Very clean
Arrived at the hotel early hours of the morning...greeted by very miserable reception staff. We were hungry as we hadnt eaten on the plane, but there was not even a bottle of water available for our 3 kids. Walked to our apartment ..dragging cases and 3 kids at 2.30am was not a pleasure, especially as it was the apartment furthest away. 2 bed appartment, very clean and comfortable with double aspect views and wonderful airconditioning. The only problem waws that there was no where to hang the shower head when having a shower...so i had to hold it over my husband ! Had to have your sunbed saved with a towel by 8am latest. I loved sitting on the beach as there were lovely breezes...the sea and view over to the Turkish coast was stunning. Lots and lots of German guests...entertainment in German...the karaoke was hilarious !!!!! Food was plentiful and delicious, but the deserts were boring. Bar staff very friendly indeed. We hired a car and went around the island, the hotel is very secluded, so you can't just walk to nearby town and shops very easily. Overall it was a lovely restful time for us and the three kids loved the pools.
Good time was had by all but..
We stayed at the hotel for 11 days and can advise anybody who is going to stay the following: Weather not guaranteed as we know but it is fanastic not a cloud in the sky, hotel complex good and you can see it's only 2 year old, the gardens were well kept and somebody was always working on them. Food was very good with a wide selection at all times. Staff were okay, cleaner was very friendly and we had maid service every day and fresh towes and linen regularly. Now the downside to it - Germans we were outnumbered by 9 to 1 i think. They don't like to queue and will not use the word excuse me or sorry when bumbing into anybody. Eentertainment at night for the germans only, we sat in the inside bar and talked with other brits. Apart from that it was a good break and i would say it's probably a 3+ rating.
look elsewhere
just arrived back in old blighty and can honestly say,i am not too sorry to be home. Kos Aqua club is definately not geared up for any nationality other than German, the hotel is run very poorly incomparison to other all inclusive resorts especially those in Turkey that we have visited, we stayed for 10 days and although we owuld say the rooms are very clean and comfortable you need to consider this is a very new hotel, apart from the rooms and the wave pool there is not a lot of positive things we could mention about the place, food is often cold and can be found on the floor of the restaurant (more like a noisy school canteen)be careful not to slip up and fall as our mother did, none of the staff came to her help or even enquired how she was after a visit to the hotel doctor who gave her a injection to relieve the pain (70 Euros) so be very watchful when you walk around the restaurant as 2 other guests also fell as the staf brush the food of the tables straight onto the floor and then leave it there for the unwary guests to find sometimes to there misfortune, the bars have a 2 drink rule which they enforce at there discretion so in the evening if they decide counting beyond the number 2 becomes to much for them, plant some of your friends around the bar and you can all get 2 drinks and sit down to drink them together, i could go on and on but will leave you with the same old story of sunbeds, yep! you need to get up early 7.30 should do it, the staff are aware of the problem and will ocasionaly collect the towels on unattended beds but this only occured once when we were there, so if you have already booked, it is not a dive just don't have any great expectations, if you haven't booked try the al inclusive resorts in Antalya in Turkey, they are light years ahead,
our stay
After lots of research we booked this property as we have two children aged 4 and 2 and thought the aqua beach would be perfect. We flew out for 2 weeks on the 26th July with Mytravel, the plane and crew were awful. It was the dirtiest plane i have ever been on, the cabin crew were rude and everything seemed to be too much trouble. We arrived in Kos and easily got a taxi to the the hotel (23 euros) which wasn't too far away. We booked in and were given a map with our apartment circled and off we went, 4 suitcases 2 children our hand luggage in 40 degrees of heat! Unfortunately we were the apartment furthest away and at the top of the block! The rooms were lovely, we had a 2 bed with sea view. The main bedroom was large, with a huge bed and balcony. The smaller room had a double sofa bed and a single and a balcony, it also had the large wardrobe. The bathroom was a good size with a whirlpool bath and hand shower. Having been to Greek islands before we went prepared with little battery lights in case of power cuts but never experienced one. The water was always hot, whatever the time of day. The hotel and facilities themselves were good. Our only problem was the way breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. All meals are buffet