Reviews of New York Helmsley Hotel E42nd Steet, New York City

Nice quality hotel with very helpful lobby staff. The city had a taxi strike during our visit and doorman worked really hard to secure transport back to airport for us - thank you.



Good location and great views from the front rooms to the Chrysler Building. The hotel is a short walk to the magnificent Grand Central Station and NY Subway system. Easy access also to Central Park, UN, Times Square, shops and all the buzz of NYC.



The hotel is certainly one to recommend - my only slight reservation is that the beds in our particular room were a little smaller than I expected in US and the room needs another mirror for ladies' hair and make-up evolutions.

Stayed at this hotel for 6 nights during new year and I cannot rate this hotel enough...absolutely 1st class.



Me, my mum and my 3yr old son travelled, flew with BA and booked the room with ebookers.



If you are planning a trip to NYC this hotel is an excellent choice. Location is second to none, handy tip...there is a 24hr deli 2 mins away, come out of the hotel turn right to the corner then take another right turn, sells anything you could possibly need.



There is a GAP store just to the left of the hotel, spent a few $'s there, grand central station is 5 mins away and only a 15 min walk to Times Sq.



The rooms are grand, clean and extremely comfortable...especially the beds! Room service is reasonable considering the huge portions. Beware of the cocktails, knock your head off!



Within 1 week of returning I had rebooked the hotel again for April, can't wait to return.



P.S This hotel is the best of the Helmsley chain and I can honestly say I did not see a hotel in NYC I’d rather stay at.

This is my second trip to this most fabulous city, this time we changed hotels and it was worth it.



The rooms are large and very comfortable, Harrys bar in the hotel is good, the staff very friendly. But for good food at it's very best try the Pax deli next door, is worth a try and it will not break the bank.



We took a direct flight this time with Delta Airlines a company I have not travelled with before, but again well worth it. Food very good, flight attendants could not be more helpful leg room very good. We will be booking again for 2007 I hope I can go with Delta again.



While there you have to go and see the Christmas tree at the Rockafeller Centre and turn round to see the Saks department store, with the snow flakes on the outside that go on and off to a Christmas carol, walk down to Time Square and visit Maceys.



They say it is the largest store there they are not wrong, you can spend an entire day walking round.



Not to forget the window displays Maceys, Saks and Lord and Taylor are the best.



Enjoy, you can tell that I am totally hooked on this City.

We first stayed here in Feb 2004 when our original hotel had overbooked and we were allocated to this one. What a find! We had a fantastic, large room with all mod-cons. We have stayed here 4 times since then and always request a higher floor room because the views are fantastic, particularly at night, and particularly from the back of the hotel.



The only thing that lets it down is the restaurant which is a touch expensive, especially for breakfast when there's a fantastic cafe right next door who serve all manner of things for very little money. There are far too many places to eat in New York so it's a shame to eat in the hotel!



The bar is great for early evening drinks and free nibbles - good atmosphere. The concierge is very helpful, always books us a limo back to the airport; as are reception staff (free apples too!).



Room service is good - we've done that a couple of times when we've come back from the theatre a little peckish. ATM in foyer is handy. Hotel is extremely well situated on 42nd street but far enough away to be quiet. Rooms are good size with typically huge American sized beds. Love the place and will definitely stay there again soon.
