We arrived on the Friday night about 5ish. Hotel looked clean and pristine from the foyer but the rooms were a great disappointment, however if you just want a standard bed and base to come back to, it is fine. Cleanliness was borderline for us. We did have a huge balcony... more

A wonderful, magical holiday in Sorrento
from Prickles
We have just returned from two weeks holiday staying at the Florida Hotel in Sant Angello, Sorrento. We had a great stay there, whilst the hotel is only small, 37 rooms, it is lovely and the ideal place to stay to explore the sights and sounds of Italy. The rooms are spotless and were cleaned every day. The staff were all very friendly and we had a great time there. Smashing pool and as it is not a big hotel there were always plenty of sun beds around the pool, which is first class. There is a small beach some 800 metres away, but as all beaches along this coast line it is not a sandy stretch of beach and you have to pay to go on it, but the pool made up for this. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone who wants to stay in a small friendly hotel - as with any stay abroad there is bound to be noise and traffic, but that is to be expected and as we went in August the schools were all closed and so it was extra quiet - it is a lovely place and we will certainly go back there again. The walk into the centre of Sorrento took about 20 minutes, but it is a very pleasant walk, although you must take care of the busy road. Thank you Hotel Florida and all your lovely staff for making our stay great.
Lovely little hotel
from piglet76
We stayed at the Florida hotel last week and I must say I wasn't really looking forward to it after reading some of the reviews on here!! But we had a lovely time, our room was away from the main hotel and was kind of like a little chalet at the back of the grounds, it was very clean and was cleaned everyday and we were given fresh towels daily. Outside our room were olive, lime, lemon and orange trees which made for a lovely view. Our room was very hot but you could hire a fan from the hotel for 3 euros per day but they didn't charge us for it at the end of our stay! The pool area was nice and clean as well the only downside was the children jumping in and splashing people that were trying to sunbathe. The food was ok at the hotel, not the best and I wouldn't really say it was very authentic but there are some very nice bars/restaurants closeby. The Terrace Bar in particular (about a 10 minute walk) is lovely and if you go in the evening you get to watch the sunset over the sea - lovely!!! We visited pompeii and vesuvius while we were there and also did Capri by night and the Amalfi drive - all very well recommended and organised by our rep.. All in all a very nice holiday and we will definately be returning.

Stayed at the Hotel Florida Sant Agenello in May 06.The hotel was fine it has a good swimming pool,a Lemon grove garden and on the whole very nice. The rooms seem to be all twin beds with either 2 or 3 beds in the room, there are enough cupboards and wardrobe space for all your clothes, you do get a wall safe included into the holliday price but a fairly basic room and there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms only in the main dining and public areas of the hotel so I should think later on in the year it would be too hot to sleep without having the outside balcony doors openThe hotel is in quite a built up area with other hotels close by it is off a main road which gets busy, the bus stop is nearby but should you wish to walk into Sorrento you have about 100mtrs of walking along this road where there is no pathway the walk takes about 15 mins to get to the centre of Sorrento. The meals in the hotel are the normal in so much as bread rolls jam ect for breakfast cold meats and cheese this is help yourself so there is enough on offer to fill you up till lunch time. The evening meals are waiter served and you get a choice of about 3 different items so 3 starters 3 main coarse and then there is normally cake or fruit to finish off, you pay as you go for drinks at the end of each meal, on Tuesday evening there was a 7.30 start for the meal which was around the swimming pool and there was a couple of local entertainers singing and playing keyboards. On the whole fine all round but was disapointed due to the very few beaches and the area being so built up,the Itiailans seem to start work very early and there is road noise, when booking this hotel it states 800mtrs from the beach I never found it I suppose it is a good location if you wish to see Capri,Pompeii and all the other historic places easy to get around on the trains and bus wouldnt recommend driving as the roads are narrow blind bends and crazy drivers.
Beware

Our room was direclty next to reception, noisy in evening when trying to sleep. Also found my jewelry missing when arrived home, no time at airport for it to be stolen because we arrived late due to Italian traffic so either staff stole it from room or the luggage was not secure whilst waiting for return flight. Food not so good either
Where's the Hotel?

