My hubby and I booked a last minute holiday to Turkey on the 16th July and flew out on the 17th July flight was delayed 3 hours so did'nt get to turkey until 7.30am got on the coach and the rep gave us the envelope with info about our hotel etc I noticed we were going to the Ugur hotel and not the Dost hotel that we booked I said there was a mistake but he could'nt speak very good english and insisted we were to go to the Ugur hotel as the Dost hotel was full.
I was livid as I had read the awful reports about the Ugur hotel on the internet we were told the main rep would speak to us at 10am and sort it out we went to the Ugur hotel and the first room they showed me I refused to go into as it was dark and smelled damp they showed us another room which was a little better but had no balcony so we put our suitcases in the room and went down to the pool area to wait for the rep. When he came he explained the Dost hotel was full but that the Ugur was the alternative but I was not happy about the room so he spoke to Bruno (owners son)who showed us a bigger brighter room with balcony and we agreed to try it for 1 night boy am I glad we did.
The hotel turned out far better than expected ok it was quite basic but extremely clean our bedding was changed every 3rd day and we had clean white towels every day the cleaning lady was a great wee worker despite not speaking english she kept the place nice and clean on her own (hotel has 40 rooms)and always had a smile the other staff Bruno & Fitz kept the pool area and the restaurant clean at all times and Mustafha (owners brother) looked after the bar at first it was not stocked up but by the 2nd day he restocked the bar and asked if there was anything we would like that he did'nt already stock he would get it in for us.
I went to Turkey for a relaxing week to chill out by the pool and relax and that is what I got staying at the Ugur hotel it is billed as a two star but despite that it is very clean and basic if you want 4/5 star then don't go there
I would go back to the Ugur again and in particular Gumbet you can have a fast pace with the nightlife down on bar street or a relaxing chilled out holiday there is plenty of bars & restaurants it is still reasonably cheap to eat out and it has a great beach and there is a good market in Bodrum just a short distance away on the dolmus which stops right outside the hotel.
Lastly I would like to mention Jill (Mustapha's wife) she has been married for 23years and lived in Turkey we were introduced to her by her hubby one night and by the end of our holiday came away as friends she is a lovely lady and gave us some good tips and ideas to enjoy our holiday.
PS the manager last year was the hotel owners son and he was sacked and sent back to Germany (where the family have lived for 30 years) and one of her other sons Heroud has just taken over and is now trying to turn the hotel round so if your looking for a basic clean and cheap holiday I would recommend the Ugur Hotel

My husband and I have just returned from a week in Gumbet and we stayed at the UGUR HOTEL. We loved it! Yes, it was very basic and I was very worried about staying there as I read so many dreadful reviews. Although I can assure you that the hotel is basic it's also very clean and a sweet little place to stay. As a heavily pregnant woman- I had no problems whatsoever. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel has had some very bad reviews in the past, but it has now been updated and placed under a new manager.
Fret the hotel assistant runs everything and goes out of his way to help you despite his limited English. The owner who is a middle aged lady, who keeps behind the scenes and stays in the kitchen area, is a lovely lady. She usually goes around the pool area and offers guests the most delicious grapes from the hotel's garden.
Breakfast is traditional Turkish style so don't expect toast and any English stuff. They also make beautiful coffee which is not worth missing. If you make an effort with the workers, they'll really warm to you. I was offered endless cups of black tea by the kitchen ladies who were very friendly and welcoming. I can even say the same about the owner.
One day I even forgot my wedding rings under my pillow and went to the beach. When I returned I found them on the drawer next to the bed. I thanked and tipped the cleaner who works extremely hard all day long.
During our stay there were young, old couples, single parents with children and even girls on their own all staying at the hotel. The pool area is small but great to meet people because it's such a tiny hotel that's super friendly.
To anyone planning to stay at the UGUR hotel, don't expect much and if you are too fussy and would like to spend most of your time in a luxurious hotel then don't bother going there. But if you are looking for a simple base, a friendly welcoming stay, helpful staff to look after you and a shower that works then go for Ugur. It's really value for money, with fantastic location and friendly staff.
To the young attractive girls travelling alone- watch out for the Manager, a bit sleazy and you need to handle him with a pinch of salt. Stick to Fret and the lovely kitchen ladies.
Otherwise enjoy your stay. We met some lovely people on holiday there and I already miss the lovely Turkish Hotel staff.

I had a fabulous holiday at the Ugur Hotel as did most of the people I spoke to whilst I was there. The people that didnt enjoy there stay expected a five star hotel at 1 star prices!!!!! The place was clean & there were always people around the pool cleaning. On our first day we were in a room with no balcony so we asked if we could change rooms. The manager moved us straight away & helped us with our bags. A big thank you to Mustafa & vanessa for making our stay so pleasant! I will definately be going back next year.

