A warning to all
from Traveller1889
I will start this review with a warning to all travellers who book into hotel rooms that use a card system to open the door and operate the electricity. DO NOT leave a card in the electricity switch at any time. We did so with one of the rooms only to find it had been taken whilst the room was being cleaned, the cleaners generally leave the doors ajar whilst cleaning. The following evening an attempt was made to gain entry into the room using the stolen card, We were lucky that we arrived just after the thief who made a getaway through a window, fortunately nothing was taken and the keys were immediately cancelled by the management and replacements obtained. With the exception of the above incident we had a great time at the Ciudad Blanca which adjoins the beech and is centrally located. There are two pools and are an adequate number of sun loungers, we were in a party of nine and were usually able to be together. The activities were varied and of a good standard. We booked this hotel based on previous reviews and were not disappointed, much better than other AI hotels in the area. The one area where improvement could be made was the evening shows. The professional shows which alternated nightly with the entertainment team were all much of a muchness juggling, miming, clowning around etc. A tribute band one night a week would have improved things no end. Many of the guests had stayed there before which says it all really and we would go back again without any hesitation.
Very good service
from amcm
It was a great experience because we find in this hotel a privilege location in the beach and in the center of the town. It is a hotel for families. Above average was the service always available for you. Our kids (below 10 years) like very much the activities during the day and the kids shows in the night. After the kids show a professional show keep us relaxing outside with a good cocktail always available with the all inclusive package. The food have a very good variety and quantity. Beautiful gardens give a great atmosphere around the two pools. The hotel provide all you need. You can rent a car, rent a bike, organize day travels in the country.
Great hotel for the whole family
from Ernsts
We arrived at the hotel on Sun 27th May. We flew with jet2.com from Manchester and booked the accomodation on an All Inclusive basis separately via a travel agent. I do have to say that the leg room on the jet2.com 757 aircraft was the least I have ever experienced and even on such a short flight, the discomfort was very apparent. We arranged private transfers from Palma Airport to the hotel with holidaytaxis.com and would recommend the service level to anyone. The check in was fast and efficient with the multilingual staff on the front desk. However, having arrived at the hotel before noon, the room was not ready until about 2.30pm. This was not too much of a problem as the there is a room off the lobby where luggage can be stored safely. We simply had some lunch and a few drinks until the room was ready for us. The rooms are spacious and clean with a balcony and a bedroom for the adults and two convertible sofas for the kids (11 & 10). For the amount of time actually spent in the room, this proved more than adequate for us. The hotel guests were 70% German, 10% British, 10% Swiss & 10% Scandinavian. I did hear the odd French, but I guess they could also have been Swiss or Begian! The Facilities at the hotel were impeccably well cleaned and hygiene was never in question. The Restaurant offered a wide selection of food and I would challenge anyone to not find anything they liked. Yes. It could have been considered repetitive, but find me a restaurant that wouldn't be considered repetitive after 10 consecutive visits! Manolo and his staff worked well to seat you as quickly as possible. There are two Swimming Pools. The main pool is situated right at the back of the hotel and whilst it is where most the activities are and where most people lie on loungers, it is not deep enough for adults to swim in. However, the quieter pool near Block 2 most certainly is. The Beach is only yards from either pool anyway. The Entertainment Staff (Los Animadores) under the direction of Massimo worked very hard throughout the day & night, providing activities for both Adults & Children. Our kids loved every minute with them and it certainly gave us a little free time also. If you have a young family and want a bit of sunshine that is only 2 hours flight away, then the Ciudad Blanca ticks all the right boxes. If you would like to ask any questions, pls drop me a line on julian@ernst.freeserve.co.uk
Good families with very young children
from stevenpatrick
