Excellent value for money

Oct 2011, Mugsy

Spent a week all inclusve in early October 2011. The Luca was excellent, very clean, very friendly Staff, excellent choices at all mealtimes. We liked the low rise layout with superb gardens, had a large double room plus a twin bedroom to spread out into. Pools were great, if a little cold!. No complaints at all, would go again without any hesitation.

  • Advice: Try to get rooms 5000 or above, more modern, better views but a bit of a walk.

No more time

Aug 2010, Martin Eden

Well, I' am Polish and I have spent 7 days in this hotel in the beginning of August 2010. I rate is really low, definetely below the standard of 4 stars. The only 'plus" were nice pools and decent hotel area. The drawbacks were a poor cuisine, the filthness and low standard - drinks were served in plastic but not disposable cups; even straws were taken from bins and washed... Three stars for a modest price could be OK but not more. The distance to the beach (about 3000 ft) is huge at 34-37 Centigrades so you will probably be doomed to stay in this mess. If you really try 'this survival' take one week; two weeks will trash you.

Stayed at the Luca Faliraki for two weeks, and had a brilliant time, although it was very, very hot. Rooms were big with air con. Food great with loads of choice. You need to get up early to get a sun bed during high season as this hotel is full of germans. The only downside was, as this was a hotel run by germans, the announcements were mainly in german so us brits found it hard to join in. Would not recommend going with Libra. We had to wait hour and half at airport on hot coach before we could journey to our hotel, rep never turned up for the welcome meeting and there was no rep on the return coach, just a driver who bibbed his horn!
You must visit Mikes pub. Its a british pub where you can get british food and watch the footie and soaps etc. You are always guaranteed a warm welcome.
If hiring a car you must visit the Seven Springs and the beach at the southern most tip of Rhodes. There is a strip of sand where one side the sea is calm for beginners can learn to wind surf, but the other side is amazingly rough. What a contrast.

Having read lots of the reviews on...

Having read lots of the reviews on this site before booking my holiday I decided to take a chance....After all, you can't please everybody!
I wouldn't warn people to stay away from a holtel, or strongly recommend it. What I will do is give you the benefit of my familys experience.
No complaints about Thomas Cook at all so I will focus on the hotel itself. Hotel Luca is one of the better looking hotels in and around Faliraki. Occupying a cliff top position with some great views, the main building is modern, clean, and air conditioned (which is more than you can say about the actual accomodation).
Yes there is "air conditioning" but not modern or sufficient enough for the sort of tempreatures you can expect in Greece. The rooms are cleaned daily but they are by no means what you would expect from a "4 Star" hotel.
Germans..... Yes, this is essentially a German hotel. 80-90% of the guests are German, not surprising when I found out from the rep that the hotel is owned and run by a German board. Not that I have anything specific against German people in general!
Entertainment was practically non existent which for me was the most disappointing thing about the whole holiday. No disco, live music, karaoke, magic, variety to be had here. More like 3 German teenagers putting on a show that they have written in 5 minutes which involved creeping up behing oneanother and shouting BOO!?!
We paid for all inclusive but should have gone half board because we had to venture out so often for the sake of our sanity.
Sounds pretty damning so why have I given a rating of 6?
Well the food was fine and varied (assuming I got the food poisoning from a beach side restraunt)
The staff where very polite, helpful and friendly, the beach and bars of Faliraki are a 20 minute walk away, the swimming pools were very clean, and sunbeds usually available.
Other gripes:
Cockroaches. Hate the little blighters and had to get 3 huge ones out of my room
Drinks, ask for a beer and it comes in a little plastic cup which is half beer half froth so by the time you get back to your table it's gone
No bottled water provided
The bottom line is you get what you pay for. SO on that basis I guess Luca offers value for money.
I hope this insight of Summer 2008 helps you.
Happy Holidays!

