Gutenburg Hotel

This hotel will be OK if you don't intend to spend any time in it and plan on partying until the early hours every morning. If you want a quiet, relaxing hotel in which you can chill and get some sleep after a long days sightseeing please look elsewhere. Booked this for my parents who stayed here from the 15th November for just one week. It is important to state from the outset that this hotel is a no-frills experience, for example, there are no gorgeous suites or spa complexes here. The hotel simply offers cheap accommodation in a very convenient location. My parents booked 6 nights/bed & breakfast for a cost of £226 which I think is very reasonable. If you don't intent to spend too much time in your hotel, this is a good option. I've been there for 4 days (from 7 to 10th of June), and it was a good decision. The hotel is situated near Ramblas, but not in the main road, so it seems a little strange on first approach. Nevertheless, you will not feel unsafe if you enter thru the main street (avoid the secondary streets, especially at night). If you already know Barcelona, and the Ramblas, you know that at night some precautions must be taken. Take the subway during day, and taxi at night.... more

A good value hotel in apartment layout. The approach to the hotel at the bottom of Las Ramblas is off putting but this should not put you off the hotel. The subway is 2 minutes walk, the beach and Port Vell 5 minutes and the full extent of Las Ramblas is right on the doorstep. Staff are friendly and very helpful. We stayed in the hotel Gutenberg for Three nights in August. We wanted to spend a bit more than a one or a two star hotel because we appreciate a bit of confort and cleanless... The hall was ok, breakfast also ok, but when we came into our bedroom, we saw lots of hairs on the floor, like if nobody made the housekeeping. If you're a young couple or group without a great deal of money then Apartmento Gutenberg is worth considering! My girlfriend and I stayed there whilst doing the tourist thing in Barca and it is clean comfortable central and close to the places you want to be! Food is good, staff are very friendly and the rooms are spotless. We had a studio bedroom ensuite with kitchenette and balcony. This hotel can only be described as suitable for budget travellers. I stayed with some colleagues from work in September 2005. It served it's purpose well as a 'crash-pad' for a big night out in Barcelona. The hotel is located one block off the world famous Las ramblas (Plaza colon end). Excellent location 50 metres from Las Ramblas and Drassenes metro station with a mix of apartments and hotel style rooms all with cooking facilities and fridge . The reception staff were really friendly and helpful with an adequate breakfast included . Great base from which to explore the wonderful city of Barcelona .

I stayed there in September with friends on a hen weekend. The appartments are handy for La Rambla and are within two minutes of the underground network.The area is slightly seedy although none of us felt threatened at any stage. In fact the nearest bar was a transvestite bar and the 'regulars' were all very friendly and welcomed our group. Tha apartments were very clean and excellent value for money. Clean , comfortable modern accommodation,breakfast room very congested, convenient location although one wrong turn landed us in the seedy red light district onthe other side of the block.
