Coronas Playa Hotel Reviews
" lovely hotel but with one problem! "
Submitted By: gaynorwilliams11@aol.com" an excellent hotel with friendly staff set in a perfoect location near the centre of Costa Teguise "
Submitted By: bjarEntertainment is available all day and during the evening but no pressure is put on anyone to join in. The two pools work well, with the top pool for those who wanted to relax, sunbath or swim and the bottom pool used for water aerobics, polo and games.
The evening entertainment was varied and good and hosted by the reps. (Louis, Caroline.Krispie and Matt) Although an adult environment, the entertainment was void of the usual bad language often used to 'entertain'.
Well worth the money

Submitted By: talbotclanThis island is windy but this is actually good as it stops you feeling hot. The temps were about 35 - 40 while we were there but it certainly didn't feel that hot.
Luis will entertain you all day long around the pool with a variety of activities such as water fitness, water polo, line dancing, boules, skittles and golf putting but there's no pressure, you can just watch.
Every evening the entertainments team work between 8pm - midnight laying on quiz shows, dancing, music, singing etc and there is quite often a visiting artist eg comedian or dancers . We saw 2 good comedians, an Elvis tribute and a Lord of the Dance show which were all very good.
Some previous reviews talk about average age - there are admittedly quite a few people over 55, hwever we are 42,43 and our daughter came with us she is 16. We found plenty of other families our age and made some really good friends. Our daughter had plenty of company from other teenagers and they all had a great week together.
We loved this hotel and would happily recommend it to anyone.
Advice: Nice promenade walk along the beach front to the main square. Takes about 15 mins from the hotel.
Activities: Catalana catamaran trip - go on the platinum sail - no children and free champagne/ drinks all day.
Good for: Beach
" Brilliant "
Submitted By: dipsydoodlenoodleThe main age range when we went was 50+, when we arrived there were a few young couples, and as we were leaving there were more younger couples arriving. We are aged 23 and 25. It's our second attempt to a Thomson Gold hotel and to be honest if I could only ever go back to that hotel again I would be extatic. We didn't feel left out because of our age, we made efforts to join in with the older couples and as I said we made many a good friend.
The hotel enterntainers (Lisa and Louis) were lovely, they were sociable and remembered everyones names. Louis is so full of energy and tries to get everyone involved. If people messed up doing the activities no one was made to feel silly.
The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, the waiter we used to sit near to most nights 'Jose' was really helpful. The chairs can be rough on your legs and everytime Jose saw me coming he would bring a cushion over for me to sit on, he even did that when we weren't sitting in his area.
Night time entertainment was ok, it was funny and watchable; I think they did a good job. The entertainment was aimed at the majority - which is fair enough. The entertainment wasn't mine or my boyfriends cup of tea but it was certainly entertaining enough, one young couple complained when we were there about the evening entertainment; however the hotel has to cater to the majority (50+) but it was still very good. The resident due 'Les and Lesie' were also good.
We both enjoyed it so much that we have been looking to go back :).

" excellent hotel ! "
Submitted By: debtravesThe place is fantastice ! We asked for a top floor sea view room and got it .The rooms and bed are huge ! Very very clean .
The staff are so friendly and couldnt do enough for you .
The food is out of this world ,we both put on 4 kilos in a week !
The entertainment lacked a little for us .Reminded us of Haven holidays for pensioners !
We are 52/54 ,and were one of the youngest , but it was interesting entertainment .We would of liked more live bands .The comedian Steve Salter was good thou!
We would go back as a gold hotel it is tops !!
Advice: it is worth every penny
Activities: The food in the hotel is superb !

