We Arrived at the Marcan Hotel after a long journey with our 19 month old baby. After arriving at the hotel we was told by the reception staff that one of our rooms who was booked though Medlife Hotels and gone in liquidation and we had to pay for the room again, very disappointed as we were not informed by either party that the company had gone bust.
The hotel was very basic...maybe a 3* 20 years ago, but now a very dated 2* Rooms were clean and basic but very small especially with a cot in there, the beds where like sleeping on piles of bricks...very hard and the pillows were like paper.
That aside i can say the hotel staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived and they where fantastic with our little boy (they even took him for walks around the pool in his pram) giving us chance to sit down for 5 mins!
If you do decide to stay at this hotel or the sister hotel next door (Telmessos) i would not recommend Half board. The food in this hotel is awful by far the worst i have ever eaten, breakfast consists of cheese, olives and warm fruit covered in wasps, and the evening meal (3 course) is again revolting.
They also give you a card to purchase drinks etc from the bar and then settle your bill at the end of your holiday. Drinks were very expensive.
The hotel itself was situated up a steep hill about 5 minutes walk from the main street of Hisaronu where you'll find all the bars, restaurants and shops. We did eat out from the hotel a couple of times but again the food on offer in the restaurants wasn't very nice at all.
Hisaronu is a lovely place with friendly locals and plenty of trips and excursions on offer.
I would not go back to this hotel again even if it was offered to me for free.

I really dis-liked this hotel. Luckily I did not have to spend any time there. Out at 8am and back for a shower then out till late. Not for families or people that like to remain in their hotel all holiday as it is awful. Staff, food and service all bad value. DO NOT BOOK. Only good thing is the large pool. Area great, loads to do in resort, would def go back to area, please book a different hotel.

I cannot even start to explain how disappointed I am in this hotel!
Our 4th time in hisaronu, the first time we went there we stayed at the Marcan but were not able to get in there the following 2 years (assumed due to popularity). So we were delighted when we managed to book it this year for not only us but 15 guests as we were getting married in nearby Fethiye. I can only assume that this hotel has changed hands this year, or that the management have just become so greedy that they dont actually care if their guests are happy or enjoying their stay.
We were so disappointed and embarrassed that we recommended this (and sister hotel telmessos) to our family and close friends. There were 2 reception staff, one by day and one by night, who were certainly the rudest people I have ever met.
We had a disagreement with the night receptionist over taking water into our room (because we had to leave at 6am the following day and wouldnt be able to buy a drink beforehand which we explained to him, he didnt care !) and he refused to speak to us again for the rest of the holiday.
I am not usually argumentative but also argued with the day chap as I had booked a hairdresser trial for the wedding and he would not let her into the hotel. So we argued and he would then only speak to my now husband for the rest of the holiday. So very unprofessional.
A friend of mine complained to reception about the customer services and was told " If you dont like it then leave" and " You not police, I no talk to you"
That just about sums them up really. They didnt care about the number of people we had staying there or that it was for a wedding, and while i dont expect anything for nothing, wedding or not, I would have expected a little courtesy and professionalism.
We werent the only disgruntled party there, so many people we spoke to were complaining about the greediness of the hotel with their extra charges for everything and not allowing any food or drink into the hotel even if they dont sell it themselves.
Aside from this, breakfast is the same everyday - a wasp infested Turkish buffet and cold coffee, the prices in the hotel are double what you would pay on the high street (a 2 minute walk away) and you cant take any food or drink into the hotel for fear of having your bag searched
The only positive comments I can say is that the rooms are basic but spacious and very clean. the bar staff and cleaners are friendly and the hotel photographer is an absolute gem.
All that said, I love this resort and plan to go there again and again. The people, the sites, the trips and the weather are all wonderful, I just wont stay in this hotel again.

