We booked with Jewels of the World because we believed them to be a reputable company. Flew out 9th August from Manchester airport. Plane due to leave at 21.30 delayed until 23.45, nobody came to explain the reason or offer refreshments. On arriving at Ercan there was no bus to meet us. Waited half hour and phoned hotel. They told us to get a taxi and they would reimburse us. Eventually arrived at the hotel at 10am. The brochure had said the hotel was a 3 star hotel with recent updating to a good standard. They were wrong.
The hotel is in a dilapidated state. We had booked an adjoining room which we got. Our room was dirty with scuff marks on the walls. There was blood from insects which the previous occupants had killed also on the walls. The bathroom was ok but the shower was positioned so badly you had to kneel down to use it. There were no plugs for the sink. In the bedroom the door stop was actually a reinforcing rod that was left exposed. Consequently when you moved about the room you were hitting your foot on it, very painful. At night cockroaches would come out of the bathroom.
The back of the hotel was just a dumping ground for any old rubbish from building materials to old bottles and waste.
The hotels beach was dirty. The sea was filthy and when you swam in it you were swimming with rubbish which ranged from carrier bags to sanitary towels.
The hotels restaurant was ok. The food was good if not a little pricey. The kitchen was situated below where a smell of blocked drains pervaded the air. Read into that what you will.
Northern Cyprus was quite nice. The people very friendly. Weather excellent. My one complaint is litter is just strewn about all over the place. Kyrenia very nice. Salamis well worth a visit and the Panhandle is exceptionally beautiful.
If I were to visit Northern Cyprus again I would never use Jewels of the World and if you do please be aware from us and other people they are not reliable.
