the worst holiday ever!!!
me and my cousin, two 20 year old girls went to turkey to have a good laugh and to relax, when we got there is was the opposite. the room key deactivated itself 5 times throughout the hol and had to keep running from the 3rd floor to reception to allow us in th room. from day one the electric kept cutting out or didnt work at all this lasted throughout the 2 weeks. we had a lot of trouble with some of the staff. they saw two young girls on their own and decided to try and take advantage. mainly it was jake (chief barman) from day one he wouldnt leave us alone and tried it on after we told him toback off. he put other peoples order onto our bill hoping we woulnt find out and made up rumours about us to everyone nad not nice one either! after that we told him to stay away and after a few days got the message.the receptionist man hit us across the face and undid my cousins bikini top infront of everytone. she was mortified, after complaining to th hotel staff nothin was sorted and carried on.it go to the point where we didnt want to be in the resort anymore.we stayed away for a couple of days but things didnt get any better. we didnt get the rep involved as it was the hotel we had problems with but when we did speak with her it finally got sorted, shame it was at the end of the holiday. if you are going to turkey, especially with young girls please be careful and dont leave them, we are lucky that were not soft and gave them what for. this is my second time to turkey and the first time was the best holiday ive ever been on, this holiday is by far the worst holiday. we are just very dissapointed that for a 4 star hotel and the problems we had encountered with was just not acceptable.
Once is enough
I visited with my teenage daughter, as my sister, her kids and a friend were already holidaying there. the apartment was clean, the maid service was very good. The staff were very friendly, but I found them to be intrusive, as they would regularly sit down with us, which was ok at first but then after a while I found it annoying. They were very helpful though and always cheerful and polite. Music around the pool area was played constantly which is ok if you are into that. Our group was divided on this issue, as I wanted peace and quiet but they liked it. The food was basic but ok. As for Gumbet itself, I found it tacky, and stressful walking through the main street of cafes, restaurants, shops and bars etc. every inch of the way we were spoken to by various vendors, almost agressively trying to entice us to eat, drink or shop in their respective establishments. This, combined with frantic dancing and loud music in almost every restaurant and bar where everyone is expected to clap like performing seals over and over again made me feel like I was going mad. In many of the restaurants they serve a combination of chips, mashed potato, rice, vegetables and salad alongside anything you choose to order from the main menu which really put me off the food. It is almost as if they are all trying too hard to please and give the largely british tourists what they think we want, so as a result their own, fine, cultural aspects are lost in a sea of chips, mash, lager and pop music.
A Real Gem
Couldn't believe how nice it was for the price! 3 single girls went for 7 days out of season in May. We'd seen other reviews on Trip advisor and used them as a basis to book this hotel and must say thanks for the good advice. The hotel is fairly new (built only 4 years ago), with friendly staff, decent food and very clean everywhere, rooms are basic (not that good for cooking) but the showers are great. As we went out of season it was quiet but the staff told us they have games in the pool and party nights during the busy season. The staff were all very friendly (but knew their boundaries unlike some Turkish men) and went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming to all guests. They invited one guest to play football with them against another local team. Had a Turkish bath at the start of the holiday in the spa connected to the hotel, don't pay for the massage straight away as they'll discount it for you if you are hesitant. The hotel itself is on a busy road with shops and restaurants, it is about a 5 minute walk to the beach and about 10 minutes up the hill to bar street. Don't take your high heels as the pavements are a foot high and there are cobbles all along bar street. One thing to be aware of is the price of premium drinks, we don't drink the local spirits and it was about £5 for an imported drink (vodka/martini) with mixer. So you may want to stock up in Duty Free before you go out All in all would definitely recommend.
brilliant week sent at the queen resort
Just got back from a week at the queen absolutley fab, hotel, pool, rooms and staff great. Many thanks to Fico, Suco, Ali, Mustafa (dobbie) and Jake for a great week. They looked after me fab. I am a single parent and its very dawnting going on your own but they made the week fantastic. Also Planet Yucca well worth a visit. Best Restaurant to visit is the Columbia, you wont get a better meal in Gumbet. Great water park, a good boat trip booked with Victoria at Exen in Bar St, visit her and tell her I sent you she will give you a good deal. Overall a great holiday. So good that I am going back in August and taking my friend.