I really enjoyed my week's stay at Hotel Marcan. The hotel room was very basic but ideal for what we wanted if for - a bed to sleep in at night and a clean base to get showered and dressed. For what we paid we didn't expect anything else.
The pool was a nice size and there is plenty of room/sunbeds around it. It is kept clean and tidy throughout the day and cleaned at night.
The hotel bar was good for afternoon snacks and drinks for which you use a swipe card to pay for and settle at reception when you want to. Although we didn't expect much of a breakfast it was a bit less than expected - very very basic - crusty bread, cheese, cucumber, ham, cereal and 2x fruit juices. Wasps were a bit of a problem but i understand they are rife in Turkey any way.
The hotel is in a great location and surrounded by picturesque mountains. Just a small walk down a hill and you are in the town centre with a wide choice of restaurants and bars. Also a bus stop which runs every 5 mins - very cheap to Olu Deniz (5/10 mins away) and Fethiye.
Overall we found everyone including the hotel staff to be very helpful and friendly. The photographer Fred was lovely and took some great photos by the pool at night - very professional!
I would definitley recommend this hotel as a cheap get away and you are guaranteed sun and good temperatures in Turkey.
I look forward to returning to Hotel Marcan in the future.

My husband and I stayed at the Marcan hotel in Hisaronu with a group of 13 others also staying at the Marcan and it's sister hotel, the Telmessos.
First, the good points:
These hotels are in an excellent location. They are up a slight hill from the main street in Hisaronu so although you are a mere 2 mins walk away, the resort is a little quieter.
The hotel rooms and facilities were kept very clean.
A great bar in Hisaronu is the Lycian - very entertaining with drinks at reasonable prices.
The Gold Finger salon in Hisaronu is fantastic. My friend took her wedding party (myself included) there for hair, manicures, pedicures etc and the staff were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble. Right down to organising flowers and champagne for the bride.
Now the bad points:
My friends had decided to get married in Turkey and as they had stayed at the Marcan/Telmessos before, they recommended it to us, and the entire wedding party stayed at these hotels. Despite their loyal custom and bringing friends and relatives who were spending a lot of money in these hotels the staff did all they could to ruin their reputation and almost my friend's wedding!
There is a big sign when you arrive at the hotel entrances advising guests that they are not allowed to bring any food or drink into the hotel. Staff act as sentries on the door to inspect your bags and they will confiscate anything they like. If you complain you are simply told to leave.
Apart from a few individuals, staff are generally unfriendly and will repeatedly try to coax you into attending hotel events, such as the Turkish night we attended. Prices are quoted in sterling, but when you pay in Turkish Lira they charge you well over the exchange rate (which is advertised in the hotel lobby). The Turkish night itself did have a very good belly dancer (an English lady) but the food was dissapointing. Several of our party informed staff that we had 2 vegetarians, and 2 children in our party when we booked, but their meals were not forthcoming. When we questioned this we were greeted with a fairly hostile attitude and staff insinuating that we were lying.
The hotels bars play loud music well into the night keeping the guests awake.
Animals appear to be treated badly there. One night my husband and I heard repeated barking from a dog which we could not find due to the dark. The dog barked all night long, sounding very distressed, and when we found him in the daylight he was chained up to the solar panels at the back of the hotel. When we asked reception who the dog belonged to, we were told nobody at the hotel owned a dog, yet he disappeared, only to return the following day being walked by two members of staff. There was also a very skinny (underfed-looking) dog who stayed by the bar at the Telmessos.
Back to the wedding: The hotel would not allow the bride's hairdresser into the hotel, as she was not a hotel employee. Despite the bride's continued loyalty to the hotel and pleading with the managers, they would not relent, instead choosing to shout at her. Luckily we had time to go to the wonderful Gold Finger instead.
If you question a bill, or have any issue which you speak to the managers about they will not help you. They simply refuse to show any level of customer service to their paying guests. During our one week stay we witnessed several unhappy people complaining and saying they would never go back. I myself was very rudely addressed by one of the managers who when I tried to ask him some questions was told, 'You are not police, you cannot ask me questions, I not talk to you.'
When people in our party were overheard talking in Hisaronu about our bad experiences with these hotels, we were advised that the whole town knows of the bad practices which go on there. Staff are apparently paid a pitence, and not until the end of the season, if they don't get fired first.
Many of our party have decided to return to Hisaronu next year as it's a really lovely place. The people are very friendly, there is an interesting market with many colourful characters on a Monday, and it's close to Fethiye and Oludiniz with it's lovely beaches and the famous Blue Lagoon. However, we will NOT be returning to the Marcan and Telmessos. There are plenty of other places in Hisaronu where they know the value of customer service. This is a real shame for two hotels who had a good reputation and previously loyal customers, but have obviously let things slip.

