Hotel Villa Nicolli

We stayed for 10 days in early June and the hotel was excellent. The staff were very friendly and very helpful and knew alot of information of things to do and went out of their way to help. Which is why I am really surprised by another reviewer saying not to stay at this hotel as the staff were rude and unhelpful. Surely if we stayed there for 10 days we would have picked up on these vibes? But each to their own. The pool in the hotel is good. Only just returned from 1 week in Riva, Lake Garda staying at the Villa Nicolli and we will not be returning to the hotel nicolli. It is rated as a 4 star but a 3 star rating would be fairer. The rooms are small and ensuite very small. if you are a larger size or over 6ft be careful using the toilet and shower as thier is restricted access to both. I would just like to say at the outset of my rant that I have used TripAdvisor for recommendations at numerous hotels across Italy and have always been delighted with my choice. My family and I stayed for a week in summer of 2006. I felt compelled to right a review after reading the negative comments. I think perhaps they stayed in a different hotel! The one we stayed in was welcoming, organised, clean and beautiful. Our rooms were clean everyday, the food at night and for breakfast was the best we've ever tasted. On arrival at the Hotel we were given a room with a balcony but unfortunately it was sunk into the roof of an extension of a lower floor and therefore was similar to a bunker (room 105). This made the room very dark and dingy. Since we had previously paid extra for a superior room with a balcony and view etc, we immediately asked to change rooms and were given a 2nd floor room facing the pool. This was far better. The hotel is generally okay and the food is good but not exceptional. I agree with previous reviews that you have to get down to the dining room pretty sharpish for the salad and dessert selections but the food in our experience isn't that bad. Our real gripe was the accomodation. They claim that it's a 4 star establishment and if you are in the main hotel it may well be, but clarify (if you can) on booking that you won't be occupying the awful annexe that is adjacent to the hotel. Hotel: Very good. Staff were always very pleasant and helpful. Room was good size and clean. Our air conditioning worked very well. Garden and pool were lovely - very well kept and the pool was very clean. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but there was a good variety and you won't go hungry. Downsides: The reception was often unmanned so you had to wait for your key. The pool faces the wrong way for suntanners - the beds are sometimes in the shade and the sun is behind you. Have just returned from a week's holiday in Riva del Garda. We stayed in the Hotel Villa Nicolli which was absolutely fantastic. It's a 4 star hotel but the service we got deserves 5 stars! As this was going to be the first holiday abroad that my partner and I would share together, we carried out a lot of research on both the resort and the hotel before going. The resort of Riva Del Garda was beautiful, picturesque and everything we could have hoped for, but the Hotel Villa Nicolli was a real disappointment! we booked this short break with friends going on the reports on this site. When we got there the hotel/reception looked very nice, but when we got to our box room in the corner of the hotel, we were very disappointed. The room was very dark and our window was blocked with a roof located right next to the room. We had to have all lights on in the room during day light and night time hours.