we have just arrived back from faliraki staying at the luca . it says its a 4 star which it most deffinatly isnt it caters mostly for the germans which takes up about 80 per cent of the guests ther was no entertaiment only small very dull show in the evening which was mainly in german or broken english ( if you tke your kids be prepard for them to sing in german because thats what the few party dances are in) the pool was fantastic with plenty of loungers . the drinks were great with cocktails in plenty supply. it was a good 15 min walk to town but to get a taxi only cost 5 euros. overall i would`t go back to the luca and would`nt advise anyone to take children there it would be no fun for them. we went in may and the hotel wasnt full and they had very small bar so i cant imangine what it would be like in august . only good points were the brilliant weather and lush pool.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a fantastic holiday at Luca Faliraki. We had been looking forward to it for over a year and it did not disapoint. We were one of the last people to be dropped off at our hotel on the journey there and we decided that our hotel looked the best, appearance wise, by far.
The hotel was clean, spacious and the staff were friendly and easy to talk to. We had a welcoming arrival and were pleased with our comfortable, clean room with a great view of the pool.
The food was good quality with a wide choice for breakfast, lunch and evening. Everything from chips to squid, there was something for everyone.
Would definaltey recommend Olympic holidays as a tour operator. They were extremely useful and polite and we had a great time on the several excursions arranged by them. We visited Rhodes town, nearby beaches and had a boat ride to Lindos - fantastic
The hotel itself is ideal for families and couples as there is something for everyone. There are 2 main pools as well as an additional childs pool and a hot tub. As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel does seem to have a large german population, but we found in some cases these did provide a bit of entertainment (nick thier sun loungers one morning and you will see what we mean!!)
The location of the hotel was ideal for us, however, for older people or those with young children, it may be a bit of a treck to the beach. Although there are plenty of shops quite nearby. Considering the noisy and loud reputation of Faliraki, the hotel itself was perfectly situated out of that for those who dont want to get caught up in it. You can get some great views looking over Faliraki by night and day from the hotels terrace within the bar area.
Overall, would recommend this holiday 100% and if we weren't poor students we would go again immediatly! We will definatly return one day.

I took my sister on this holiday to Rhodes; we were looking forward to it all year. We stayed in Faliraki. We were told that it was the end of the season and things would be closing... unaware by 6pm everywhere was shut, and the place looked like a ghost town! We had a good 20minute walk from the hotel, with no street lighting! We only did that the once, as it was creepy.
The hotel itself was lovely, very friendly staff. Although very little for my sister to do as it was all German Entertainment for the kids. They did try and include her but it was very difficult to understand.
The food to be honest was nice initially at the beginning, come the third evening getting the same set menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner it was not nice at all. There was not a great variety for these three meals. Very disappointed as I had to make sure my sister had a substantial amount of healthy food.
The supermarkets had very little as it was end of season. The Food was my only issue, every thing else re: cleaning service, staff, and hotel in general very accommodating and good.
Before arriving at the boarding gate to get on the flight back home, I would have considered maybe coming back but to a different part of Rhodes.
Unfortunately as arriving to the boarding gate, my sister's boarding pass was taken (to be checked as is the routine); she was ushered to go down the ramp towards the bus, as I was stopped from going through. I tried to explain to the Airport staff that this CHILD was with me, I was ignored as she stepped in front of me blocking my way to getting to my sister.
Another member of staff came and ushered (put her arm around the childs shoulder) her down the path, then left her to get on to the bus unaccompanied and go to the plane unaccompanied.
During this, I had to wait a further 7minutes for another bus to arrive. The member of staff then handed me my sister's boarding card, not only did she with great determination send a child to a plane on its own, but with no boarding card so she couldn’t get on the plane.
Thankfully excel airways staff kept her on the plane until I arrived. It was reported to the Floor Manager of the Airport.
I am absolutely disgusted at the thought of what might have happened, and what they did with such determination. This will be reported further, but thought anyone who has small children or children of any age, when going to Rhodes be aware of this situation and how easily anything more serious could have happened.

We have just booked for another two...

We have just booked for another two weeks all-inclusive in May/June 2008. What a superb location it is being based on the hillside and, because it's just outside the main nightlife area, there was no undue noise after 11pm. That was our only real concern but any fears were soon banished. Faliraki has certainly cleaned up its image big time.
The spacious hotel was very well run and every member of staff we met spoke good English except a room maid or two but that hardly is a problem when a big friendly smile can say more than any words.
We found the food very enjoyable, plenty of it and varied although the main 4 meat/fish each day was rather repetitive during the last 2 or 3 days. Their theme nights were always well received and most enjoyable too. Plenty of drinks and cocktails were being consumed and (despite a few nutters who can’t wait to get drunk ASAP just because they're on holiday) a great time was had by all. Yes, there are plenty of Germans but most speak English and as a rule at least their kids were much better behaved than many of the English kids we encountered.
The entertainment was your typical "animation team best efforts" but sadly as it was mainly conducted in German we never really found out if they were that funny. On the face of it they probably weren’t. But, all the kids thought it was great and seemed to enjoy all the silly men and women falling over in silly costumes.
We've booked again so I reckon that speaks for itself....you'll never please everyone and as some people expect far more than they're actually paying for I guess some will disagree with my comments.

