what you pay for is what you get. not 4star more 3 or 2 depending on your room.food is ok.,always something to eat.20 min walk up hill to gondola. too far to walk with skis and boots so do recommend to rent a locker or the cage. there are free buses that run up and down the village. arinsal by night is not worth the money.you basically pay 24 Euro and get a hotdog and hot chocolate.you dont get asked for your ticket until you get the snacks. so you might as well stay up the mountain on the lift pass you have already paid for, sledge and watch the ski instructors display for free and dont get the snacks. to go on the skidoos you might get told by your rep you have to ski there and back to go on them.you can get a cheap taxi to them.El Moli opposite the gondola is a great friendy bar and does a great pizza deal between 3-5 , buy 2 pints and get a free pizza.Cisco's next door does amazing food! worth a try.ski instructors kevin and marcus are great and if you need lessons ask for them!i was very nervous skiing as it was my first time and they were great! when you ski there will be a few camera men around filming and taking pictures. if you would like to purchase pictures from the shop opposite the top of the gondola watch out as they change their deals daily. i brought 2 pictures for 15euro and the next day my friend brought 15 pictures on a disk for 20euro. so haggle with them . overall i had a great holiday and will be defo goin back next year but will prob stay in a hotel closer to the gondola.

Do not stay Here

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
The decor was cheap and felt like the inside of a school.
The food was inebible and we ended up eating out most nights - which added to the cost.
The staff were unfriendly (probably due to the eating the hotel food each day).
if you want to enjoy your holiday - stay somewhere else!

Great family Hotel

Just got back from Andorra and feel that I must comment on the St Gothard. We stayed in a family room which is actually 2 rooms. The 2nd room has its own door from the main room and its own WC. My kids loved the independence and we were happy with the security.
The staff were all very friendly and everything was very clean. The room was cleaned and made up everyday.
The food was more than acceptable. I had 2 vegetarians with me and a fussy 9 year old and everyone was fairly happy with the choices on offer at the Buffet Breakfasts and Dinners.
Location of the Hotel is quite good, being a 10 minute walk from the Gondola, plus the Ski bus stops right outside the Hotel. Hint! You can leave your Skis and boots on the mountain by hiring either a locker @ €44 per week for 4 sets of skis or €10 per week for a single set. What luxury not having to haul your skis up and down the mountain everyday.
I would definitely stay here again.

Having read several reviews on this...

Having read several reviews on this hotel before we went away (and having just read the last one posted here) I think a lot of people are unfairly critical of St Gothard.
Firstly, READ the hotel specs - it isn't at the the bottom of the slopes by the gondala but it never suggests it is. So god forbid that you might have to get on a bus (for 60 seconds) or SHOCK HORROR, walk(!). We chose the latter and we had snow boards with us every day. Yes it wasn't easy but we got up in time, had breakfast and warmed ourselves up for a day on the slopes by making the 10-15min walk uphill. Or, we caught the bus to Arcalis outside the hotel. Only thing is,if you're taking your own kit, watch how you stash it on the buses. People are so eager to get their skis that they pay no attention to other people's belongings and my new board was scraped, chipped and bashed before I'd even got to use it.
With regards to the food, I have to admit that I am not fussy and eat most things and I love to try food abroad. As a general rule people who live in a different country have different eating habits - if you want to go on holiday abroad and eat the food you eat at home, go self catering. Buffet food both for breakfast and evening meal was varied and plentiful and truely only the most fussy would go unfed. If you ate nothing that's because you don't eat salad, potatoes, rice or other staples as these are always on offer. We ate too much every evening and yes there were a few things that weren't to individuals likings but there was enough variation to satisfy us. Microwaves have been provided for those who like everything toasty hot – it’s not easy to keep buffet food warm & they’ve reacted to feedback.
Our rooms were clean, attended to every day, had lovely views over the river and hillside at the back of the hotel and a balcony where we kept our boards/bindings. The staff were always willing to help.
Now what I did think was bad because although the hotel has tried, it does have some pitfalls. I'd only rate rate St Gothard as 4* at a very pinch because the little things that make the difference weren't there.
You have to pay for your drinks with your evening meal (even water) and coffee/tea not supplied which seems a bit unreasonable when you're paying half board. Because of the exchange rate it can make for an expensive unplanned addition to your expenditure. This issue really needs pressing with the hotel because it's unfair, especially on families. There are no kettles in the rooms either so we didn't get as much caffeine as we'd normally choose. Also our group missed out on a free glass of Cava on the Friday meal as we assumed we'd be paying. I am unsure if you're allowed to bring your own but looking back, I wish we'd tried.
The hotel doesn't provide boot drying facilities and no radiators that were on (though the hotel was roasting) which is frustrating so remember to take portable driers or prepare to have your boots smelling in your room.
Our particular room didn't have a shower, just a hand held shower head - I don't know if this was standard.
The bar was quiet, the entertainment was poor and the prices weren't that competitive to the village bars despite the hotel's claims.
I'd be interested to go back in the summer to try the facilities that weren't open to us in the winter but I'd only go if I wasn't paying full whack. It's not perfect but it is trying and I do feel that many of the reviews are a bit unfair. Try it if you dare!

