well what can i say , the first impression were distuging and horrible. They failed to improve upon my first impressions. My room was a total mess, the balcony was covered in bird droppings which caused it to be infested with insects. Which lead to me and my partner having serval bites in very uncomfortable places.
After getting over the ordeal of the room, the problems contined to the pool area, or should i say the bird bath. as there was only room for one person to swim at a time. this was very upsetting as i am a very keen swimmer. this lead to me having to swim only in the sea, which gave me serious rashes. i informed the hotel staff but they just told me to get over the matter. These rashes cause me horrific pain. this just topped off the holiday.
i would never go back there again, seeing as though the rashes progressed as i went home, leading me to scars that will never fade , and this will always be a reminder of this nightmare
thankyou for nothing!

Thomas Cook Package Holiday to Lanzarote
Thursday 22nd April 2010 to Thursday 29th April 2010 ( 7 Nights )
Accommodation Occidental Grand Teguise Playa
Resort Costa Teguise, Lanzarote
The hotel room was tired and the standard of maintenance in the bathroom was very poor. A large hole around the waste overflow had been filled with silicon filler which had dripped around the plughole, other holes in the bath had also been filled.
On arrival the staff were efficient in killing the hundreds of small flies (crawlies) located near the fridge and patio doors.
I was disgusted with the restaurant approach to the distribution of wine. Unbottled left over wine, served to customers in a carafe was cleared from tables, topped up and resold to other unsuspecting customers. No hygiene rules apply to some of the staff.
The selection and quality of food served was good but I hope more care was taken with the food preparation than the wine distribution.
I did receive 3 free bottles of unopened wine as compensation.
I did not meet the Thomas Cook Rep. ( No welcome pack) but they must have been very busy repatriating guests back to the UK.
Overall a good holiday with reservations.

This hotel is in a perfect spot in Costa Teguise, everything can be reached by a short stroll. The hotel is set next to the beach, with wonderful deep balconies to enjoy the sea view.
The hotel is definitely in need of a refurb, fixtures and fittings are very tired looking. However, the cleanliness is of a very high standard throughout. The rooms are of an adequate size and fittings are tired, but the balcony makes up for a lot, so much space, not overlooked at all, and wonderful views. In April, the weather is a little unpredictable, and certainly very windy, but there is always a sheltered spot on the balcony - perfect!
Food here was excellent - great choice, well cooked and really hot plates - something we rarely get on holiday!
We (myself, husband and 13-year-old son) had one of our best holidays here. I would thoroughly recommend. Get your drinks elsewhere, bar prices (as with all hotels) are where they make their profits. You will be spoilt for choice for bars, try a different one each night - we did!

We stayed there last week for 2 nights. The place was good; and as I read from other previous reviews, after one good look around, one can understand that this property has seen better times. The food was great (both breakfast and dinner); we had the opportunity to avail the seafood night. However, on the seafood night, there were very little options for those (like my wife, for example) who did not like seafood. Also, some of the floor tiles (2 in fact) in the room were unstable. Also, the shower could have been better (the water flow was less than expected). The rooms were serviced daily. We stayed on one fag end of the left wing on 4th floor; had some great views of the beach (El Jabillo). the daily programme was entertaining. I found one particular bar-staff quite annoying (and destracting) as he was more interested in showing his antics during the daily entertainment programme. This is also close to the shopping complex; (try out the grilled lamb at Mastil nearby). I would definitely recommend this place to someone who visits Costa Teguise.

We stayed at the hotel after been told our original hotel was overbooked. When we arrived the first impressions was wow, that’s where it ended.
The food was ok but not much choice for children. The bar staff were very arrogant and inept except for if you were half board. The bar staff were only interested in getting tips, so concentrated there entire night on half boarders.
Day time entertainment was ok if you had children up to the age of twelve, or an adult nothing for the teenagers. Evening entertainment made you feel like you were on a saga holiday.
Children were harassed by the security staff as they had to make there own fun in an evening so played hide and seek and tiggy much to the hotels disgust.
We made friends with a lady and her grandson who originally were half board and upgraded to all inclusive as she was told that it included the snack bar which served hotdogs etc which was the only food her grandson would eat but was shocked to discover that she had been sold it wrongly as you still had to pay at this bar.
We would not visit this hotel again and do not recommend it for children.

We have just come back from Lanzarote, we stayed in the Occidental Grand Teguise Player,it is a fantastic hotel,we had a great view of the beach and some of the poolside area. I would recomend this hotel to everyone, the food was very good with good selection of choice. The hotel was very clean. The entertainment was very good, with profesional shows each night. I think it is truly a 4star hotel.

