It was a good experience, Sunway Lagoon is a place for family to enjoy the sun, theme parks both water and dry parks. There are fabulous shop outlets at the big shopping mall just beside the hotel with a skating ring on the ground level. There are also many eating outlets,... more

This hotel is not 5star , it is all about the location to the Theme park and adjoing shopping centre. Things in the room did not work and the staff tried to overcharge us. The rooms are comfortable and we had a good view over the theme park. We thought the buffet breakfast was ordianry with most of food cold as it was sitting there too long. The resort has a great pool and is in a great location for the theme park and some great shopping next door. There is no information available for the theme park once you get there so try and do some reasearch. Some tips for the theme park - 1. they have lockers throughout the park $3rm every time you access it. 2. it is on a few levels with the waterpark down the bottom getting very busy in the afternoon as it heats up. 3. you need cash to pay for tubes at the waterpark - but once purchased you can leave them with them and get them as required. 4. you cannot take in food and drinks - and they do check. The park is great our 4 year old had a great time altough missing out on a few due to height restrictions.
Excellent accomodation & service
We spent 3 nights at the hotel on our way home from our tiring Europe / U.K holiday to allow us to relax prior to coming home. I contacted the resident manager (Ian Ekers) prior to our visit requesting specific requirements (connecting rooms & non-smoking etc) to ensure we had a pleasant stay. We found Ian & his staff extremely professional, responsive & accommodating to any of our needs. We arrived early in the morning from a long flight from Heathrow & the staff quickly organised our rooms for a very early check in to allow us to rest up. They even provided us breakfast whilst waiting for our rooms to be cleaned / made up! The accommodation, breakfast & adjoining theme park were fantastic. We would definitely recommend this hotel for family stays.
Very disappointed by Sunway Lagoon Resport Hotel
I stayed as the Sunway Lagoon Resort in a club executive suite with my husband and 2 small children for 8 nights. Firstly the club executive suite is not worth the money, you would be better off getting 2 interconnecting deluxe rooms which would also work out to be much much cheaper than what we paid. The room was very very small and furniture very old, antique style, and very uncomfortable. My back was so sore from the bed which was like sleeping on a hard floor. Even more disappointing, a few doors up the we saw another room they also called the club executive suite and charged the same rate for which was triple the size. I felt misled by their reservations team who told me the rooms were huge. And for people who like to watch TV there are very few channels to view. I felt the rooms were not cleaned very well either, sometimes having to request simple tasks from the maid. We had requested early on for a non smoking suite and got a smoking, the hotel was full and they couldn't move us. This ruined our holiday as the people next door were smoking non stop and our room stunk. went swimming with my daughter in their pool which looked fine to me and over the next couple of days we both came down extremely ill, so ill that we had to call in a doctor who wanted to put my 3 year old in hospital on a drip. The doctor told me that he treated many children who swam in the pool with stomach problems so for those of you who love to swim, try not to swallow the water. I felt the theme park next door was average but for those who have small kids I would advise to avoid this at all costs, my 1 year old fell extremely ill after swimming in the childrens pool. The slippery slides were full of mould that had obviously built up over a long period and your skin really smelt after touching the slides. And just in case your wondering, the doctor ruled out food poisening. The shopping centre next door was good if you prefer local type shopping centres. We preferred the shopping downtown, much more variety, so would definitely stay downtown next visit. I couldn't complain about the breakfast as this was awesome but would definitely recommend getting there early. Its a shame they don't pay as much attention to their rooms as they do to their reception area. The concierge seemed helpful enough and always polite. This was my 3rd trip to Malaysia and I have never been so happy to leave. I look forward to visiting again but at another property.
Double-check your bookings!!
