to look through the window of the reception room, and she starting getting all teary eyed! But I had to agree with her, it just looked stunning.

The room was fine very comfortable and a reasonable price, but we upgraded to an executive the next night and it was a very very good room which I would recommend to anyone.

The Friday night in the small restaurant was very good, food service decor everything was spot on. Saturday breakfast, the lady who served us was just so friendly and even though it looked very busy she was still very efficient.

One thing I must mention is I was so shocked to read the other review on this site as I also dealt with Alison Rodwell and she was great! But I also had the pleasure of seeing a rather drunk man being quite rude to some of her staff and she of course defended her staff. If you’re looking for a free ride of to be one of those unpleasant people at a hotel, don’t come here because the management won’t stand for it, which is a relief for the majority of us!

All in all brilliant place in the country. So much so, I am taking the family there for Christmas!

I was taking my partner away for a night so we could have a romantic evening but when we arrived at our hotel room we were shocked. The main problem was the fact that the accommodation was not up to an appropriate standard. There was a dead insect on the pillow when we arrived, the bed which we had to sleep on, was uncomfortable and every time you moved it squeaked every time keeping us awake and then the following morning there was no hot water for a shower.

I spoke with the receptionist upon check out, but she was un-helpful to resolve the matter. I didn’t get her name at the time. She did not apologise and told me she would get it checked and call me later.

I did not receive a phone call from her regarding this matter so I tried to contact the hotel that afternoon and asked for the manager but she was unavailable and was told she would now not be in until Tuesday. I again tried Tuesday and again she was not available so I tried again Thursday morning and was told she would not be in till after 10:30am. I called back later in the afternoon and tried to explain the situation to Alison Rodwell the manager which is when I found out she was the woman on the reception the morning I checked out. She was again rude to me on the phone and it took her a long while until she finally gave me an apology. I said I wanted to know the outcome of her sending someone down to take a look at the room. She said she had sent her maintenance man and housekeeper and they both said there were no problems and implied that I must be lying. This made me very upset. I said we wanted a full refund for the problems we encountered and for the distress and disappointment we suffered as a result.

She said all she could do was offer a good will gesture of £10 I was expecting at least half of what I had paid.

I then sent a letter to the Top Manager of the hotel and got a very very rude reply. Basically saying she was not going to even bother doing anything.

Just to warn people to stay away from this horrible place