" A lovely week "
Submitted By: stephy122We were greeted at the hotel by warm and friendly staff with a drink and a smile. They all spoke perfect english and our bags were taken to our room for us by the time we'd checked in. The rooms were very big, plenty of room and that included wardrobe space which is often lacking in any hotel room abroad. There was a fridge free of charge (another rarity) and a hairdryer in the bathroom. There was also a tv with limited channels unless you paid 3 euros a day for english ones. The safety deposit box was in the wardrobe and when you rented it they also provided clean towels for use round the pool. There were plenty of sun beds but some people still insisted on reserving them with their towels even though they were politely asked not to do so in literature and signs around the pool. The hotel was extremely clean. There was no litter whatsoever and the parasols and sun beds were free, granted a few of those were broken but that's perhaps the fault of the guests' over exuberance. The entertainment was not to our liking and you couldn't get a cup of tea in the Pavillion bar after your evening meal but believe you could in the other bar. The food was amazing and we managed to eat to excess at every meal time. There was a roast almost every night straight from the carvery as well as other meats prepared in many ways, many different salads and sweets to suit even the pickiest of people, something for everyone. The staff couldn't do enough for you and were efficient and very friendly. There was a full english breakfast if you wanted one and the sausages were actually like we have back home. I won't mention the bacon though!!!
The drinks were a tad expensive in the hotel but that's to be expected and the state of the euro didn't help. There was a few english bars just over the road, some had actually DROPPED their prices because of the credit crunch. There was quite a few restaurants of every nationality if you fancied a change but the hotel did theme nights eg spanish and italian nights and anyone with something to celebrate were treated to balloons, a cake and a rendition of 'happy birthday' from the waiters and waitresses.
Another plus for us was the fact that there were no children in the hotel and there wasn't the constant blaring of loud music around the pool, allowing us to relax around the pool, in the surrounding areas and even had an uninterupted siesta every afternoon.
Now to the minuses, which were only a few, firstly the beds were hard as rock so it was difficult to have a full night's sleep (some people might like a hard bed though).
The sandy beaches are very small, in coves as the area is mainly volcanic but you know that before you go surely. You had to pay for the sun beds and parasols on these beaches which were about 4 euro which I thought were a tad expensive.
The only other minus was the fact that some of the pavements were very high and didn't have dropped kerbs for wheelchairs, invalid scooters and pushchairs.
All in all the holiday was a very enjoyable one and we hope to go back again very soon, perhaps even next year.
Highly recommended!
Advice: Be careful! I got my face burned as the breeze makes it seem cooler than it actually is.

Submitted By: warriorbest holiday we have ever had. everything in the hotel is geared to you having a great holiday. the staff are marvellous and will do anything to help if you have a problem. the reps are on site throughout the day and evening and the entertainment is first class.
the hotel is large but only 3 stories high and is spread over quite a large area. two large pools referred to as top and bottom pools. where all the daily activities take place. (great fun) food is excellent with a wide choice changed daily and if you want a full english it is available every breakfast.
hotel is well run and very clean. rooms are large and airey with lovely balconies, all over looking one of the pools.
there is a tiny beach at the rear of the hotel but it is tiny and mostly volcanic rock
certainly not how it is discribed in the brochure. the best beaches in the area are north of costa teguise centre which is less than 2 miles away. there is a so called promanade which runs from the rear of the hotel to teguise centre and beyond, great if you fancy a quiet stroll,
all in all a lovely holiday in a great hotel. would we go back. yes yes yes

