An 'interesting' hotel. Disappointed overall with the service and layout of the hotel itself. seems more geared to the 'inclusive set' rather than those on half board, B&B and self catering. Bar and restaurant in particular we found the most disappointing. Staff not really giving the impression of wanting to be there- it's just a job attitude and who could blame them as some guests quite rude. Room and accommodation we were happy with, clean, we had a reasonable view and our room maid was quite a joy, but this is not a four star hotel. Trying to sit by the pool was a joke so if you are prepared to get up at the crack of dawn and put your towel on a sun bed then you will need to do this!
There are are no quiet areas as such and to say this is a 'quiet' family hotel would be an interesting debate - as we were had no where to sit during the day and on our second night we were 'entertained' by a singing duo in the room below from a family-singing the 'wild rover' and 'danny boy' at 2 am (children were also dancing and bouncing around)- obviously getting their money's worth from the all inclusive deal!!!! The icing on the cake was when the lift broke down and we had to climb up 3 flights of stairs, not impressed as one of us had mobility difficulties. A bit rundown and could do with a bit of updating. Possibly ok for families ( and spanish speakers) but not for couples.... We ended up eating out as there are plenty good places to eat- buffet we felt was the same most eveings and never opened on time.
it is a good location but that is all.

When arriving at the hotel we got there quite late in the evening and was last to be given a room. When we got to the apartment i was less than impressed. Our balcony was directly above the hotel entrance and the S of Sol Lanzarote sign was practically on the balcony. I went back down to reception but was told to come again in the morning as the hotel was full but there was people leaving tomorrow. We both had a terrible sleep an i went straight to reception when the sun came up. The hotel staff were brilliant not only did they change our room as promised but we had a spectacular sea/pool veiw. When we got to the room they had made a real effort with flower petals sprinkled around and even made a swan out of one of the towels in the bathroom. The rooms are fab and homely there and the bathroom is very modern with a great powerful shower. The pool area was spotless although the pool was always freezing and the beach is right outside the gate by the pool. 2mins walk away there is a little centre with shops, restaruants and bars. If you want to go into the main town of puerto del carmen you will have to get a taxi to far to walk it. Costs around 5-6 Euros but no hassel as taxis everywhere. Also the old town is worth a visit just ask the cabbie to take you there about 7-8 euros. Overall a great holiday. My sister is staying at sol lanzarote this September as such a good hotel.

A great hotel but I must say unless you were prepaired to get up at 6.30-7am to get a bed then you would be out of luck.
people came down and put there towels out and went back to bed or breakfast, some people even came back about 5pm to take them off after they had not used them all day.
The Hotel never dealt with the situation.
No bar staff. Only 3 and they didnt seem to be bothered.
Rooms clean and nice and big but would never go back.

The Sol apartments were great. We had a self catering apartment on half board. The food at the resturant was the best I've ever had on a holiday. There was lots of dishes to choose from, some cooked in front of you. you could go up to the buffet as many times as you wanted and believe you me we wanted to. Beautifuly cooked and tasted great. The resturant could open up onto the pool. So you could have a lovely evening meal by a floodlit pool under the palm trees. The staff were very friendly and funny. The pool was very good. surrounded by palm trees for shade. Local bars were good. There were long coffee coloured beaches. The island itself was not to my liking. There is no greenery on the island as it is volcanic. All black lava everywere. A week of no grass or trees was enough for me.