I've stayed at his hotel twice, once Sept03, and Apr06. My parents are Sunway-members, so we get a discounted rate, so it could be that's why my stay have been such disasters?? Because we're paying less than their usual customers, or it could be that the management is terrible, and needs improvement. Sept03: We had our wedding here. Imagine our surprise (and outrage) when all the rooms that we've booked for our wedding guests were cancelled. The reason: we didn't leave a credit card to hold the rooms. We would have, if we'd been asked!! The duty manager apologised, but we didn't have our rooms back, our friends had to be moved to a nearby hotel for the same rate. At least we still had our honeymoon suite, think there would have been murder if they had cancelled that! Apr06: The check-in time is at 4pm. We requested an early check-in, and was told that it would not be a problem. We called on the morning of our stay to confirm that we could check-in by 2pm (which is the USUAL check-in time for 90% of hotels!!), and we were told that our room was already vacant and ready. I reminded them that we had booked a NON-SMOKING room with a king-sized bed. When we arrived at 2pm, we were told that our room wasnt ready. We were finally given a smoke-filled room at 4:45pm. After complaining, we were moved to another room. By this time, it was almost 6pm. The rooms are very average, it's quite complete with amenities, but it's a case of "so-what?" After the hours of waiting, we were exhausted, and felt very disappointed. I think the reservations department is in serious need of a new management team. I think the decor's a bit too tired and old to qualify for its high rating. The suites don't feel luxurious, they just have an extra sitting area. All in all, the rooms let you down once you've seen the impressive reception area. There's nothing wrong with the hotel besides the poor management, but it doesn't present you with the feeling of being in a luxury hotel as one would expect. Do like the convenience of being right next door to Pyramid Shopping Mall.
Nothing special for the price
Very grand exterior and lobby, but rooms, although clean and comfortable were pretty average. When we visited the direct entrance to the waterpark from the hotel was closed, so we had to walk through a shopping mall and multi-storey carpark to reach it. A huge section of the waterpark was also closed for refurbishment and it was horrendously busy (and dirty) at the weekend. Until this problem has been addressed I wouldn't recommend staying for a family themepark break: save your money - stay somewhere cheaper and get a taxi to a waterpark! Staff however were friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast was good.
Malaysia is one big shopping mall
My family of 4 visited Sunway during the week of Hari Raya. Wow!!! it was really busy and crowded. But, we had a good time. Positives 1. If you have children the theme park is Awesome and has a lot of wet and dry activities. 2. The Resort Hotel is connected to a shopping mall, with ice skating, restaurants, but no movie theatre. 3. The decor is majestic and great for photos. 4. We were driving and found our way to Kuala Lumpur rather easily where the Twin Towers turned out to be one big shopping mall as well. 5. Buffet Breakfast was great. We visited during a busy holiday season so I thought the staff did really well to satisfy all the guest.( pancakes, waffles, omelettes, and international fair) 6. Parking was free Negativies 1. Do not get a room on the 12th floor. It's beneath the lobby and people will be walking on your head, all hours of the night. 2. Day trips were cancelled during the holiday week. They missed out on a lot of money. 3. My daughter threw up near the pool and they were pretty slow to clean it up. I was a tad bit embarrassed but no worries. We laughed about it later. 4. We stayed in a suite. And in the states a suite usually has a let-out couch. Not this time. The suite was nice and spacious. But the girls had to camp out on the floor. Extra bed 91RM. 5. Watch your children closely. African-Americans and caucasians with blonde or red hair are rare. Locals may asks to take pictures with you or grab your kids by the cheeks to say hello. 6. Ladies although Malaysia is a Muslim country you can wear what you want. But if you dress to revealing you may feel a bit uncomfortable because men will stare. So since the weather is hot, cool and conservative is the way to go. Overall we had a great time. And weren't ready to leave. We didn't get a chance to go ice skating, and I could've done more shopping. I would stay at Sunway again. But next time we will try the villas. This time we stayed in the Resort Hotel.
Excellent Hotel
We have just returned from 8 nights at the Sunway Lagoon Resort - we being my husband, myself and two kids (9 & 7). There is virtually no comparison in Australia to the hotel ( well maybe the Versace Hotel in QLD) for its grandeur and decoration - totally awesome - the rooms (we had connecting) were roomy, clean (serviced everyday) but a little noisy but it was mainly because there are so many families staying there. The buffet breakfast was excellent - the kids were hanging out for bacon though (muslim hotel - no pork) we also had two buffet night meals which were also good - but mainly we just walked over to the shopping mall - covered walkway from hotel - where there are about 150 restaurants of every description and also a third of the price! So suggestions to prospective travellors - don't get transfers included in package (we had them taken out of our package agents allowed AU$250 (can you believe!!) It actually cost us from airport in Airport Limo 78 Ringit ($25 AU) (coupons available at exit of terminal) Taxis would be probably cheaper. Shopping is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Malaysia has its Mega Sale from 25 July - 5 Sept and there are bargains up to 80-90% off - so booking during this time would be advisable. Water theme park was excellent no queues people are very civilised there and all the rides are manned so if you require any help there is always someone there. So to wrap up - our kids had a ball (why wouldnt they it is a total kids paradise!!!!) we managed to relax a little and enjoy the warmth. Highly recommended - my only criticism that its geographically not to good way to far out of the city, chinatown etc but hey you cant have everything!!
