We stayed at the Coronas playa for two week, end of July to the beginning of August. With the properties in Lanzerote limited to 6 stories high they build out and not up. The Coronas Playa is spread out and has two huge unheated pools. The top pool near reception is the... more

This was our first stay in a Thomson gold hotel, and how disapoininting it was. The hotel is very dated, when you arrive you get the impression that it was designed in the 70s, we stayed in a garden suite with sea views in "Canarian style gardens",(very debatible). The rooms... more

Not what we expected
Thomson Gold was recommended by a colleague and we thought we would give the Coronas Playa a go. The hotel was spotless and the staff friendly and efficient. The room was spacious, but the beds were very hard and the air conditioning non existent. The restaurant was fine only if you want a predominantly English menu. The order of the day for most diners was Soup and a roll, Roast dinner and a sweet. There were some canarian dishes, but they were few and far between. We ate out at an excellent local restaurant for most of the second week mainly to avoid the unwanted attentions of the "kissy woman". Spending time by the top pool was a strange experience - not a sound to be heard but gentle snoring and the occasional passing of wind The entertainers tried hard and again they were fine if you want an up market Butlins ambience. At times we felt like we were bit part actors in a One foot in the Grave / Waiting for God summer special, I would guess the average age of the guests at somewhere north of 60! It was a relaxing couple of weeks, maybe we'll come back in 30 years time!
What a great hotel
Wow!! What a great holiday, Having just returned from the Coronas Playa, we thoughly enjoyed it, from our greeting with a free drink of fresh orange juice! our cases brought to our room, which was huge!!!. maid was brillant we take a little soft toy as a good luck mascot which she gave hime a holiday too. as every day we got back to our room aftrer a long day at the pool, our toy had the tv controlls in its hand one day the next my empty waist wallet with a gone shopping note left. it was so sweet, words cant explain untill you experience it. had a very varied age range and every body was extermely friendly it was perfect. The reps were absolutley amazing Ross & Nicole in entertainment they deserve a medal., Chris, new to thomsons but still very helpfull, Richard sound and lighting and a good laugh especially at water polo, Shelly & Louise local interst advisors very good!! Not forgetting the resedient band duo Rebound Steve & Sheila Brillant not only do they play music they tell jokes and generally take the mick out of each other but in a funny way. The hotel has 2 big pools top one nice and quiet , those seeking more fun and frolics should venture to the lower pool, another treat when you go for dinner Natti the matra d'i will great you with the warmest welcome ever you will never have been kissed so much before in your life. the staff are so helpful it is amazing we didnt have one complaint. all we can say were wanting to book for next year but having problems as it's already booked up. A BIG WELL DONE TO ALL AT CORONAS PLAYA
Best Thomson Gold
Arrived home last night - 6th October From walking through the doors on arrival to leaving one week later nothing was too much trouble for the Staff. The food was excellent, the hotel spotless, plenty of space on the terraces and good entertainment. Cost of drinks a little expensive, especially soft drinks, and with a few bars scattered round you can cut your costs down considerably - recommend Steptoes Not an ideal location - in the quieter part of Coste Tequise and a fair walk to the town centre, but close enough and nearly all flat. The hotel caters for couples - no kids under 16 - hurray!!!!!!! We do not normally return to the same hotel but will definately go back to the CORONAS PLAYA
peacefull
We just arrived back on22/8/04. after two weeks and we enjoyed very much. Good food and entertainment and the hotel was very clean. The rooms were very large and they all had a pool view. All the staff were friendly and helpfull. It was nice and peacefull around the pool as there were no children at the hotel. Ross the rep was a real scream. The only bad points were the poor air conditioning in the bedrooms, restaurant and pavillion club and the limited choice of food. we would recommend this hotel to everyone especially our friends.
Excellent
A lovely Hotel and on arriving, 01/08/04 at 12ish we were greeted with a cool drink while checking in, supplied by the management. Rooms are vast and ours 626 was great, the maid keeping it spotless every day. The entertainment by the acts was good but on two of the nights during our 14 night stay they were not to our taste an we tried the monkey bar entertainment which more than acceptable. The food was good and there was always something that was acceptable for us, breakfast was what ever you wanted eggs sausage etc or cereal fruit etc. My only critic, there was no coffee after the evening meal it had to be bought in the monkey bar. The Hotel charged 20 euros a week for the hire of the room safe a bit high we thought but during our stay there were three reported thefts to the rep! There was a deposit of 10 Euros required for the TV control and pool towels which could be changed at any time for fresh ones. The Costa Tegise resort was about 10 mins walk away on the coast road and was not a place I would have liked to stay in but thats only my opinion, to much activity. The Hotel staff were extremly helpful and what ever was requested they supplied. The reps were a little over the top we thought when we first arrived but towards the end of the week we found that we had enjoyed thier banter and activities and at the end of the second week realised they had worked very hard at giving us good holiday entertainment, which they had done. The best part of the Hotel, NO KIDS, the quiet pool was quiet all activities were held in the lower pool. I would certainly recommend the Hotel and will seriously consider going back again in the near future.