Just returned from a weeks holiday........After having delayed flights we finally arrived very tired at our hotel at 7.30am to be told (very unhelpfully) that our booked room was not big enough for our party (2adults & 2 children)..and that we would have to pay extra money to get a family room.
I pointed out the occupancy was for 2 & 2 on the booking confirmation countless times but it fell on deaf ears, I just got told it wasn't their problem it was our's and we would have to pay for an extra room... They did however offer to ring our travel company in Turkey (which I will add on checking out they charged us an extortionate £11 for !)
This proved to be no help what so ever as they just told us to pay and try to claim when we got home.
So we decided unless we wanted a completely ruined holiday the best thing to do was give in and pay up and make the best of a bad deal..
We then got told, well actually we have no rooms for you at the moment you'll have to have 2 seperate rooms on different floors..
Not good enough as children are too small to be in own room..
Then suddenly we could have a family room... well we got taken to the room and the manager said to leave our stuff and the maid would clean..
We went back after a while to find there was still pubic hair on the toilet seat and thick grime all over the cupboards...hair embedded in sink plughole etc etc..
It was definately not a guests room, it had none of the facilites advertised and was sooo antiquated and dirty it was untrue, my garage was cleaner.....
So the cleaner came for a 2nd visit.. we went to the pool ... came back for a sleep 3 hours later ... still pubic hairs on loo and also to add to my misery mouldy damp smelly pillows and bedding....
Thats when sleep deprivation hit and I went slightly gagga at lady in reception....
However she really didn't see my point when i hysterically pointed the slimey hairs out to her she couldn't see why the hairs were a problem , she asking me what my problem was!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally we got put in 2 twin rooms next door to each other........not ideal but by this stage a shed would have proved a cleaner option...
Anyway finally we relaxed and actually had a fab holiday, the town itself is lovely with lovely restuarants and such friendly people..
Jeep safari is a must and was such fun......
Turkey is a wonderful country and we would definately go back just not to that hotel... Although most of the other staff were great and the pool was lovely....All the management seemed interested in was our money..they even charged 2 lots of air con as we had 2 rooms!! Even though we only wanted the 1!!!!!!

Not a 3 star very basic, do not book half board money better spent in resort resturants which are abundant. The staff are friendly enough, the pool ok.Hotel prices a bit steep and no food or drink allowed in the hotel not even water unless brought from hotel, I would view this hotel as a convenient place to stop if you want a central location where every thing is nearby. The locals were friendly the day trips good value for the money, boat trip with nice lunch £6.The Hisaronu resort is mainly british and just as good as Oludeniz which is just 4km away £2.50p bus fair, the beach front is worth a visit at night which is buzzing with all the shops & bars spilling out onto the beach. To recap, good resort, frienly people, good value for money.Marcan needs updating if it is to remain a favorite for repeat custom, which because of its location would be a shame if it did not,i will be going back to Hisaronu but not the Marcan!.