Fantastic
Hey guys, Cant rate my holiday enough. Was very dubious when my two friends decided to book Turkey for our girls holiday but.. it was amazing. The best holiday ive been on. We met a wide range of age groups and met so many nice people. The hotel was really nice. People were fabtastic, so friendly, couldnt do enough for you. We couldnt walk past Planet Yucca without having a cocktail or two... ate there quite a lot too.. food was fantastic.. but we did not have one bad meal whilst we were over there. Definately worth doing the five island boat trip. We went with the mandarin restaurant, about fifty yards up from Queens reort on left hand side. £25, which includes breakfast at the restaurant, coach to pick you up take you to boat. five different stops on boat.. fabulous.. lunch on boat.. then returned about half five to hotel to get showered then back to mandarin restaurant for dinner and cocktail.. and you can chose anything off the menu.. we chose the most expensive.. (0: why not?? Beach was ten min walk, if that... lovely.. sand and hammocks and huge cushions.. beautiful scenery. Bar street where night life centres around was ten/fifteen min walk - near enough if you wanted a night out, but far enough away that you didnt hear it. Hotel was in perfect position at the top end of the town, only all inclusive hotels beyond it so you didnt get pepople walking back from bar street past the hotel.. I would thoroughly reccommend it.... cant go on enough... Were booking again september, and might even have a cheeky week in june (0: enjoy
So good we came back twice!
We arrived about 8pm totally knackered were greeted with a warm welcome and friendly faces, checked in, and our bags were taken to our rooms. Room was lovely, spotlessly clean, all facilities, glasses, mugs, cutlery, kettle, pots and pans etc (which we never used, cos the food was that nice) We went on various excursions, Safari Jeep, Boat Trips, Jet ski'ing, Paragliding, tours around Bodrum, Gumbet markets etc and found the people to be wonderful. BARTER WITH EVERYONE - do not ever pay the asking price, its just daft, no-one does (except on restaurant bills) all bags, shoes, clothes, trips, tours, and services we knocked them down and saved a fortune, Expect to go on a Boat trip for example and find you paid £15 and the person next to you paid £20 The staff are fantastic, although I think the resort is mainly for younger people or open minded older people cos the staff can be a smidge overbearing at times, they talk to you and treat you like friends rather than customers at times, and dont think twice about pulling up a chair and talking to you all evening, we (3 girls on hols) found this great, total suckers for turkish charm, but i can imagine it would be a little annoying if you were with your wife/girlfriend! The resort was spotless, the toilets (no paper down the loo's folks, have to put dirty paper in a bin) were cleaned every day. I thought with having "used" loo paper in a bin, you would think it would stink, but we never smelt anything at all. I would recommend eating slightly inland from the beach, t he prices are jacked up and are astronomically expensive for cocktails/fresh juice etch, we found that if you go to the restaurants/pubs up the streets you can easily save 5 lira on a drink! We loved the Queen resort, and the the staff, and Gumbet so much so we went in June, and again in September! TIPS:- Expect to be called at. and enticed into every bar/shop that you pass - being rude wont help, its their living after all... We found that learning "No thank you" in turkish, just Threw them long enough (cos hell you dont look turkish) that you got away without too much hassle. For th Food places, saying "All Inclusive Thanks" was enough to stop them asking for the week :) If you want to go eat in a restaraunt, then go look at the menu outside, someone will come and try and entice you in, and you'll often get a Free 1st Drink, or garlic Bread (or both) if you look like your trying to make up your mind!
Good Base to explore.
We Have just returned from a two week stay at the Queen Resort. The apartments were comfortable and cleaned daily and linen changed on a regular basis, although sometimes the toilet bin was not emptied, which we thought was a bit strange. The only problem, as mentioned in previous reports, was the pool area. During our two week stay, we only saw one half of the tile area surrounding the pool being hosed down once. Under the sunbeds at the other side was really dirty and full of discarded litter which none of the staff seemed to bother picking up. The filters in the swimming pool were never cleaned and the mattresses on the sunbeds were very stained and certainly did not look anything like the brochure pictures. The staff were friendly enough but the only problem was they played extremely loud music from morning till well after midnight or had the football on the television roaring so you couldn't even relax with a drink on your balcony. Despite the previous comments, we really did have a good holiday as we did a lot of trips and ate in some lovely restaurants. Planet Yucca next door to the complex served lovely food and the entertainment was really good. Chinatown was also good and was always packed which speaks for itself. Would recommend the Dream Girls show as it was really a good laugh. Overall, the Queen Resort is a good enough base to stay, but management really have to look at cleanliness standards around the pool area.
restful holiday
Just back from a very hot week in Gumbet. Stayed at these apts last year. Gone down a bit as far as cleanliness goes. Otherwise good place to stay, staff friendly and location spot on. Gumbet getting more tacky each year too many restaurants fighting to get you in to eat at their place and the shops are just as bad. We've been going to Gumbet for this last eight years and the prices of eating out have really shot up. The hassle has got worse and some of the shopkeepers can be really ignorant. So i think we will give Gumbet a rest and go somewhere else for a change.
