Gran Derby Hotel

Gran Derby Hotel's 2-night Honeymoon Package was supposed to include a bottle of wine and roses upon our arrival as well as use of a Smart Car for a half day. Though we twice spoke to the management and they promised to take care of it, no wine, no roses and no Smart Car ever appeared. The hotel adds insult to injury by lying. What kind of professionalism is this? Definitely not star class! Beware!

The hotel is small and charming, but there are a few problems. One, the location is not near any tourist spots. It is geared more towards business folks. You need to take cabs every where. The closest metro is several blocks away. I got a duplex for about 90 euros in September, which is not bad considering that it is still high season there. These duplex rooms have dual airconditioning systems, which you can control seperately. One night the bedroom airconditioner died. It git to about 83 degrees F which made it impossible to sleep.... more

This hotel lacks any warmth and style.Location, nothing special. Room, nothing special. Front staff could be anything : bus drivers, school janitors, bean collectors ; no flair at all. I wouldn't be able to commend - nor to censor - anything at this establishment after a two -(halas) week stay , other that they IMPOSE to pay the bill at the end of every week, with that sort of "just in case" diffidence toward foreigners which is so common in Catalunia (Spain is the country where one need to have his/her document carefully checked even when... more

We spent three nights at the Gran Derby in November 2004. We were given a choice of two rooms, and took the larger one on the second floor. The duplex was dark and a little strange. The bathroom was a good size, as was the room. The only problem is the situation, right in the middle of nowhere. Taxis are cheap and the tour bus passes quite close. But if you feel like strolling around at night, there is not much to see. We got a great deal by booking through their web site in advance. No complaints on the price.

We live in France and visit Spain frequently yet I struggle finding nice, reasonably priced hotels in the large cities. The Gran Derby gave us a great rate. The facitlities were nice, the room, a 2 story suite, was large with 2 bedrooms upstairs. Two problems: It is quite off the beaten track, so you must be prepared to take a taxi or bus into civilization. Ok you wont be well situated but being constantly on the Ramblas could kill you ! Nice Clean Hotel...Nice Staff...They give a Smart Car for free when u need it !! great !! Conclusion very good advice: the price is a lot cheaper if you book by travel websites ... i used lastminute

We have visited Barcelona before and this time decided to stay at the Gran Derby. We were disappointed. The major problem was the room (on the top floor). It was smaller than expected, even with the rather interesting floor to ceiling mirrors at the end of the bed! An upside was an outside terrace, with a view of the pool (see below). Immaculately clean hotel - excellent service too. Rooms are spacious and bathroms are the full marble works. Rooms are slightly dark and furniture likewise - black leather and wood. Cd player, robes, slippers, linen changed daily. Pool area is small and overlooked - but again very well kept up. Slightly out of the centre but taxi rank outside hotel (cheap) and loads of buses so presented no problems. Altogether very good.

This is an excellent hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The bathrooms are big and very nicely done and the extras in the rooms (hi-fi, robes, slippers, mini bar) make it that bit more special. The area is also very nice with some great restaurants and cafes, and the most fantastic chocalte shop round the corner. The metro is close as are bus stops and taxi ranks. Lastly, the price is great. Highly recommended.

A superb 4 Star Hotel, close to Barcelona's boutiques. The staff are very attentive and the rooms are fully equipped as all are junior suites or duplex. Excellent decor, room facilities include stereo system, robes, slippers and many extras. Very helpful staff who speak good English and cannot do enough to assist. Taxi from the airport costs around 19 Euros and from hotel to city costs about 3 euros. The hotel is excellent value for money and i would definately stay again.
