Thornton Hall Classic Hotel

We had the worst hotel stay of our lives, although we had a 5 month old in a pram and we had booked a double with a cot we were given a twin room on the first floor. There was no lift and so we had to struggle up the stairs with the baby. There was no cot in the room, and although one was brought when asked, we had to struggle to put it together ourselves. We then had to request bedding separately and were given the choice of a single or double bed sheet, there were no blankets for baby who had to sleep with a towel over her.
In the commotion of getting baby, pram and cot up stairs and into our tiny room, some of the other residents had been disturbed and when my poor sister arrived with her baby to face the same fate (stairs, no cot etc) a woman from a neighbouring room came out to shout at us, call us animals and tell us that we were unfit mothers. There was very nearly a fight and Hotel security had to be called.
The next morning we tried to take our children swimming in the pool, only to be informed on arrival that children under 6 weren't allowed in the pool, and those over 6 had to swim only on the right side of the pool so as not to disturb the members (even though the pool was empty). We had bought special and expensive swimming nappies for the babies and the children had already seen the pool, and were devastated that they were not allowed to enter. What ridiculous rules?
The hotel staff were at all times friendly and helpful and when we complained we were given a 50% discount on our bill, however that was small compensation considering that our short break had been completely ruined.
