Carlton Hotel

I am only going to write small reviews from now on because I travel too much and stay at too many hotels to write long reviews. This hotel was great, I got a deal through Easyjethotels and it cost me about GBP 50 a night. Its like any other 5* premium rate hotel that you spend GBP 200 on a night. Clean, No Hassle and has buckets of amenities. I would 100% go there again and wouldnt care paying more. p.s Breakfast is a must, extensive range and only GBP 10 BARGAIN

i was looking forward to staying in this suppossed 5 star hotel...it is not a 5 star hotel.I would class it between a 4 star or even a 3 star hotel. The lobby is lovely when you walk into the hotel and the central seating area. However when you go around the side corridors the place quickly becomes grey dreary and rather depressing. The place is even quite shabby. I was amazed at the poor quality of the decorating, and lack of it! We stayed in Hotel Carlton which is perfectly located right in the centre of the city within walking distance of Guggenheim, all shopping, museums and best areas for Tapas. Our room was overlooking the main square and very spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was also very nice. The main criticism we had was the waiting staff. We went for a drink in the lobby and the waiter ran away from us when we tried to order as he was finishing his shift. I had been looking forward to my stay at the historic Carlton Hotel in Bilbao. After all, this had been a haunt of Hemingway and other famous figures. But what a bummer. The biggest plus for the Carlton is its location in the center of Bilbao, close to a convenient subway stop. Free internet access is another plus. Its biggest minus was the haughty staff, an arrogant bunch, who acted in a condescending manner on numerous occasions. Spent four nights in the Carlton the week of the fiesta in Bilbao.The place to be in Bilbao! Very lively bar, serving tapas every evening. THe Carlton is right beside the Gran Via, the main shopping street. There is a gym with plenty of free, cold water and a business centre with free internet access. Very spacious rooms. Would definitely stay there again.

I wish we could have stayed here longer. It was truly a touch of class. The rooms were spacious and elegant. We had rooms in the front of the hotel and it was lovely to look out and see the fountain and the gardens in the plaza. It was also within walking distance to the Guggenheim.