Just returned from a fortnight half board stay at this hotel. It is our 4th holiday to Turkey and 3rd visit to this resort, it was the first and LAST at this hotel.
On arrival at 7.30am following a long overnight flight, we were met by a grumpy night duty manager who was only expecting my self & my wife & not my 13 year old daughter. He quickly shuffled the rooms around and allocated us somebody else’s room.
£70 later after paying for the aircon & safe we were taken to our room (in C Block) by a member of staff who was expecting a tip. The rooms are basic & clean but small, even smaller if like us there were 3 sharing a room as they squeeze in an extra single bed. We were lucky we didn’t have a room overlooking the pool & bar area as we were quickly made aware that there was no chance of getting any sleep until the early hours as the bar was kept open playing loud & repetitive music until the last person left for bed.
The hotel operates a swipe card payment system where all your food and drinks bought are put on the swipe card and the idea is to settle up at the end of the holiday. It seems good in theory but you can quickly build up a large bill if you’re not careful. My advice is to keep all of your receipts and settle up every couple of days to keep track of your spends.
Added to this the hotel had numerous sign's up enforcing strict rules that no food or drink was to be brought into the hotel from outside or it will be taken off you until you go home & believe me the duty manager on reception would try to check your bag if he suspected you were bringing items in!
No real point in hiring a fridge for £20 as you could only fill it with goods bought from the bar. The bar prices are up to 2 or 3 times the price of goods in the town.
We were unfortunate to have gone half board as the food was very basic and repetitive. Breakfast was as you would expect from basic continental (wasps included) with no variety. Evening meal consisted of 15 mezes (same every night for 14 nights, again including wasps) and 2 main dishes. The 2 main dishes were different each night for a week & then repeated the following week, no good for veggies or if you were hungry. We ended up eating out many nights, again more £££’s.
We spent most days at the poolside with a good size pool. The area is very well maintained, clean and with plenty of room for sun beds, however the sun bed cushions were full of stains and seriously need replacing. The pool boy was excellent and always on hand armed with his squeegee, pushing the water away from the pool and under the beds, so be warned not to leave anything under your bed as it will get soaked!
As we got into our holiday it became clear that the hotel were out to get as much £££’s out of us brits as they possibly could. Extra charges are abundant at this hotel with charges for an hour of pool, hour of internet use (with only one pc available) along with the safe, aircon, fridge and TV hire. One of the many songs that were played continuously was ‘All About The Money’ by Meja and this became the theme song for our holiday.
If like us, you are on a night flight and are being picked up for your return journey at 2am – you are to vacate your room by midday, hand in your safe key and swipe card then expected to sit around the uncomfortable, hot & sticky lobby for 14 hours with no aircon or secure area for you luggage and belongings. If they haven’t overbooked the hotel (which is very common) you can keep your room on until 6pm at a charge of £15.00 - which was £10.00 when we arrived or for an extra night a charge of £20.00 - £15 when we arrived. Again they the management saw an opportunity and increased the prices during our stay.
What more can I say about this hotel? The cleaners do a fantastic job and keep the hotel spotless, with a constant change of bedding and towels in the rooms. The bar staff are wonderful and friendly and you can tell that they are under constant pressure from the management. The resident photographer Fred is a great guy and takes awesome family photos.
It’s just a shame that the management seriously let this hotel down. There was a lack of atmosphere and fun as they were just out for our money.
We met some wonderful people and families, without them we wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much. We will definitely be back to Hisaronu as it is a fantastic place, in a wonderful setting. No complaints about the place or people, just this shambolic hotel.