We stayed from 29 May until 5 June 2007. The Hotel is on the main Alcudia - Can Picafort road in the Bellvue district right opposite Pizza Hut and KFC. There are numerous shops, bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. All Hotel staff speak English although there were not many English people staying. The majority of guests were German or Sandinavian. We had a four bed (one bedroom apartment) in Block 2 which is behind the stage area. The shows are finished each evening at a resonable hour so noise is not a problem. Each apartment has a balcony. We were on the third floor so had a view of the second pool and the sea. The apartments are cleaned well each day. Thre are safe deposit boxes in each room which you can hire at reception on arrival. The food in the restaurant and beach bar is good with plenty of choice on offer. You can choose to eat lunch outside by the beach or in the main restaurant. The restaurant becomes extremely busy at peak periods (18.30 to 20.00) with lots of toddlers and pre school age children. it can become quite manic so we tended to take our 7 & 8 year old at 20.30 which was much quiter and civilised. The main pool is quite small although interestingly shaped and quite shallow so perfectly safe for the kids. There is a second smaller but deeper pool at the back of the hotel. there are a lot of sun beds but be warned, you need to be an early bird to secure your favoutite roost. On our last day we left the hotel at 7am and yes you guessed it, the towel drapers were out in force! The pool bar has an endless stream of ice creams and soft drinks for the kids. you can help yourself to the soft drinks, alcoholic drinks including beer has to be served, but the service is good. The Hotel has a fantastic beach side location which is the best feature. You can literally drift between pool, sand and sea taking in drinks at the same stage, fantastic. The hotel has the usual mixture of the on site star team providing the entertainment. OK if you like that type of thing, the outside stage bar is close to the stage with good waiter service.
Fantastic Hotel
from Hertfordshirelass
My husband, in-laws and 20 month old daughter are just back from 7 nights at this superb family hotel. The hotel exceeded all expectations and was an excellent example of what a hotel should be like. The cleanliness was second to none, the staff were efficient, helpful and ever so friendly and the food in the restaurant was so varied that even the fussiest of eaters would be impressed with a selection for all tastes and varied menus for dinner each evening. We stayed half board which was sufficient as there was a kitchenette in the apartment, with fridge, electric rings, and ample saucepans, cutlery and crockery. After sampling lunch one day which was fairly ordinary we felt we had definitely made the right choice, with supermarkets, restaurants, KFC, Pizza Hut all nearby. The entertainment in the hotel was excellent for our daughter, with us at all times she looked so forward to the mini-disco straight after dinner and the appearance of "Smilely" (a 6ft fluffy dog) every evening. The mini-club is for older children and would really suit ages 4 upwards. Needless to say, the hotel staff didn't mind us bringing our daughter with us to the hotel bar and keeping her there in her buggy once she had gone to sleep on the occassional night we did this. The cocktails were great and definitely recommended. All in all a fantastic holiday, albeit the weather a little unpredictable for the first week in May but we would definitely go back.
Ciudad Blanca, great for kids
from dtoeller
My husband, two children ages four and seven months, and I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Iberostar Ciudad Blanca in Mallorca. The staff was very attentive, the room clean and comfortable, the food good but repetitive, and a great location on the beach. The rooms are apartment style with a kitchenette (no microwave). We were quite comfortable, but I should warn those who wish to go to bed early not to stay in block 2, as it is directly attatched to the stage for the evening entertainment. We moved to block 3 which was much better for our kids. The beach is literally right behind the hotel is very clean even with peek season crowds. The water is very shallow for a great distance and I felt safe supervising my son just from the shore. It is a clean beach, but there are some that are even nicer just a short drive away. The all inclusive deal worked out well for us and it was great to be able to get a drink or snack for our older child at any time of the day. They also have a decent mini club with a playground and a full schedule of activities, for kids and adults alike. Every night there is a mini disco for the kids proceeded by a show for the whole family, but we were always getting ready for bed by then. As far as Alcudia goes, the Port and tourist areas are just shops, and more shops of all the same junk. Plenty of places to rent bikes, cars, etc. but we just arranged our rental with the front desk. The town of Alcudia however is a quaint little walled city that is tidy and interesting. I highly recomend a short trip to Pollenca. It has unique shops and in the center there is a chapel at the top of a 150 step hill. There is also a local potter who sells his one of a kind art for reasonable prices. The evening we went to Pollenca, all the people were setting up tables out in the street, preparing for an evening where everyone dines outside. It looked like lots of fun, but we had to go because our kids go to bed early. All in all a great hotel in a convenient location. Be sure to explore inland though.