Fantastic place!!!!
My partner and I have just arrived home from the coronas playa and we want to go back tommorrow!! It was the best holiday that we have ever had. Everything from the accommodation to the entertainment was fantstic. We cannot say a bad thing about it. The food was fantastic from breakfast until dinner, the staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. We would like to say a special thanks to the entertainment staff, Ros, Nicole for making our holiday the most enjoyable one so far. The atmosphere at the poolside (on the record day of aquafun, 70 people in the pool!) was brilliant, with the poolside games and quizzes. If you are thinking of going, don't think just book! Thats the advice i can give to you.
fantastic
stayed at the Corons Playa for a week. We had a excellent stay. The hotel accomadation was superb immaculate clean along with superb food quality and the staff were most polite and friendly. Although in a quite position it was still in walking distance to the main resort to Costa teguise and a 15min coach drive from Puerto Del Carmen. We look forward to our return visit later this year.
Fantastic Hotel / Poor Daytime Activities
My wife and I arrived at the hotel at approximetly 2100hrs on June 10th 2004, for a two week stay. We were greated by Mati who we found to be the nicest person we could possibly have hoped to meet, she was the restaurant manager and could not do enough to please all the guests. Having stayed at platinum hotels on a few occassions I surprisingly found this hotel to be of a higher standard. The Hotel was immaculate. The restaurant food was exceptional, and the staff were very freindly. The rooms are massive and free towels are supplied for pool use. The maid service was very good, and our bedding was changed ever two days. The only bad thing about the holiday was the poor daytime activities, no archary, shooting, football, volleyball etc. If you like any physical games you will not find them at this hotel. The Reps have a very easy job compaired to every other hotel I have visited. I would recommend the catamaran trip as a highlight it was well worth the money and had a free bar and food. Tha national park trip was too exspensive, I would suggest that if you want to ride a camel it is worth going on, however after that all you really do is look at volcanic formations, and spend approx 15min watching someone set light to scrub and poor water down a metal tube then stand and watch for the stem to shoot into the air.
Just as good second time around
We have just returned from our second visit to the Coronas Playa and we were not disappointed in any respect. We were last there two years ago and many of the staff were the same (a good sign as a happy staff is usually indicative of a good company). The standard of service, catering and entertainment were all excellent. The reception staff all speak extremely good english and couldn't be more helpful. Even the fact that one of the pools was closed for repair for the first week did not detract from the holiday as there is plenty of room for all at the hotel and never any doubt about getting a sunbed. If anyone is looking for a quiet and peaceful holiday with no children running about then this is the place to go. A lovely hotel in lovely surroundings and the most pleasant helpful staff you could find anywhere.
Everything a first
This was a first holiday at Lanzarote for myself, my wife and friends. It turned out to be a first rate experience all round, from the booking (with Thomson, thro' Lunn Poly) to arrival in our enormous room at the Coronas Playa. The staff at Lunn Poly, Thomson and Coronas Playa could not be faulted. The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient (most spoke good English) whilst the Thomson reps could not have been more helpful. The variety of food in the restaurant, and the quality, was exceptional. Snacks at the poolside cafes were very filling. The weather was excellent. Not much to do in the immediate area outside the hotel so our hire car (Hertz) was very useful. With four users it was probably better value than the organized trips. Would recommend visits to Timanfaya National Park (the Volcano area), the Cuevas de los Verdes ( lots of steps - so not for the disabled), the Mirador del Rio and the Fundacion Cesar Manrique to tour the home of that artist, which he designed and built using the natural 'bubbles' in the volcanic lava flow for connected rooms and swimming pool. Good shopping in Arrecife (if you can find somewhere to park) and in Playa Blanca. The 'old town' at Puerto del Carmen was more interesting than the newer part. P.S The Coronas Playa is very wheelchair 'friendly', having easy access ramps in the grounds and from reception to rooms at that level, (i.e. to rooms beginning with '4'). Lifts allow access to other floors.