style in the main restaurant. You find yourself a table, leaving someone with it, then go and join the scrum. The majority of the guests were not English and didn't seem to have heard of queuing. The food itself was good. Breakfast was cereals, continental or full english. Lunch and dinner were always 2 choices of meat (beef, pork, chicken, turkey, veal, lamb) Two choices of potato, one of them was always chips. pastas and salads. The desserts were a bit samey though. There was one type of beer and one red and one white wine on tap to help yourself to and a choice of fizzy drinks. The pools were the reason we went and we weren't disapointed. The children loved the slide pool and would have happily gone up and down all day. The wave pool was great too and the lotus pool which our children called the "jumping in" pool, all the pools were fairly clean. Sunbeds were very hard to get, all reserved with towels on them by 8.30AM. We would use the path lights to hang our beach bag and rings on while in the pool, with 2 small children we weren't really going to get the chance to sunbathe anyway! The beach isn't that great if you want sand go into Tingaki there is a lovely sandy beach there which we went to on the day we hired a car. Unfortunately as the resort is mostly German all the entertainment and kids club were in German so our children were not able to go. The staff in the main restaurant and pool bar were very serious, but we did overhear the manager asking them to smile more as he had heard complaints about them ( as had we before going) The kids loved the free icecream, although depending on who was serving you it could be a small dollop in a cone or two big scoops. Our maid was wonderful on the 2nd day she came to clean our room after lunch, we warned her our little girl was having her nap, she cleaned very quietly and didn't wake our daughter. The next day the same thing, then on the 4th day she started to do our room first at 9 AM which was much more convenient for us, and our daughter. The rooms were swept, mopped, bathroom cleaned and beds made-up every day, sheets and towels changed every 3 days. One thing we didn't like was being so far from anywhere, we couldn't just walk to a shop or restaurant. The on-site shop does seem to sell a good variety of things but some can be very expensive compared to elsewhere on the island. We caught the bus into Kos Town which isn't far away, went to the bus stop at the end of the track. We waited along with lots of other guests and when the bus arrived everyone surged forwards and pushed and shoved to get on, no such thing as queing. My husband and I looked at each other and stayed where we were, we waited for the next bus. The flight home was much better than the outward journey, the cabin crew were happy, helpful and professional. Overall the holiday was excellent, the weather was hot, the accomodation was of a high standard and the pools were great fun. We felt as though our money had been well spent, the children really enjoyed it all and we had a great family holiday.
Disaster/Nightmare -call it what you will
OK The Kos Aqua Club may be great value for money with free bar and good food. Last week however my family and perhaps 150 other Brits arrived for a holiday to be told there was no room available and we had been downgraded to an array of outdated tatty hotels on the other side of the island. This was of espescial distress to us as we had booked a family holiday with my sister who was given accomodation at the Aqua Cub -60 km round trip away. Anyone travelling with med hotels beware. The first notification we had of our downgraded experience came from the taxi driver booked to transfer us from the airport to Aqua club. Many other families recieved phone calls or emails the day before travel offering accomodation refund but the loss of flight money due to late cancellation. That is blackmail in my books. It strikes me there was a deliberate conspiracy - call it fraud or organised crime to sell British holiday makers holidays that did not exist and move them into hotels that would not by choice be booked. Hence if you are travelling to the aqua club - be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.
I arrived back in the early hours of this morning. One week and could not be happier to be back. If you have booked this hotel, double, triple check your booking with your travel agent. Any one who is British and has been booked via Medhotels through your travel agent will be unlikely to be staying here. Hundreds of British found out that we were down graded, having stepped off the plane in Kos. The hotel is of a much poorer standard. The only plus being we were all in the same boat. Club aqua was 80% German - all the entertainment was in German. Very few British managed to get into the hotel to stay, those that did were disappointed. Watch out for the ear infections from the pool, lots of problems. Good luck if you are going, I will never go to Greece again in my life, along with many many other British people I met over there.
