" Good hotel - shame about the hidden... "

Good hotel - shame about the hidden fees. Lovely hotel, clean, great view and good location for the pyramids but be warned that they will add 24% to all costs quoted in the hotel including room rate. Thus $240 per night becomes $300 per night when you come to check out - this is due to taxes and service but isn't mentioned anywhere in the hotel literature (though apparently it is in 'other information' on their website).

It's a bit of a trek from the aiport - but you are paying for the view of the pyramids so this can't be avoided! Took us close to 2 hours at 11pm at night! I think this was unusually long though - an hour seems about standard.

Don't book the hotel tours to the pyramids - they are vastly over priced vs local operators - to the tune of $172 for 2 people Vs $60. This reflects the hotel premium on the likes of food and drinks as well but that's to be expected from a major hotel chain I suppose and you are paying for health peace of mind as much as anything.

" We stayed here in March 2008, This... "

We stayed here in March 2008, This hotel has to be one of the best in Cairo if not the world everything is just wonderful It’s so close to the Pyramids you can nearly touch them.
Le Meridien Pyramids is located within walking distance of the Pyramids at Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, on the west bank of the River Nile and 10 km from Cairo. Bedrooms are well designed, clean, comfortably furnished and equipped with all modern amenities including air conditioning, telephone, television and minibar. The hotel offers a selection of restaurants providing cuisine from around the world, we loved the Nubian restaurant near the pool. Within the hotel there is a shopping arcade, beauty salon and swimming pool.
We were greeted in the lavish reception and lounge area of the hotel which simply took your breath away, especially the sweeping staircase.
We found the rooms, food, and service all excellent. This hotel has class, including uniformed bellboys in the lifts. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone staying a few nights in Cairo
I can't think of a bad thing about this hotel. It definitely deserves it's five star status.
As soon as you see the foyer you realised that this hotel is pure class.

" We stayed in this hotel on our way to... "

We stayed in this hotel on our way to a holiday on the Red Sea.

We asked for a pyramid view and boy did we get one. There is something surreal about throwing open your bedroom curtains in the morning and seeing the pyramids which are probably less than a mile from your bedroom window.

The hotel suggested we booked a car and guide for the afternoon as our time was limited. We got a Hertz car and uniformed driver for 3 hours for about twelve pounds sterling. He helped us get our tickets for the Pyramids, told us which things to see and what to avoid and generally looked after us for the afternoon; well worth the money.

We found the rooms, food, and service all excellent. This hotel has class, including uniformed bellboys in the lifts. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone staying a few nights in Cairo.

The only drawback, which the hotel can do nothing about, is that a very busy main road (I doubt if there is any other type in Cairo) runs past their front door.

I would love to go back.

" We have just returned from 6 nights... "

We have just returned from 6 nights at this hotel and it came up to all our expectations. We witnessed 3 weddings & although we felt that the rooms are in need of a spruce up this is gradually being done.

The food in all the restaurants is good and definitely value for money but imported drinks are expensive as is the wine which is of poor quality however Egypt is currently pretty cheap & the staff could not have been more helpful. Obviously we wanted to see as much of the historical side to Cairo as possible and generally book one or two tours when on holiday. However, we discussed this with the concierge and he suggested why we didn’t hire a vehicle, driver & guide, no doubt his cousin! We expected this to cost the earth but instead we got 4 half days visiting:

Pyramids & Sphinx in Giza.
Stepped pyramid at Saqqara & old capitol city of Memphis.
Mosque, citadel & old city in Cairo.
The Egyptian museum, with all the Tutankhamen artifacts, & Souk.

All this plus an evening Nile cruise with dinner & belly dancer as well as the Sound & Light show at the Pyramids for the princely sum of LE3 250 (£300) which we both thought excellent value for money. The young guide was very good her knowledge of Egyptian history being comprehensive & her English also being good.
Finally, one or two recommendations:

Don’t even consider renting a car as the Cairo traffic & driving conditions are beyond belief & need to be seen to be believed. Always without exception drink bottled water & think very carefully before accepting cold drinks offered in shops as you have no idea where the water comes from.

" I have just returned from a... "

I have just returned from a spectacular holiday in Egypt and needed to tell everyone about it...

As part of the holiday we had 3 nights stay at the Le Meridien Pyramids hotel, and it lived up the all the expectations you would expect from a well known hotel chain.