Best hotel for many years
from Jaynez
Ciudad Blanca has the best accommodation and location in Alcudia. We have stayed here many times with our two children. The staff are very helpful and friendly, rooms are always very clean and comfortable. The two pools are never crowded and always clean. Most people stay all-inclusive, but it is possible to book accom., only and then convert to all-inclusive at a later time during your stay. The hotel enjoys a sandy beach front location, having a large footpath leading into the harbour, used by many people during the evening. The hotel is situated very close to shops, bars, and restaurants but is quiet at night when you need to get to sleep. There is a bus stop outside the hotel and local buses run regularly, but can become very crowded at times, I would recommend that you use a taxi to go to the markets. The taxi rank is at the end of the hotel, or can be ordered via the desk. The Roma Italian restaurant, and the Casa Del Dragon Chinese restaurant are just over the main road within easy walking distance, and serve lovely food. There are many, many others to choose from, all serving good food at reasonable prices. Entertainment at night in the hotel consists of a children's disco in the early evening and then family entertainment which is mainly provided by the entertainment teams miming to Grease, Lion King, and similiar, but children love it. We went to see the Pirates show in Magaluf, which was excellent, and I would recommend that if you visit Majorca you should go to see it, however the seating is a bit cramped. If you get the chance to visit Valldemossa, Deia, Soller, on the west of the Island, you would not be disappointed. Don't forget to take mosquito electric plug repellents for the room and lotion for going out in the evening. Alcudia is a busy resort with lots of quiet areas if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the shoping areas.
Great hotel for the discerning
from ShaneKing
I went with my wife and two children and we were delighted with this hotel. We went with the all inclusive package. Food - Excellent. Yes, you can have pizza and chips if you want but they have such a huge variety of food on offer. Beautiful fish dishes, steaks, chicken, salads, variety of cheeses. You will find eating here a real joy. Swimming pool and sun beds - The swimming pool is great. Decent size. I fretted before coming here about whether or not we would be able to get sunbeds. Yes, you do have a lot of Germans coming here and yes, people do reserve the sunbeds. However, there are a LOT of sunbeds and even at 7:30am you can get pretty much any bed you like. Sometimes, we forgot to reserve our beds and went to breakfast at 9:00am. We still managed to get four beds together. Other guests - Many nationalities here. I would say 40% German, 20% English and the rest a mix of French, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish etc. We were struck by how quiet the other guests were. All families. We didn't see any loutish behaviour here. It simply isn't that kind of place - all the other guests seemed quite respectful. We realised a few days into our holiday that this was the best hotel in the area. Warning ! The northern resort of Alcudia suffers from mosquitos. We were badly bitten the first two days that we were here and it made us quite miserable. However, we then proceeded to buy mosquito block (like a deodorant solid block) that we rubbed over our ankles and arms and we never got bitten after that. I wish the hotel had pre-warned us. We itched for nearly a week before protecting ourselves. This is the best advice I can give to you. Do not be put off coming here - just come prepared beforehand. We wen on some day trips but, surprisingly, the best days were had just lounging by the pool, helping ourselves to the drinks (the slushy pina colada is surprisingly strong !). The beach is literally adjacent and we often left our stuff on the sunbeds and walked 2 minutes into the sea. Lovely ! We were worried that our kit might be stolen at first but we shouldn't have worried. We left sunglasses, newspapers, books etc and they were never stolen. We really could not fault this hotel and I would consider myself a fussy, middle class person who does not like to be around loud, loutish people. You will enjoy the ambience if you are a decent family. The entertainment at night is not that great. Most nights it is resident staff just miming to stuff like Grease! but the young children will love Mr Smilie. If any of the fathers is asked to be Mr Smilie then I advise you to do it. It is great, great fun ! Trips - We went to the Pirates adventure and whilst the show really is good you do feel as if you have been "butlinised". What I mean by that is that they squah you in, give you [----] sausages, beans, chips etc and the seating arrangements make you feel that you have landed in Butlins. As I say, the show is world-class, a shame that they think you're a bunch of chavs who want nothing but to be crammed in and given junk food. We went to Marineland but were disappointed. We have been to Seaworld in Florida so we have been spoilt. The dolphin show is world-class but there is not much else to the resort to be honest. The private beach has filthy water full of seaweed and tiny bits of what I can only describe as bark. It was the high heason being August but the crowds spoiled the day. Heaving bodies everywhere. Not good.