We actually booked for the Telmessos, but knew beforehand we may be put in the Marcan if it's sister hotel was fully booked. But after reading the favourable reviews on this site we were confident that we wouldn't be disappointed. What can I tell you about this hotel? It's very clean. The bar staff are wonderful. The resident photographer is fabulous. That's about as positive as it gets...and believe me I tried to find nice things to say. The front counter staff have obviously taken a course from the Basil Fawlty school of hotel management. I suspect it is not of their own choice. I blame the management. The main reception is hot and stuffy and could do with some air conditioning. This would be especially helpful for your last day, because, if like us, you are being picked up for your return journey at midnight - you still have to vacate your room by midday, and this is where you will have to sit for twelve hours. Unless they can find a spare room for you (no guarantee) to store your suitcases - at a charge of £20.00 - which was £15.00 when we arrived - but the price was increased during our stay. Extra charges are abundant at this hotel. Extra charge for air con (essential when the temprature is in the plus forties), extra charge to use a safe - which is in the main reception hall in full view of everyone and not in the hotel room where it should logically be placed. Extra charge to play a game of pool (in spite of the fact that the manager is too mean to invest in chalk for the cues) - and if you go over an hour you will be stopped from playing whether you have one ball left on the table or 15.
Also - you are not allowed to bring food or drink into the hotel from outside. Even a bottle of water! We actually witnessed someone have their illicit bottle of Adams ale confiscated from them by the charming chaps at reception. You have to buy your water from the bar which is up to 75% more expensive than in Hisaronu. You can of course store this in your fridge - if you've paid extra for one. Breakfast is repetitive. It is also served outside. By the time you get down in the morning your breakfast food will be swarming with wasps. You can have cooked breakfast if you want - but, of course, it's extra. The food from the resident chef is edible. However - beware if you are pespetarian - like my wife is. She ordered a seafood pasta dish and confirmed there was no meat in it. When it was served up it contained salami. We pointed this out to the waiter who insisted "Is not meat - is salami!" We explained the difference to him between meat and vegetables and he took the meal back to the chef who then began picking the pieces of salami out of the dish in order to return it to us sans pig meat!
The hotel advertises Sky Plus, BBC and ITV for the television (note - singular). They don't have it. One of the staff told us (although it may have been tongue in cheek) the reason for this is they hadn't paid the bill.
To be honest - if it wasn't for the lovely people we met and the friends we made at this hotel we would have been thoroughly miserable. This third rate hotel struggles to reach the dizzy heights of it's meagre three stars. We know people have come back here year after year - but we spoke to some of them - and they told us it would be there last visit. It will definitely be ours! Avoid!!!

This Hotel was surprising. Whilst you walk to your room and the scenery is beautiful as was the room downside being there is no fridge, TV or air conditioning (the later you had to pay for could not understand paying for this basic necessity) Well the breakfast menu could have done with changing after 7 days it gets boring. Although we had booked for 14 nights an emergency back home meant we left after 7 nights and the reception staff were not exactly sympathetic to the energency BUT the tour rep from Thomas Cook was an angel. She assisted in getting a flight home the next day. I would have preferred breakfast not so predictable and maybe more warmth from some of the reception staff. Whilst I enjoy travelling to Hisaronu maybe next time I will book elsewhere.

What can i say? I can honestly say we have never had such a fab holiday, the staff are great (friends for life)
We were a party of 6, and had the best holiday you could ask for, fab hotel, resort and the best staff you could wish for, none of us wanted to leave and we will be going back as soon as possible.
Hisaronu is a great resort with plenty to do both day and night for all ages, we had two girls aged 16 and 19 and they were happy to go out alone.
Recomend a boat trip, got picked up at 10am and back at 6.30-great day with lunch included all for £8 each!!

Great overall hotel, went with my partner for a week away, the staff there are so friendly and welcoming and we've made friends for life and still have regular contact with some of them. The rooms are very basic and rather dated but you dont want to be spending much time in your room anyway no tellys or radios - we spent most of our days on the poolside sunbeds which are always available!! Your room will be cleaned at your request everyday if you want - you just leave your room key at reception before 12 the maids are lovely they make the rooms feel as welcoming as possible and always insure you have all that you need! There isnt any nightly entertainment but trust me the bar staff will make sure to entertain you - it is a great atmosphere during the day and the night the bar wont close untill the last person leaves (this may bug some people as music will be blasting till all hours in the morning) The staff are always so lively and will be dancing on the bar great fun, they did have one turkish night which is at an extra cost not much though and is worth seeing. The food is great we went halfboard the breakfast was basic but they would cook fresh omlettes for you if requested which are lovely, dinner is a meun set dinner which has quite a good selection and the food taste great!! Make sure if you are halfboard that you only order from the halfboard menu as they do have seperate meuns, The veg pizza is highly recommended!!
Overall I would go again only downfall was the basic rooms with no telly, but thats only because I missed watching eastenders haha! The beach is lovely to but you do have to catch the bus to get there, the bus stops are at the bottom of the hill as the hotel is situated on top of a mountain!! Great place to visit and would defo go again!!