We were greeted in the lavish reception and lounge area of the hotel which simply took you breath away, especially the waterfall centrepiece by the sweeping staircase.

We booked a pyramid view room and we not disappointed in the view overlooking the pool area and as a backdrop the breathtaking pyramids.

The room was spacious and very clean and was serviced twice daily including a turndown service.

The pool area was clean and the pool itself was a welcome relief from the heat of the sun. The staff worked very hard to keep it looking pristine and look after you as best as possible.

We ate our breakfast in the main restaurant which offered a wide variety of foods and freshly squeezed fruit juices and again the service was top class.

Each evening we ate our dinner in Tex-Mex where we were welcomed each evening by the staff with friendly smiles. We ate there every night sampling the wide variety of Mexican dishes all of which were so lovely we had to finish the whole lot!

If anyone is looking to stay in this hotel it come thoroughly recommended and if I should return to Egypt I will definitely be checking into the Le Meridien again.

" Certainly one of the best hotels... "

Certainly one of the best hotels you'll find in Cairo. The thing which sets this hotel from the rest is typically it's location.

You come to this hotel to wake up with a view of the pyramids and that is exactly what you get! The hotel offers comfortable, very accommodating rooms and friendly staff are at your beckoned call.

A fabulous lobby area takes your breath away on arrival which opens out to a grand stairway. We managed to witness two weddings on this stairway and we were there just 2 nights.

The only negative point I'd have on this hotel would be the tight security. Armed guards at the entrance I found quite intimidating but then everywhere we went in Egypt seemed to follow suit.

" I have stayed at Meridien Pyramids 5... "

I have stayed at Meridien Pyramids 5 times now and what can I say.... if you want 5 star service then this is the place to go. Staff are fantastic, food is fabulous & the view from the rooms is fantastic... I always have a pyramid view room, just to see the sunset at night is a must in Egypt.

There is a lovely Shisha cafe here too, food is really nice in there and nice beer too...
Always greeted with a warm welcome at this hotel & cannot fault it in anyway.

" Our flight to Luxor was with... "

Our flight to Luxor was with egyptair, we found the service was excellent and the food was acceptable, as far as airline food goes. the rep at Luxor was called Mohammed (they were all called Mohammed!) Did everything for us, could not fault the service at all. Hotel was superb, a choice of three restaurants within the hotel and the courtyard within the hotel had music ever evening .the staff were courteous to the point of being slightly embarrassing, but better that way than the other.
Sheraton Cairo. Again we could not fault most things except we were given a room overlooking a derelict building on the 11th floor, we asked them to change the room and they did so straight away, a room on the 22 floor overlooking the Nile food was first class, Cairo itself was something else!!

We didn’t see the sun till mid afternoon due to the air pollution, but it was worth it, the sites were magnificent, we went on four trips in all and they were amazing, the pyramids, Cairo museum, valley of the kings at Luxor Karnack and Luxor temple, they all included a personal guide and transport, I must say I could not find fault with Thomas cook signature and would definitely use them again.
" I can't think of a bad thing about... "

I can't think of a bad thing about this hotel. It definitely deserves it's five star status.

As soon as you see the foyer you realised that this hotel is pure class.

We were on the ground floor of the hotel with a view of the excellent pool.

The room was immaculate, spacious with a mini bar and a free TV. There is also a high speed broadband connection if you have your laptop with you.

The pool and pool area are spotless, the pool is warm and has three round pool areas of varying depth’s connected together. You can see the Pyramids clearly from the pool. There is even a swim up bar.

There are four restaurants in the hotel, we only ate at one so cannot comment on the others but we presume that they are excellent. We ate in the same one as the breakfast is served in and were not disappointed.

The breakfasts are something else, there is a man cooking your eggs or omelettes to your liking. Freshly squeezed orange juice. All buffet style.

At night there is a four piece band playing in the bar, they are excellent, and there is a very relaxed atmosphere.

All of the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Presumably you will be going to the Pyramids which as you would expect are breathtaking. We would recommend if you can to go inside the great pyramid.
The light show is also excellent. If you went to the one at Karnak in Luxor do not be put off by that one.

We went on the tour with our operator to the step pyramid as Sakkara, this is fascinating and the oldest pyramid in Egypt. We were also taken to the Citadel which is very impressive.

The Cairo museum is also a must, mainly because of King Tutankhamen's treasures which are amazing.

You will probably need only three days to do all of the sights in Cairo.

This hotel is how we will mark all others.