Not 4 Star do not stay unless you like very loud music and very annoying staff
I have just returned 23rd July staying at the Queen Resort, 8 of us stayed 2 families. What I would say is they are great if you want to party all night. Advantages. Great spot, about a 300 yard walk to the beach and close enough to the main nightlife but far away from bar street. Some excellent places to eat to the left of the hotel, Mandarin, Cheers (the best) China Town, Nacho Naan's just across the street also quite good. Yucka (attached to the side of the hotel also quite good) but as their music went on until about 2-2.30 in the morning and kept us awake at night (along with the music from the hotel) we did not pay it a return visit. Also Hotel Sami along the beach was also very good. Also some good places to eat in Bodrum again on the beach overlooking the castle (get the bus just outside the hotel on the opposite side very cheap 1.70 turkish lyr) Back to the good points. Location Condition of the apartments very good (but not 4*, as although they are self catering, you have to ask for a kettle, no side plates, no glasses (you have to get these from the bar) Also Aircon + safe key is extra we paid nearly 500lyr for 2 weeks aircon and 1 safe key. Also reception staff were very helpful. Main problem is the music and the staff. The music starts about 11.00am and just gets louder and louder, this goes on some mornings until 2.00am. The staff all want to be your friend but don't want to work. Their main purpose is to try and get you to use all the facilities as much as possible , bar, meals etc on site. Even if you were having diiner they would pull up a chair next to you and start talking, sorry but I go on holiday to relax not to be best mates with the staff. They think it is funny to push not just childern but adults into the pool, they spend most of their time messing about in the pool (not in any organised activity way) Also pool area and cleaning very rarely was any cleaning done. I was down every morning early as I do a bit of running the only time the pool area was cleaned was after a speacial night (eg ladies night) but all that was done was the area was hosed down with water, never was any disinfectant used. The problem is that no one is in charge of the pool area etc and at times it was hard to know who was on holiday, staff or guests. So if you don't mind very loud music, and very annoying staff then you should be ok. Sorry one last thing sunbeds big problem many were booked before people even went to bed (those who partied with staff got to leave their towels on the sunbeds before they went to bed)
lovely hotel not so sure about gumbet
Just back from a week at queens resort gumet with my boyfriend. It was HOT HOT HOT apparently it was a heat wave so temperatures were nearly reaching 50!!!! The apartments were really nice, well furnished, plasm t.v. etc. Cleaners cleaned our room everyday but when i say cleaned it was more that they tidied. Are sheets wern't changed and I don't think the towels were either!!! The guys who work there are great fun and if you are a young guy you will be asked to play football at half2 at night because thats the only time its cool enough! There isn't entertainment in the hotel every night but the nights that there is music can go on quite loud quite late and they play music constantly at the pool which can get a little loud and annoying when you're trying to relax. Gumbet itself I feel can only be described as TACKY, the only shops apart from the little supermarkets are fake handbag/belts/trainers etc shops. If you are self-catering and want a decent supermarket carrefour is a 5min dolmus ride away (this is the only time we used the dolmus). Also beside Carrefour is the Oasis shopping centre which is quite good but very quiet. On the first night we searched Gumbet for what looked to be a good restaurant to find that 99% of them are "Steak Houses"! Although halfway through our holiday after Memeh's best effort to get us to eat there we ate at "Planet Yucca" (right next to the apartments) and have to admit the food is simple but so tasty and a brilliant choice, mexican (quesaladas are yummy), italian ( garlic bread is also great), chinese, indian, dutch, turkish etc and the atmosphere s really great particularly around 10 at night. In the evening we got taxis 2 Bodrum ( about 11 lira each way or there is the dolmus) where there is an amazing marina and slightly more upmarket restaurants shops etc! Beside the marina yatch club is a shopping mall of quite expensive sailing makes, murphy and nye, paul and shark along with diesel and mavi jeans which i presume is turkish, expensive but nice for a look. Also at the opposite end of the cove there is Bodrum Castle and a good selection of souvenir shops but along with more "normal" shops eg Lacoste, Accessorize, Billabong, McDonalds can also be found there! Overall we had a nice holiday but just are a bit unsure of Gumbet as there is very little in it apart from bars, "steak houses", fakes and the locals themselves say "it is to impress young boys and girls" , " you will not get to sleep". I would however higly recommend Bodrum, despite not having a beach there s alot more to see and do. If the weather is really hot I would also recommend the Aquapark Dedeman which is a short dolmus/ taxi ride away and is on a hill with a breeze! If your looking for lots of bars crawls, "steak houses", neon lights, late nights and fake handbags then Gumbet is for you and sadly not for me! If only Queen Resort and Planet Yucca were in Bodrum!
