I marked this hotel "above average" simply due to the room rate and location of the hotel. Right on Las Ramblas, it was very central for just about everything you could want when in Barcelona. 20 minutes walk from Estacion du Nord and 10 minutes to Placa Catalunya and the port, 5 minutes into Barri Gottic and right next to a Metro Station (Liceu). We stayed at the Hotel Ingles for 3 nights and we found it ideal. The location of this hotel is superb, literally 2 seconds walk on to Las Rambla. It also has a very nice little tapas restaurant and bar next door. The rooms are averagely sized, everything you need is there, t.v, safe etc, however the hotel doesn't have air con, there is only a fan nailed to the wall to keep you cool. We stayed at the hotel as a stop off to a motorbike tour from London to Barcelona to see the MotoGP. My girlfriend booked the room for three of us. Luckily one of the group decided to head off into France and meet us at the GP later on. I say luckily as when she called them up to alter the booking it had not been made in the first place!!! The staff are not very good with English on the whole and she had difficulty understanding what was going on. This hotel was far more than what we expected from a 1 star hotel! We have stayed in 3 star hotels which weren't as good as it. Right in the heart of Las Ramblas on a side street. No better place to feel Barcelona's atmosphire! Everything is literally a stone throw away. We were two young girls and we felt completely safe walking around. We has room 101 which was really spacious. Rooms were cleaned everyday and towels were also changed. Staff were friendly. 24 hour reception. Room safe was only 2 euro per day.
