" Excellent stuff - ignore the moaners.... "

Excellent stuff - ignore the moaners.

My fiancée and I spent two weeks in the Florida and although initially a bit bemused/disappointed, left very happy indeed.

We went in October last year, and took this as we wanted a very cheap 2-week break in Italy. After paying, we Googled the hotel and came across various sites, with people complaining and scare-mongering about their 'horrible' experiences. This left me very apprehensive about my holiday, where I had planned to 'pop the question', but after staying here it seems it's more the social attitude of those that had bad experiences as opposed to the hotel's fault - I think one reviewer even complains about other guests?! :o)

On arrival, we left our luggage in the foyer and were lead to the dining room, which they'd kept open long after the usual dining time. The hotel has a reasonable-sized simple dining room, but because of the number of guests, they put four people to a table (unless they're in a larger family group), so couples are placed with couples. This was a bit of a shock on our first night as we were hoping to spend the holiday together as you would normally. However, this was such a great idea and brought a real sense of bonding with the other guests. Each night at dinner we'd discuss what we each did and what we had planned, swapping tips from destinations to cheaper travel etc on all the visits we were looking at, so turned out to probably be better than usual.

Staff were excellent - always willing to help with a smile and all clearly born entertainers - it worries me that one person found them intimidating, but then they seemed to have a problem with everything (why you wouldn't tell a rep about any problems before someone was injured is beyond me?!). :oD If they weren't trying to teach you how to say simple Italian greetings, they'd be having jokes and playing games if you so wished.

Food - Each night with your dinner, you'd receive a menu for the next evening with a choice of three starters and main courses, so there's always a variety to choose from. This is then accompanied by all the side dishes at the buffet and followed by a desert. All drinks are separate and need to be paid for with your meal (although very reasonable). Although the food isn't Michelin-award-winning, it's very good and the amount they'll serve you up will leave you stuffed until breakfast, ruining your diet forever - you need to tell them to stop or they'll keep serving you. :oD
If you weren't leaving the hotel for lunch, there was an excellent lunchtime menu which you paid for at the bar and if you were out for the evening, they would also swap your paid evening meal for a packed lunch, which you could then take with you on your excursion. Breakfast was usual continental stuff - cereals, bread, ham, cheese, fruit, etc.

Rooms - quite basic, but at the end of the day it's the place where you sleep - you've not gone all the way on holiday to sit in a room watching TV...have you? Ours had a double bed, desk and chair, two bedside tables, a double wardrobe, colour TV, shower, sink, toilet, bidet and wallsafe. Cleaned every day to a high level.

Lovely pool by the bar with plenty of loungers and tables to eat at - even in October it was a warm enough for a swim.

Once a week, the hotel puts on a modest Gala night, with some dinner-time fun and music afterwards to help you unwind and have some fun.

Although the majority of guests were older than ourselves, we still felt there was plenty on offer in the local area - even at the end of the season.

Town - not too far a walk, and the bus stop was literally outside the hotel and went straight into town for next to nothing. Train station very close by allows travel all over the area and even with really bad Italian phrases, we managed to get trains and buses to destinations further than Naples.

Complaints - there was only one complaint that we were aware of during our whole two weeks and this was regarding the heating (believe it or not). There had been bad weather during the 2nd week with snow actually on the mountains. It was a freak weather change not experienced by the staff in many years and as such it had become too cold for some of the residents, but the manager didn't seem to happy about having to put the hotel heating on overnight. This however was very quickly resolved once the rep was involved.

I think the main thing to bear in mind is that if you've got a cheap holiday in Sorrento then you're going to get a cheapish hotel. This is a great hotel and definitely not one to be worried about. If you're expecting a five-star, for the money you've paid...well that's your own fault. :o)

" We arrived on the Friday night about... "

We arrived on the Friday night about 5ish. Hotel looked clean and pristine from the foyer but the rooms were a great disappointment, however if you just want a standard bed and base to come back to, it is fine. Cleanliness was borderline for us.

We did have a huge balcony though and as we had our 3 yr old with us it was handy as we could put her to bed and sit outside and have a drink in the evenings.

Lots of people on other forums complained about the food, there is nothing wrong with the food! It is standard ordinary food. If you want gourmet meals book a 5 star hotel.

This holiday was also full of the Sandal and Sock brigade (50-75yrs+) my 3 yr old didn't really go down very well with them and to be honest the whole holiday was not really suitable for her.

There is lots of sightseeing to be done and places to visit. I think she was bored a lot of the time. The pool is really deep and not suitable for young kids either. There was also loud music 2 nights running and she is normally in bed by 7.30-8.00pm. Trying to push a pushchair down the streets is a virtual impossibility due to narrow pavements cluttered with big lampposts and trees.

We did not know that this resort was not child friendly and I would highly recommend that you do not bring children under the age of 8-10yrs here. Noise, excursions, pool, rooms, and the sock and sandal brigade are all unsuitable things at this hotel.

The staff are professional and not unfriendly as previous posters have said. The staff have a job to do and they do it well. The Italians love kids and they went out of their way to accommodate our daughter.

If you are a couple or on your own and want a good honest touring base with standard food and accommodation then this is fine, don't be put off by the other reviews. This hotel and resort is just not suitable for young kids. We made a bad choice.