Sep 2007, Mrs Pat Brain

We stayed here for two weeks in what was advertised as a 4 * hotel, what a joke!! It is a complex with dining facilities, no fridge, no tea making facilities, air conditioning more like a radiator blowing cold air which we couldn't use because of the noise it made like a generator.
While the food was ok, the entertainment was geared up for the 90% of ignorant German guests, sunbeds were all taken by 8.30 no alternative but to go out each day.
I would not recommend Libra holidays to anyone, nor will we use them again.

Is there a higher rating than 10?! I don't care what the other reviews say, they must have been in another hotel. I booked my holiday with Olympic Travel. They were co-operative and very helpful! A big thanks to our tour operator Jade who booked us the best night of our life (the foam party at Bed Club!).
The hotel was clean and comfortable, our room was perfectly situated by the pool. There is a taxi service available from behind the reception, every single member of staff was helpful and spoke many different languages (English, German, French and Italian to name a few!!)
The cleaners had a well earned day off on Sunday. Through out the two weeks me and my sister were there they cleaned the rooms and even left us little presents!! This was the best holiday, with excellent service, value for money and lovely food. There was also a good range of drinks and refreshers. The hotel is perfectly situated - a 15 minute walk in to Faliraki centre and a 3min taxi ride for 4 euros! I have already booked to go back to this same hotel with the same tour operators! Can't wait!! :)!

Is there an overall rating higher than 10?
The others that have reviewed this holiday must have been really unlucky as I had the best holiday of my life there. The hotel is spotless and staff are warm and friendly: they all speak English. Some said that they were disappointed that the reps and staff couldn't speak English only German or Greek but how about they try and learn other languages. At one point on holiday there was a Greek woman, an French woman and a German woman all speaking in English, making jokes and actually understanding each other!
Anyway back to the point, the swimming pools were out of this world and the look of the restaurant, the rooms, the pool and the staff were all perfect. The food was lovely as well. The Med nights made sure there was something for every nationality and age.
The rooms were kept spotless and the sheets and towels changed everyday and with that the cleaners were all friendly and very helpful. So what they had a day off on a Sunday? They have over 800 rooms to clean!
The hotel was close enough to the fantastic nightlife but far enough to not hear the noise! And whoever was complaining about the walk, stop it, as you could ask for a taxi at reception and they were prompt and polite. Even when me and my sister strolled in at 7 in the morning :) the receptionist was well mannered and helpful!
This was by far the best holiday of my life in the nicest hotel, I'm booking again a.s.a.p!

Staying at hotel Luca was very nice,...

Sep 2006, Miss L Kitchen

Staying at hotel Luca was very nice, the rooms were always clean and the maid service was very good. The towels were cleaned on a daily basis and the maids were very friendly. The staff were also very friendly and would always help you when you needed them.
The food on the other hand was the weakest point, alot of the food was salad and I think mainly catered for vegetarians, the food was not good for children as there was chips but chips are not the healthiest meal when you have to have them daily.
Also the entertainment is good but for children under the age of around 10, there is nothing for teenagers or adults to do on a night and with the nightlife around a good 20 minutes half an hour walk away most people choose to stay in the complex itself. There should at least be a disco or something for the adults and teenagers on a night.
90% of the people who go there are German, and this did put a downer on the holiday as most of the holiday reps spoke in German and the shows on a night were in German so the English and other nationalities there did not know what was being said, the Germans also got all the best rooms in the complex, and I was privileged to be in one of these rooms, but this was only because they got our room arrangements incorrect and was making 5 of us share 1 apartment so they put us in the new block to compensate us not being happy, but the staff did all they could to make us happy.
Over all I did like the holiday apart from the little set backs, the nightlife is great and you can always have a good time in the heart of faliraki!! And the staff were always friendly when we rolled into the hotel reception around half 5 in the morning :) they were good times :)
I would definitely go back, but mainly for the nightlife.