I have recently returned from a weeks holiday with my husband at these apartments. Before going there I had emailed the hotel directly and asked for a room with a view over the beach. We stayed in block 2 and as requested had a lovely view over one of the pools and the beach and sea. The apartment was very clean and spacious. The pool areas and gardens are very well kept. There is a main pool which is the family pool and where most of the activities took place. we spent most of our time at the quieter pool where there were fewer children. We didn't have any problems getting sunbeds at this pool even at 12 noon but we did see quite a few beds reserved with towels although they were not used all day. Although these apartments were advertised as self catering in the brochure the majority of people here were staying on an all inclusive package. We didn't eat at all here so can't say what the food was like but breakfast for those not on all inclusive cos t 10 Euros each which is a bit steep. There are several restaurants nearby however where you can get breakfast for about 4 Euros. There didn't seem to be many English people at these apartments, they were mostly German and Spanish although that was not a problem. The beach is lovely and one of the main reasons we chose to stay at this complex as it is situated right on the beach. It is very wide and long with soft white sand. The water was clear and warm and very shallow. The location of the apartments is also ideal with many shops, bars and restaurants a couple of minutes walk away. Most restaurants served the same things - spaghetti bolognese, steaks, chicken and chips and we found them to be average. Two good bars to visit are Linekers and Cheers. Cheers is open until 6am and provides lots of entertainment especially for kids and also does good food. The port area is also a short walk along the beach and there you can find more bars and restaurants. One of the best bits of our holiday was a trip to the Pirates Adventure show which we would recommend for all ages. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed this break and would recommend these apartments as a good place to stay in a central location. Be aware that Palma airport is very strict with baggage allowance and you will be charged 7 Euros for every kilo that your party is over by.
Could Not Fault It !
from Mighty-Red
This hotel was genuinely hard to fault. We booked a taxi transfer so were at the hotel within an hour of landing at Palma - thoroughly recommended as a great start to the holiday. From booking-in when a porter immediately took our cases to our room right through to checking out, the service and attitude of the staff was excellent. All our requests were fulfilled, maybe helped by us booking with Thomas Cook whose rep (Rachel) was invaluable when we had to cut short the holiday through family illness. Went all-inclusive which, at the Ciudad Blanca is just that - we paid for nothing except beach sunbeds & banana-boating. Drinks were of good quality and queues were non-existent despite it being peak time. The hotel is located right on the beach and is set in beautiful gardens. Any blemish was corrected daily by the maintenence team - Iberostar clearly take quality seriously and have a pride in the hotel. The rooms are large, well equipped and all have views - ours being on a high floor and thus having a picture-postcard view over the beach as requested. The only comments that I would make are that the entertainment was not as good as it could have been (although dealing with 14 nationalities is tricky !), an outside bar away from the entertainment would have been a good idea, and the food, although excellent, could have become monotonous if we'd stayed a fortnight (there being only one restaurant). That said, the hotel is just a stones throw from other restaurants & night-life in Alcudia so being AI doesn't mean that you have to abandon use of your legs - plus the horse taxis depart from right outside ! Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here for 10 nights with my wife and daughter and my parents. Found the hotel decor very smart especially the landscaping around the surrounding grounds. The rooms were very clean and spacious and the balconies were like extra rooms. The cleaning staff were exellent,... more