Not good for business travellers
I stayed there one nite. I'm sure a delight for young kids and their parents but as a business traveller my experience : - non-working internet connection in intial room, I moved room and it still didn't work until they replaced the router (not much fun when this happens at 11pm and you need to do work) - the lobby and main bar is located in the middle of the hotel, this makes it such that noise from the band in the lobby travels across the hotel several floors below and above the lobby - band palys until wee hours of the morning when I was there on a weekday - high volume of families and kids use this hotel which makes it (i) noisy, every other room has noisy kids which is not conductive to a business traveller (ii) overworks the staff, I couldn't get through to the switch board and room service never turned up even after 40 mins (Advertised time I was told is 15 mins) (iii) how much use are theme rooms to a business traveller ? Problems like these happen I'm sure in any hotel and they did move my room and were attentive to the issues but traveller beware and make sure you get the right kind of room. Redeeming point, again not so much use if you are a business traveller, but the hotel is near the hopping centre and adjacent theme partk. The staff did pay attention to my complaints but I think this is a managment issue to address the needs of the business traveller more attentively - especially if a quite room, room service and working internet is needed afer a long day on the road.
Loved the Place !
We were on our honeymoon, and we booked Sunway Lagoon for our first days in KL. When we arrived the reception told us that our room is not ready although we have booked it a month in advance ! We were very angry, esp. after a 15 hour flight we needed to rest... They gave us an offer, for we were Honeymooners, that we can stay at one of their Villa's. The Villa was around $750 per night and we immeditly agreed .. The Villa was magnificent, they have put so much afford in making it seem like paradise.... We really enjoyed it, and we felt more safe there. We visited the "'Sunway Pyramid'" shopping center a couple of times, and the theme park were we enjoyed our selves. I will recommend this luxury hotel for anyone who is willing to visit Malaysia. I, myself will ofcourse visit it again.
Nice resort hotel in suburban KL
Stayed here in two occasions in 2003 and 2004. There are many advantages: - Located in suburban KL. Close many residential centres and hence convenient to visit friends while avoiding the KL traffic jam. - Next to the Sunway Lagoon amusement park( great for older children) - Next to Sunway pyramid shopping centre ( can shop at very reasonable prices and can eat at their restaurants and food centres) - Next to residential areas and can shop and eat with the locals - The Chinese and the Italian restaurant is excellent in terms of service and food and value for money. The coffee shop buffet is great too and the Middle Eastern cuisine is authentic. - The swimming pool is amongst the best in major hotels in KL - The lobby and the hotel facilities are luxuriously designed like a palace. - The top floor has a executive centre which is excellent for reading or staging There are however also some shortcomings, mainly with the management: - The restaurant service, especially at the coffee shop, was not too good. The food were delivered slow and there is lack in attention to detail required in a 5 star facility. - The check-in / check-out was inefficient and they mixed up bookings at both times. Also rather rigid and unfriendly. They gave me the wrong type of suite at check in but refused to admit to the error. I asked for an extra bed for my child but was denied straight away. Both mistakes were easily fixed when I spoke to another staff moments later. Such examples occured many times during my stays. - I stayed in a theme designed suite but really was disappointed since it was not well maintained eg the carpet has stains, the paintwork is peeling or the furniture chipped and old. - The concierge is not helpful (using the service of other 5 star KL hotels as benchmarks). - Only way to travel to KL city centre is by taxi. Its a long trip and sometimes taxi drivers may refuse to take you back to Sunway from KL due to the traffic jams. The hotel is on the whole very good but the service is not exactly 5-star and the management is not world class. Still to be recommended as the flaws are relatively minor.
