Wonderful holiday. This was the...

Sep 2008, Mrs C Lyes

Wonderful holiday. This was the second time we went, the first being our honeymoon 8 years ago and this time with our two children age 3 & 6. When we used the spa 8 years ago it was the best and I have not used better since, however we did not use the facility this time.
Very clean tidy resort with friendly and helpful staff.
We loved the beach - we are beach types - only stony at one end. Our 6 year old was snorkeling. Pools were great, food fantastic. Rooms basic but good in the local style so don't expect 5* contemporary. There is a good selection of water sports charged separately.
Very easy holiday to have with children. Children very welcome in restaurants this was very important to us since we like to holiday 'with' our children. Has its own private beach, beach towels and sun loungers provided, however were disturbed by the high number of beach hawkers trying to sell to us.
Downsides: We would have used the Mini Club more - so we could use the spa or do some adult water sports, the staff seemed lovely, however with no sign in/out or security on the gate, like we have been used to in the UK with crèche's and holiday clubs we felt it was a little unsecured so did not in the end use the facility more than once.
The shops in the resort are really only catering to the very elite market with children's clothes at Euro 130.00 for a baby dress and Euro 954.00 for the dress I liked in one of the boutiques.
The golf buggies we felt were driven a bit fast and erratic, having to pull our child of 3 out of the way at times, and there were some inconsiderate children on cycles when we visited - one of whom we reported to management who responded quickly with an apology and bottle of Champagne.
Entertainment a bit patchy on some evenings, however the tribute band 'Queen Mania' was the highlight of the holiday evenings and we would see then again if they came to the UK.
The drinks were expensive as expected. We would change some things, we would have liked to see coffee and tea making facilities in the room, we stayed in Il Villagio bungalows.
On the whole we love it there and would definitely go again when we can afford it, but feel 2009 prices are above and beyond what we would pay for this holiday, considering that most of the water sports and other facilities are extra.

Wonderful accommodation, great facilities, and all in the middle of breathtaking scenery.
The sea is just spectacular and in the evenings we were able to choose between going out and having fun in the “village square” or simply stay in our room and just chill out.
We stayed in the Hotel Castello. The hotel staff were excellent, always taking time to help you in any way they can, we wre very impressed, particularly with the Kid Club staff.
The Spa is excellent, and if you can stomach the prices, have a Swedish Massage, there's nothing like it, and if you don't fancy this, just spend a morning in the various pools and saunas and relax a bit.
Sports facilities were very good.

We booked the Forte Resort on the recommendation of our local travel agent for a family holiday (2 adults, 2 children).
We personally found the resort to be a fantastic self-contained holiday location, giving us a chance to live a little of the high-life that we would not normally experience on a summer break. The children had a great time, and the Kids Club could not have been better, allowing us to drop them off at 9am, pick them up for lunch (although a meal at the childrens restaurant can be included at an additional charge), and then back to the club for the afternoon - fantastic for the adults wanting to relax on their holiday rather than exhaust themselves entertaining kids all day.
The two main pools are great, we preferred the Oasis one as it was a bit quieter, but the salt water one was also very good.
The beach is probably the most disappointing part of the resort, stony and not enough sunbeds, but is still OK.
Tennis has excellent facilities, but beware of the prices, free courts but you have to pay for rackets and balls - take your own.
We were very happy with the restaurants. La Pinetta buffet was good, if a little predictable if you went on several occasions, the breakfast at the oasis was good if occasionally busy (they have a lot of conferences at the resort), the Steak Restaurant very good, the Pizza Restaurant at the beach was fantastic during the day (you have to pay for this), and the seafood restaurant at the seafront was excellent to. We ate at the Borgo one night and paid the 75 Euro per person supplement, but, for one night in a resort like this, it was worth it.
We stayed at Le Palme bungalows, very clean, fairly spacious and a great location if you've got kids, all in all what we expected.
The hotel staff were excellent, always taking time to help you in any way they can, we were very impressed, particularly with the Kids Club staff.
The Spa is excellent, and if you can stomach the prices, have a Swedish Massage, there's nothing like it, and if you don't fancy this, just spend a morning in the various pools and saunas and relax a bit.
Over all we were very happy with this trip, and felt that it was worth the expense for the experience.
Finally a few warnings and tips.
There is no getting away from the fact that drinks are expensive, but you can limit the damage by going to the supermarket that is 300 yds right out of the main entrance of the resort. We bought 12ltrs of water and a dozen beers for 10 Euros, when one small beer is 7 Euros in the resort! While we were there the world cup was on and they had a big screen showing the England games, and a guy had a bag with his own beers in it saving him 8 euros a pint. If you've got the front to do it. Use your common sense and pay for expensive drinks in the evenings only.
My biggest tip of all would be to go relatively early (but not too early when some of the facilities are shut) in the season, June ideally, before the Italian holidays kick off, as we were told that it gets incredibly busy. Whilst we were there it was perfect, no queuing and the weather was perfect, warm but with a cooling sea breeze.
In summary, go, but do your research, you'll love it.