Well where do we start, we arrived at this hotel, with a 1 year old baby, in the early hours of the morning and were shown to a room with 3 single beds, by a person that did not speak any english and when asking where the cot was, he sort of said there wasn't any and put pillows on the single bed for the baby to stop him falling off, i dont think so! So he had to sleep with me to make sure he didnt fall out. Tried to get some sleep after our long journey and were woken some three hours later by shouting and arguing by the staff at the hotel in reception, we decided to get up to go out and on leaving the hotel, we saw the manager getting led away by the police. Later that day we returned to see the same manager battered and bruised, limping round the hotel which rather scared us. The bar was a shambles, didnt sell anything but beer and water, all spirit bottles empty and it was a real effort to get anything at the hotel, and they didnt speak a word of english, which is fair enough but they mainly dealt with english tourists. The next day same thing happened with police and all the shouting and arguing, which was pretty unnerving, especially with a baby. We got no help, with our cases, with buggy up and down the stairs, they just sat there watching at the reception desk. On our second day we decided to gt the air conditioning, we were left waiting in reception for half an hour, when we had been seen already, then someone finally came who understood what air conditioning was the day we came and then just ignored us when we asked again, and said 'no english'!!!!!! Again at tea time we heard arguing and shouting aith the manager and his wife, this time and it sounded like they were phyisically fighting. There were cigarette butts outside the door by our room, our room was only cleaned twice in our weeks visit with the towels being changed only once. On our last day they turned the air conditioning off at 8.30am when we weren't due to check out til 12pm and we had to struggle with the cases, the baby and tha buggy doen the stairs while they watched, again and also also up to the coach when we got picked up. Wise advice, do not visit this hotel, we didnt expect much, but a cot and a pleasant stay would have been nice.

warning!
just come home from gumbet in the ugur hotel and i can only warn you of the dangers taking a holiday in this resort. just me and a friend stayed at the resort and really was the hotel from hell. from the start of the holiday to the end of the holiday was a terrifying ordeal for us two girls. staff never left us alone the turkish staff that lived in the resort. on returning from a night out in gumbet staff would knock on our door being very rude and talking foul, trying to touch us and drag us out of the room to go to there room. on one occasion we went to make a phone call to our families where we were followed up the road in a car by a member of staff from the ugur hotel so we rushed back to inform the manager (2nd in charge) of the hotel who did go and have a word with the individual involved, but the next night he him self tried it with both of us outside our hotel room. saying quiet, quiet kiss kiss. it is a very scary place for girls going on there own so can only warn of those trying to book for this hotel. be warned of the manager Ali, he is a continually drunk and pumped with drugs, markings on his arms showed that and being a nurse i no. i really can not express what a terrifying place the ugur was for us to girls. goldtrail were informed as we rung the rep, but very little was done. the manager tried to throw us out after we made the allegations but goldtrail explained to ali he has no power to do that summing to do with the law! or so the rep told us.

First time in turkey,my boyfriend and i in our 30's went to this hotel expecting a rundown shack. but found it wasnt that bad but not great either, it is very basic so if you are expecting luxury and brilliant service forget it ! its kinda self service, although they do try to help.its Fawlty Towers all over, the manager doesnt talk much and women need to be wary of him although we didnt have any problems, if you dont mind just taking things as they come then it will be fine. they have a very friendly english speaking waitress Vanessa serving breakfasts and drinks during the day and the barman Mustafa comes in about 3pm and starts the music is a bit crazy but fun and very welcoming and we enjoyed his company. it was nice to come back to the hotel and see the tacky bar lights flashing, music playing and mustafa talking with guests. in a weird kind of way was fun. although if you dont like noise and people talking and music playing till early hours you wont be best pleased as the barman stays open until people leave, which at times is 3/4 am we liked that but some might not although saying that it depends on the crowd of people that are there on that week, breakfast is turkish breakfast which consists of bread butter /jam olives cheese tomatoes, cucumber boiled egg and sometimes melon and a cup of tea.there are plenty of cafes and restaurants just outside the hotel. the variety of food outside is excellent and the turkish restaurants have the tastiest food if your brave enough to try it, we preferred it to tourist places as there prices are much more cheaper too, the nightlife is great and there plenty of bars and clubs, most places also stay open 24 hrs, most of the restaurants were very child friendly, the beach is a ten minute walk and is lovely, cant say the hotel is everyones cup of tea but we loved it we met some lovely people and i guess that makes a difference overall our holiday was great and will probably go back again.

The hotel is now called The Ladybird, I returned from there yesterday July 20th. The Rooms are the most basic I have ever stayed in BUT they are clean. Only few problems/gripes. No plug in sink, tv mounted on wall so had to stand on bed to reach it and the airel was dangling so unable to use tv, charged £25 for air con with deposit of £39. As it was only 2 star you cant expect too much, after all you only used room to sleep in. The staff Gill and her husband who called himself John(think real name Mustafa)were very helpful and polite, did what ever they could to make you feel welcome. There was issues with 2 other male staff who then got sacked and Gill then took over the kitchen as well as all her other roles. We did not eat there so I cannot comment on the quality of the food, breakfast is salad and boiled egg. The hotel pool was lovely and clean, although more sun loungers would have been nice. It was the perfect base to use as it was 5 minutes to Bar Street from there. A great base for exploring Gumbet, if you are looking for more luxury dont stay there it is basic. Booked through GOLDTRAIL! But Gill was helpful in getting us home, Phew!