You get what you expect from a 3 star hotel really - standard accomodation which is very clean and good meals (although very much caters for the 'English palette'!). We are a young fit couple but some people may not like the location as it is a good 20 minute walk to the centre of Sorrento and involves walking along some busy stretches of road. One drawback we experienced was the noise - tiled floors and paper-thin walls lead to a less than peaceful nights sleep and the brochure omits to acknoweledge that there is a school over the road which is not great for those holiday lie-ins!!! If you have booked this hotel from the Airtours brochure 2005 please be aware they have the wrong photo - the main picture is NOT of the Hotel Florida in Sorrento!
A magical holiday
from ItalianFan53
I stayed at the Hotel Florida for a week with three friends and found the hotel to be good value for money, friendly staff and exceptionally clean. I think that the breakfast could have been changed at least three times during our stay but the lunches were particularly good. The evening meal seemed more rushed. The pool area is very clean and there were plenty of sunbeds. This area was very quiet and well looked after although we would have liked the pool to have stayed open longer than 6.00pm. The owners were very helpful and the wife speaks excellent English. It was fairly easy to get into Sorrento town and the bus stop and taxi rank are just outside the hotel. If you want a good but fairly expensive day out then it is worth considering hiring a driver to take you on the Amalfi drive. This can be exceptionally busy in high season but the taxi is more comfortable. We also went to Capri but found this very busy. It is quite simple to do the trips yourself and not to go on the organised outings which were double the price. All in all and excellent little hotel which lived up to expectations and was very good value for money.
the best 'little hotel' in Sorrento

We have just returned from 1 week holiday at the Hotel Florida and would recommend it anyone. a very enjoyable an lovely place to stay. The buffet breakfast and dinner are excellent, also the lunch on the beautiful pool area is good. The pool side is amazing and you can stay on your sunbed all day long relaxing. The staff at the hotel were helpful, friendly and provided a first rate service. The rooms are very nice, and very very clean. The location of the hotel is tranquil and ideal for a very nice holiday. so, i'll come back with friends to Hotel Florida next year.
nice pool area, diabolical breakfast
from A TripAdvisor Member
we stayed here at the beginning of August. There is no air conditioning which made sleeping in temperatures of 30'C really unbearable. The road is busy and noisy and staff/family members sit up 'til 2am or 3am laughing and joking keeping you awake. They also have dogs which start barking and howling at 5am in the morning. The food was ok in the evenings: all home cooked and acceptable although the starters were Italian I would have prefered the main courses not to have been English. The breakfasts were awful. Cheap cereals (tasted like polystyrene chips minus the flavor!!), dry rolls, plastic ham! Same thing every day. The hotel was very clean, the dining room was very nice. We had a nice spacious room which was maintained to an excellent standard. The pool area was the best in that area.
It was lovely

I'm sorry the person above who complained about the noise couldnt have been with us for our weeks holiday. Hotel Florida for a 2 star is fine - no complaints at all. The Hotel is run by a small family of staff who are all very friendly and on hand. Rooms are clean. Food is fine its all home made. Pool side is very clean and quiet. In fact our friends who stayed in a 4 star used to come around every day for a swim and pool side lunch they said it was better than theirs. Would we go back - answer Yes.
Extreme noise
from Umph885
The Hotel Florida is described as being 'tranquil and relaxing' and 'in a quiet residential side street'. This may have been accurate had it not been for the 24-hour open air bar of the hotel next door being approximately 20 feet from my window. I was kept awake by loud music (played constantly for up to 15 hours per day) and noisy drunks every night of my holiday until the early hours of the morning. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, DO NOT go to this hotel (or the Hotel La Pergola situated directly next door which is the source of the noise). In addition to the loud music and the relaxing sound of drunks, you can also expect high levels of traffic noise from a busy road.

Excellent stuff - ignore the moaners. My fiancée and I spent two weeks in the Florida and although initially a bit bemused/disappointed, left very happy indeed. We went in October last year, and took this as we wanted a very cheap 2-week break in Italy. After paying, we... more