Such a Waste
On the whole we had a lovely holiday and met some really nice people but if your English and not as lucky as us your going to be very disappointed. As already mentioned the Entertainment is completely German orientated and I can honestly say we only had a couple of nights that actually could be classed as Entertainment and these were outside acts! Sometimes the Alltours animation team tried to involved the 'English Speaking' (as they put it) but other times they just didn't bother. One night there was no Entertainment at all and on two other occasions music was just played. We usually made our way up to the Bar near reception with a lot of other English families. Andreas and Giorgios usually entertained us behind the bar there - maybe they should have joined the animation team!!! The pools are fantastic and the kids will not be disappointed although if you want a sunbed you'll have to play the game!! Some even putting towels down before they went to bed! The Pool bar is okay too with snacks on offer which were quite tasty actually. The only thing that annoyed me at this bar was the staff obviously had different tasks i.e one to serve ice-cream, another for drinks and another for food but if one of them wasn't doing anything they wouldn't go and help another that was busy! Very strange and totally lacking in team work. The restaurant is far too busy and although the food is okay you just couldn't enjoy it because of the constant fight - many people having to queue just to enter the restaurant! The hotel itself is spotless as are the rooms - we had a 2 bedroom apartment with a whirlpool bath and fridge freezer, not forgetting a lovely view from our balcony. This hotel is not mainly German there were at least 5 nationalities but unfortunately they only catered for Germans which for them must have really made their holiday something else, for the rest of us we just entertained ourselves. I must admit though for the first couple of shows you'll find the German attempt at humour quite amusing but that does wear off! We went on the Island Hopping trip/Greek Evening and Water Park! Also because we booked with http://www.theokritostravel.gr/ we got the Paradise Beach trip free! Whatever you do don't book your trips with the Hotel or your Rep what a complete rip off. I emailed Louise at Theokrios Travel before we came away and she dropped off their booklet at the hotel for me - what first class service at a much better price! If you've already booked KABC don't panic just enjoy yourself, the kids did sit through some of the shows we thought were awful so at least they were more entertained than the adults! Just make the most of your time away you will certainly not be disappointed with the weather we had 14 days of glorious sunshine.
BEWARE - TAKE NOTE
PLEASE be aware if you have booked into this hotel, especially if you have booked via MED HOTELS The hotel has been massively overbooked this summer !! We flew out Thursday 26th July expecting to stay at this hotel, upon ARRIVAL we were told there is not a room for us at the hotel and we had been moved. The rep informed us that their allocation had been completely wipped out at this hotel and given to.......The Germans ! Eventually we were moved to the Kalimera Mare hotel in Kardamena and told it was of the same standard, IT IS NOT ! Do not agree to go there. We were so disgusted (thats another review in its self) that we flew home on 28th July being the first available flight back. PLEASE check before flying out and confirm your booking to avoid disappointment. We were offered virtually no assistance once out there and the rest of KOS is fully booked.
Please read this before you book not good
Stayed here jun 23rd 2007 for a week . Could not complain about the weather it was lovely and the rooms were lovely very nice always kept clean . However : 1. Pools were very dirty 2.Power cuts all through the week ,some times even no water mainly in the mornings. 3, Food not very nice always served cold 4.The juice you could help yourself to was filled up with there own water instead of bottled water. 5.Hotel is for Germans .No entertainment for English people at all and they are not catered for one bit found this very wrong and left nothing to do in the evenings. 6. very disapointed with the hotel it is a lovely complex and if run correctly it would be beautiful .The staff are friendly and helpful shame about the way it is being run .
First Choice have lost out
Just arrived back from Kos aqua beach club on July 4th 07 and I think First Choice lost out on this hotel. It would have been an excellent First Choice but as it is now various companies, we found that it was very German orientated. The entertainment was in German so it could get boring in the evenings as there was not a lot within walking distance. The complex itself was very clean and the rooms very spacious (we had a 2 bedroomed appartment) The british were, I felt, made to feel inferior because it is mainly a german complex. The food, although plentiful, was mainly the same every day. Some of the bar staff were very stern faced and didn't seem to want to serve you except for Georgias who was very friendly and pleasant and would crack a joke with you. We were told by one of the bar staff that it was 2 drinks per order but then saw him serving a German guest 3 or 4. Nothing for the kids to do as the kids club is run by....(you've guessed it... Germans!!!) Not that my kids wanted the kids club being 15 and 11 thank goodness. Was told by the rep that the walk into Tigaki along the beach was 40 mins. Add another 20 mins onto that and it might be nearer the mark. Also we were told by the rep that the taxi fare would be 5-6 euros one way. We caught a taxi back and it was 10 euros. The safe costs 2.5 euros a day, which we were asked to pay the day before we left. We were also reminded on the morning we were leaving that we still had a TV remote to return and an Air Conditioning Unit and to be out the room by 11.30-12.00 which we already knew and were well packed in advance. You can book a courtesy room if you have a later flight for 30 mins to get showered and changed. They were on the phone as soon as the 30 mins were up. I ignored it as we had finished anyway and were just leaving and was sick of them mithering me. The wave pool wasn't going on as much in the last week and we think it was because the water and electric kept failing so we don't think it could cope with the power of everything together. Especially when we realised they had to turn the water off in the other pool (slides, showers, fountains etc) before turning the wave pool on. I could go on but don't want to bore you If you need to know anything else, don't hesitate to ask me Didn't let it spoil my holiday as the weather was glorious and we met some great people (all English & Scottish!) but have to say, I wouldn't go back