Submitted By: Mr E RobertsThe hotel is built over 2 complexes joined by a stepped walkway - each complex has its own pool. The upper pool is the quiet area, the bottom pool is where day time activities are held.
Each area is served by a pool bar/snack area and have a number of sun beds and fixed parasols - they are always snapped up by 09:00. The top pool is a disgrace with lots of black mould between the grouting and a number of areas missing small tiles, again with black mould appearing to have formed. The water looks clean although personally I would not swim in it - although many people were happy to do so.
The hotel is served by a single dining room and again the staff are genuinely welcoming and friendly and happy to converse with you. The dining room is clean and tidy, tables were always available. The food was good but at times boring, especially in the salad bar, which was predominently just salad items. Rarely did you get any pate, or meat selection. The main course vegtables were also toitering on the boring - with carrots/peas a rare treat.
The rooms are huge, although sparsely furnished. The rooms are kept spotless with maids who ensure they stay that way. A safety deposit box is available for a 3€ a day charge - but should be your first purchase - just for peace of mind. UK TV is also available again for 3€ per day, although you can select which days to buy. We did not take up this option as part of the holiday is to get away from UK.
Each room has a hair dryer and small fridge - although it really is not a fridge just a cooler. Do not buy fresh milk as it will go off after 2 days - buy long life Scottish milk from Netto or Spar - can't taste difference.
Entertainent is excellent - both day and night time and the Thomson Gold team do a fantastic job - their own cabaret nights in hotel - one per week are a must. Professional acts are also excellent, as are resident duo - The Score. These all appear in the wigwam - Pavillion. The Monkey Bar by reception also has acts on later in evening - normally musically duo.
The Thomson welcome is worth going to just to get a bit of a low down on the resort. Don't bother with many of their trips. We went on one to Costa Calero as it was advertised as a yacht harbour - 15€ per person and waste of time and money - access to the yacht basin was denied, so you could only view from the top walkway - it was also poorly managed as 4 people were left at hotel and had to get taxi to Costa Calero to catch us up - but to be fair to Thomson - they received a refund - hhhmmmm.
We were also advised by Thomson that it was not easy to get to Teguise market on Sunday and to go with Thomson trip at cost of 16€ each. We were first told that their were no buses - then that they only ran every 2 hours and their was a stampede to get them on the return. We took the local bus at a cost of 2€ each each way and the buse was empty on arrival at bus stop and buses were queuing up reafy to return people - could not have been easier.
We went on a Direkt Coach Island Tour - 30€ each - Thomsons wanted 63€ for that one. Coach picked up outside hotel entrance and dropped us off after excellent tour. The message is - shop around - if you want to go with Thomson please do - but their are plenty of options - much cheaper.
The weather was hot - but windy, which can lull you into false sense of security - you can burn very wuickly if not careful - so take your time and acclimatise.
Overall a very good holiday - staff and entertainment made it what it was - plus the many people we met and coupled up with on our stay - but as for Gold standard - sorry Thomson need to re-evaluate this hotel. It needs a revamp in a number of areas - especially the pool

Submitted By: Ms E LeggeStaff were always pleasant & helpful, We had a lovely greeting first night in the dining room, by Jorge on the cash desk & the Dining room Manager, They shook hands with us & the whole procedure was explained to us which made us feel comfortable at once.
The dining room was VERY clean ,with a fantastic range of foods, all presented well & piping hot ( I have arrived back 4lb heavier) in spite of avoiding the sweet buffet, there was plenty of fruit to choose from both morning & evening.
Our maid was hard working ( Loly ) & looked after us & kept our room spotless, towels changed every day & bed linen always fresh, room 252 was a good place to be with no complaints from us, apart from those pesky pidgeons that people have obviously fed before we arrived.
The Reps Donna , (Nutter Jo Slo ) Andy & Chantelle, were all so ready to help & always around when you wanted information.
The drinks at the hotel bar are expensive, which you don't mind while you are being entertained at night by excellent artists & of course Jo Slo, however earlier on there are some very good bars across the road with happy hour drinks at very good value
The bus services are really good , we got about the island by going to Arreciffe bus station where you can get about to most places.
We got a bus to Playa Blanca 2 days & got a boat from there to Rubicon where there was a lovely little market, without the usual tatt!!!, & then you catch the same boat to get to Papagayo Beach , all in all we had a lovely 2 days there.
Be prepared for windy days in Lanzerotte, as this is usual, which was alright when the sun was out , but when the clouds were covering the sun it could be a bit chilly, so if you go in March take a warm jumper or 2 & something for warmth at night.
I was very dissapointed at not being able to go in the 2 lovely big pools ,due to the water being freezing, it said in the brochure the pools were climatised ,(don't believe it) you could see the pain on people's faces when the braver ones went in (but not in long)
We went to lots of places which would take too long to write about, But the nice hotel made our holiday good, so thankyou Tomsons Your staff & all the staff at Coronas Playa for making a holiday for two 65 year olds something good. I would think it is not very suitable for teenagers But 30 years up would be enjoyable for them
P.S plenty sunbeds so no need to put towels out to book them.
