We have recently visited the Old Park Hotel . At first we we're slightly concerned , but as our week went on we grew to appreciate this friendly old hotel . We are a family of four ( 2 children ). Our children loved it , as our 7 year old says regularly she loved the " freedom " ! The food was good , if not enough , but I'm a pig !! The rooms are good if not particularly modern , but that is part of the attraction . The staff were always friendly and polite , the longer you stay the more you'll like it !

Our third time there but not our last
10 / 10
May 2009, Mosleyfamily

I have just read the last 2 reviews and I couldn't disagree more. They are a bit out of date now. We have just come back from our third three night stay at the Old Park Hotel. Being a family of seven we find it very hard to find a room which takes us all. The Old Park Hotel offers family suites behind one private door comprising of three bedrooms, bathroom and separate toilet too. The rooms as usual were clean and extremely comfortable. The childrens food was fresh, ie meat, veg, potatoes and gravy or homemade veg lasagne or pasta and veg. Pizza and chips were offered too but still the chips were home made. Adults meals were 10 out of 10, absolutely stunning food.
The atmosphere is always welcoming and relaxed and the children are free to roam the gorgeous gardens, they were out until dark most nights playing hide and seek with their new found freinds or playing games which are provided in the bar area. The badger watching is one of the highlights for the children. There is so much to do snooker, pool, table tennis, ball pit, swimming and THE GARDEN. WOW! What a garden with a huge climbing frame, football net and swings. Our children aged 12, 10 and 6 year old twins can't wait to go back (Mum in law is the seventh person I mentioned, just in case you wondered) Give it a try, it is a top quality break in a beautiful corner of the island. We will be going back next year without a doubt.

  • Advice: St Lawrence has a hidden treasure, The Old Park Hotel.
  • Activities: Robin Hill (a must, open space, natural beauty) and Flamingo Park (we stroked wallabys)

One of the worst hotels we have...

Jun 2008, Mrs S Page

One of the worst hotels we have stayed in, and also one of the most expensive.
from the outside it looks lovely and granted, the kids play area is nice.
Our room was awful. It was dirty, it smelt really musty like the inside of a rotting canvas tent. The heater in the bathroom was dodgy - noisy and could not be turned off. Maintenance finally came over but they just took the fuse out.
The children's bunk beds were old and tatty, the decor was not great.
The kids play area was filthy and I have never seen such a small swimming pool and it was in a dingy completely enclosed glorified garden shed.
Breakfasts and the children's high tea were ok. The adults evening meal was not impressive some of it was not edible.
Lovely island, lovely surroundings, but very very disappointed at the standard of this hotel and the price we paid was extortionate - we paid for 4/5 star standard and barely got 1 star accommodation.

The hotel on the outside looks OK....
1 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr D Cairncross

The hotel on the outside looks OK. The grounds are lovely and in the garden is a new large play area for the kids, but that is as far as it goes with good comments.
Our room was terrible the first morning I asked for the all the dead insects to be cleaned out the light fittings. The room consisted of three rooms - kid’s bedroom, master bedroom and bathroom. The kids room had a bunk bed but the top bunk had a very small guard and a child could easily had fallen out it looked like someone’s father in law had built it with a rusty old saw and some bits of wood he found laying around.
The room had been fitted with new six panel interior doors but they had not bothered to paint them. The bathroom had a bath with a hose and shower head but no clip on the wall to hold it up plus no shower curtain. I had to use the shower in the pool changing room to shower. The bathroom had carpet instead of a proper wet room floor.
The master bedroom had a 14" telly with no channel five. The hair dryer PAT test was overdue. The room smelled of dirt and the bed had not been moved to clean underneath in ages. All electrical fittings where from the sixties and they were yellow. The Isle of Wight is a great place to go but never stay at the Old Park Hotel, St Lawrence near Vetnor.