This was our second stay at the hotel, so we pretty well knew what to expect.
The hotel's location by the beach with all rooms having a sea facing balcony is second to none. The opulence of the place is apparent from the first exterior view, through the very impressive reception area.
Signs of shabbiness are beginning to creep into the rooms though, and the carpet in the corridor outside our rooms was also looking past its best.
Service continues to be excellent, with nothing too much trouble. The food is superb and, if you have breakfast included expect a real treat. The variety is enormous in a room to match. You do feel less guilty as you mount up the calories as you burn off at least some of them with the walk around the room picking off various favourites.
The one growing frustration is the reserving of the sun-beds. As each room overlooks the leisure area you can see some guests reserving their places as early as 7 in the morning.
What can also be guaranteed is that the same beds will remain unoccupied several hours later. Definitely not an English habit, but I suspect we are catching up these days. Make a point of complaining about this frustration and something may eventually be done.
The other amenities at the hotel are wide and excellent. Something for everybody. The evening entertainment included some gems - a Platters tribute and an illusion act particularly remain in the memory.
The resort is busy but retains peaceful and quiet overall. Loads of places to eat and drink. If you like steak try the Tournedos Rossini in La Provence (opposite the Occidental). It was great 3 years ago but I was overjoyed to find it had retained its quality.
If you're a Guinness lover you must try the Black Bull pub (they also do a really excellent Sunday Roast). No complaints with the cuisine then.
Compared to other spots on the island the shops are looking a little in need of a face lift.
We went to the Plays Blanca and found it buzzing, full of good shops and all the paintwork sparkled! Too many hard sellers in the shops (or standing outside them) though.
Lovely holiday. Just those little frustrations like sun-beds!

Have stayed at this hotel every year since 2000 and the older the hotel is the better it was! What staff there are ensure customers are well-looked after. However, the number of staff has been reduced greatly in the last year. One attraction was always the Aliosis Bar where the seating area rotated during the evening - this year it was hard to even get served. Service to customers sitting away from the main bar was non-existent.
Rooms are cleaned to a high standard but are starting to look shabby and the bathrooms definitely need attention. Future plans to become 'all inclusive' looks as if it will mean standards will drop even further. If you want a sun bed with a shade then you will need to be up by 6.00 am because it is no longer hotel policy to remove towels placed before 9.00 am.
Reasonable selection of food served but again a drop in standards with only one set of cutlery being laid meaning you need to seek out a member of staff for subsequent courses. No implementation of evening dress code in restaurant either.

The hotel reception and bar area is wonderful the staff are lovely, polite and helpful, the location is fantastic but the food is no more than ok the entertainment is poor and the rooms are no more than 2 star.
The bathroom was shabby infact the room was shabby altogether. We book 4 star because we want overall good accommodation on this occasion we didn’t get it. My comments on leaving were much the same.
We asked the hotel to go look at places like Atlantis Palace in Fuerteventura and Barcelo Margaritas at Grand Canaria both excellent examples of 4 star being 4 star not 2-3 star playing at being 4 star.

Hi I went to Occidental Grand on 20th March for a weeks break, I went with Thomas Cook the flight was spot on going and coming back.
We had to walk round for one hour when we first arrived as our room was not ready, The room was ok had everything that you needed cleaned rooms every day not spotless I admit. There is a hairdryer in room and you can hire towels when you first arrive 10 euros deposit which you get back when you leave just go to dive centre every day and get new ones saves on luggage. There is a nice balacony and lovely views of pool and see from majority of rooms beware of travel agents charging you to pay extra for sea view which had happened to a couple that I met.
The food is ok bit cold and not lots of choice I have eaten at much better AI hotels even in Turkey.
The entertainment what we saw of it was not for the squemish unless you like parrot shows but hey as one of other reviews say AI hotels do not want you to stay in can you blame them, there was only one pool bar open in day which closed at 6 and evening one opened so should imagine lots of queues in Summer.
As i had checked out prices for AI and SC there was not lots of difference so we did go out a lot. The British bulldog round the corner is good for karaoke and bit of fun but in the square there is Hooks bar that does fantastic cocktails a really nice Irish bar and on the beach front there are lots of different bars to choose from. Be very careful of luggage allowance we were 3k over and were charged 24 euros but you have to walk for miles to pay it with every one in airport queue watching quite embarrassing All in all we had a lovely break it is a very relaxing resort even tho there are enough bars and restaurants within easy walking distance to hotel I would go back to hotel but would not pay a lot for it.