Just got back from a 2 week stay at the Sol Lanzarote.
When we arrived at around 2.00pm our rooms weren’t ready, we were told we couldn’t check in until around 4.00 or 5.00pm so that was annoying, we had to wait around while our rooms were being cleaned! Not good really after a 4 1/2 hour flight.
Weather was lovely-didn't expect it to be so hot, it was just right for the kids as it wasn't boiling. The hotel is very clean and tidy, the rooms are cleaned every day also beds and towels changed every day.
We stayed in the apartments which are really spacious. Massive bedroom and bathroom and a nice bed settee that pulls out to a double bed. The kitchen part was really small though and we had to hire a toaster & kettle from reception! A large group of us went so we had 3 rooms in total, in our kitchen we had ants on the work surface, I didn’t see them anywhere else in the room only on the worktops but they aren't like our ants, you can hardly see them, so look out for these just incase, you don’t want ants in your pants do you? especially Spanish ones!
Anyway in the bathroom in the apartment the shower door was glass! It’s quite dangerous as it bangs against the ceramic sink unit next to it, our little boy knocked it a few times so be careful of this.
The pools are nice - apparently they are salt water pools? I don't know, as I didn’t swallow any of the water. However, my nephew did a number of occasions and was sick a few times on the evening - not sure if it was anything to do with the pool water or just a dodgy tummy but the doctor said a few other people in the hotel were sick too!
The entertainment staff were brilliant with the kids and the shows on the evening were all professional shows - for the whole 2 weeks we were there (when I’ve been away before the entertainment team in the hotel often put on a show or 10!! but these shows at the Sol Lanzarote were all really good acts - brilliant).
When you come out of the hotel (the back way onto the beach front) you can either turn left where there is quite a few cafes ,bars & restaurants also there’s a brilliant karaoke bar on the night called Chev's its up a flight of stairs above a Chinese restaurant, this is about 2 minutes away. If you turn right there are a number of bars and shops about a 5 minute walk away.
We had never been to Lanzarote before and didn't know what to expect as we normally go to Benidorm or Majorca to livelier resorts but we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back.

A second visit for my wife and I to this Sol Melia Hotel. Our first visit in 2003 was great and the second visit didn't let us down.
Our room balcony looked out to the sea and was a fantastic sheltered sun trap even when the Sirocco was blowing 'good style'.
Great staff, great food within the hotel restaurant and pool bar, chambermaid service that matches the very best of hotels sets the Sol Lanzarote at the top of the league for places to stay in Lanzarote.
We had 14 days of hassle free holiday from a superb base, to tour and explore the island. Many thanks to all at the hotel that made a good holiday great.

Absolutely brilliant holiday, fab resort. The hotel is just great ideal for families and kids although I went alone and I was well catered for too.
I will definitely go again and next time will take my granddaughter. The staff are great the entertainment is good and other places are well within walking distance if you want them.
The food was great and the room had a well fitted kitchen area in case you wanted to prepare your own food. It is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms were clean and had everything I needed they were cleaned every day, the beds made and towels changed every day. I got a great last minute deal, worth every penny. Highly recommended.

I stayed here with my husband, son and mother and father in law, and I can honestly say it was the best holiday I have ever had, the hotel is immaculate and the rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels left, we stayed half board and the food service was absolutely wonderful, there was different food every evening and always tasted amazing.
This location is ideal for young families and we hardly ever left the complex in the evening as the entertainment was so good, the staff really make you feel at home and there are always plenty of activities to join in with for adults and for children.

We stayed at this hotel in Sept 2008 for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time. We were half board and really enjoyed the food although there could have been a little more choice, we have stayed in Sol hotels before and because of this we knew we would have a good holiday. The hotel layout was a little unusal but after a few days we got our bearings. The pathways could be slippy after rain and some are quite steep but you can get a pushchair around no probs. Our room was huge with a kitchenette and seperate bedroom area. Staff were friendly, and the entertainment was great for kids and big kids alike. Beach was opposite the hotel and local shops and restaurants in Matagorda. Puerto Del Carmen only a 5 minute cab ride away. I got an ear infection and cant fault the medical teams over there, we had to use a German doctors surgery in Puerto Del Carmen as English one was always closed in Matagorda they were excellent and spoke really good English. If you need to use the doctors while there make sure you keep in contact with your insurance company and keep all paper work. Really enjoyed this break, and would go back to the hotel again! And if we ever fell ill whilst there, you receive the best care!
