Eleonora Apartments

These are family-run apartments and the atmosphere is extremely friendly.
The apartments are extremely basic, the bathrooms look very dated but in their favour they are clean and the beds are made daily. You can also pay for air conditioning which is well worth it, €7 per day.
The beds are not comfortable at all but the apartments are worth staying in because of their location and the friendly atmosphere.
The closest supermarket is only a 5 minute walk away and the nearest restaurants and tavernas just a couple of minutes further. The beach is a 10 minute walk but I would suggest turning left when you get to the beach and walking a further 5 minutes as there are a couple of really nice bars and restaurants (one of which is Captains) in case you get bored on the beach! There is also a supermarket and a shop which sells English newspapers and magazines.
The closest large town is Hersonossis which is 5 minutes in the taxi and you should expect to pay approximately €9. Lots of bars and restaurants there, though we would definitely suggest going to Hersonossis Old Town which is approximately €15 in the taxi and absolutely stunning - it has a very picturesque square and fantastic restaurants, one of which is called Harakas.
If you are wanting to explore the North and East of Crete, I would recommend staying in Anissaras. Eleonora Apartments are far from luxurious but we met several people on the holiday staying elsewhere who paid a similar amount to us and stayed in far worse accommodation. So long as you expect very basic but clean accommodation, in a quiet area with amenities and the beach close by, you won't be disappointed.
We paid £276 each to stay there for one week (including flights and transfers). Not the cheapest holiday we've had, but a very enjoyable week nevertheless.