We arrived at the hotel at around four o'clock the hotel had cold sandwhiches waiting for us but the day we left we noticed the sandwhiches there at four in the morning obvioulsy not fresh .
Check in was pretty easy and the rooms where a fair size. But being on the fourth flour was a bit of a pain using one of the two lifts. The bathroom was very clean but we found towels where only given once every two days.
One majour disapointment was the food , i bearly ate all week and that was just soup and a bread roll. It was so bad i found myself looking forward to the meal on the plane.
The hotel had a jacuzzi and sauna facility but at a steap price of 6 euro for half on hour which was the time you got as you where soon told to leave after your half an hour. The entertainment on a night was from a man and women , lets just say not the most entertaining people i have seen. They also seemed very demanding for the drinks at dinner as the waiter wated by your table for the money. Often on a night the main restaurant would be full and we would be sent to the smaller one , not as much choice available.
We also found that the location was poor giving you two options a walk up a huge hill or the hour late bus. I would'nt say my stay was the best but the food was the main problem probably would not recommend.

My son and I (10yrs) went skiing for the first time and stayed at this hotel. The accommodation was clean and warm, I would say however the decor could possibly do with an upgrade just started to look a little dated.( acceptable though) .
The food at the hotel was first class ( always a worry when taking a very fussy child on holiday) they provided a full choice of kids food which changed nightly ,and I have to say a five star buffet for adults at night. The fish dishes would grace any top fish restaurant.
Staff were very child friendly.
Only drawback if any was the fact that you had to wait for bus in the morning to lifts. You could walk however this would be up a very steep hill and carrying kit was not an option.

Hotel was good warm and clean, food was very good and a good choice.
Bar and restaurant staff were very friendly.
A good 10 minute walk to the Gondola but you could easily take the Bus and its all downhill on the way back.
Bar was reasonably priced and cheaper than bars in the resort.
The only criticism is the location of some of the rooms, if you get room 3202 or 3201 don't accept it.
The noise from 10pm till midnight from the nearby games room is horrendous and room 3202 is adjacent to the public toilets.
It will be okay if you can move rooms but the hotel was full and you have to put up with the noise.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit worried about the meals.
I shouldn't have. The St Gothard is fab, the catering was great and catered for a party of 8 aged 7 - 42 with all tastes accounted for.
The rooms are on the small side, but considering the small amount of time spent in them then this was not a problem.
The resort is beautiful and clean.
The only problem was lack of snow, with no snow forecast in the near future then this may become a problem.
We loved this holiday (our first skiing) and will definitely go again.

Having read several worrying reports...

Having read several worrying reports on the web about hotel St Gothard, we felt dubious. The flight was two hours late but since it was half term, it was to be expected. The real shock was to be told on the coach from Gerona airport that the journey would take four and a half hours to Pas de la Cassa.
Arinsal is the other side of Andorra so by the time we reached it, five hours had passed. We arrived at the hotel at 2am, pretty much exhausted. The hotel had left a buffet meal for us – a pleasant surprise.
The breakfast was excellent. It consisted of cereals, bacon & eggs, cold meats, croissants, toast and cheeses, fruit, cakes etc. The service was friendly and helpful.
The snow conditions were excellent. The food in the hotel was hot and good, in spite of previous poor reports on the web site. House wines were 7.5 euros.

St.Gothard was very disappointing for...

St.Gothard was very disappointing for a 4 star hotel. The hotel was very noisy every night until 1100+ because of the design of the hotel. The first floor is open plan and looks out onto the reception/Bar area below.
The maid service was late 2 days and our bed and towels weren’t changed after we had come back from a days skiing.
If your expecting luxury don't, its more like a 2-3 * hotel.

Friendly, warm atmosphere, spotlessly clean but very cramped, as we were 3 in a room. Could not read in the room because lighting inadequate.
The food was of excellent quality and presented well and included tasty local fare. Drinks and wine with dinner reasonably priced,.
There was a construction site next to hotel Dec 2005 ,outdoor swimming pool left to go green over winter.
Holiday rep was a newcomer to Andorra so not much help.
Quite a trek to the gondola.
