Great place to stay
10 / 10
Aug 2010, Pam Ambler

Just having returned from Newquay and having stayed at Cotehele Lodge,i am amazed to find such negative comments about this Bed & Breakfast. On our arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome by the owners who offered to take our cases to our room which was just as discribed. The room was very clean, soap, shampoo, and body wash and body lotion was in the bathroom. There was also a complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate tray.
If you require breakfast at an extra cost, it is served to your room and we had fold away chairs and tables to eat off which was very handy and convenient. The larger rooms have dining tables and chairs. Breakfast was lovely, cooked to your liking and is served between 8am and 9am. Whatever time you asked for it, it was there on time and it was hot and there is plenty to choose from so I really recommend it.
The lodge is very conveniently placed. There is a Spar shop across the road and a large Sainsbury's which is a 3 minute walk away. The town centre of Newquay is a 5 minute walk if that, and its about the same to Fristral Beach, which is the nearest beach.
All in all we had a lovely few days away and the Cotehele Lodge is a lovely place and I would highly recommend it for great value for money and its good location. We will definitely be coming back!

All appears nice on the surface but lurking below & in the beds are slugs and lots!! never again!

Management response from nick willdig, owner 12 Jan 2011

these girls were asked to leave our property after waking myself and every other guest that was stopping here . They appeared to be having a party at 4a.m. after returning from the town with a bunch of male guests which they said they had bought home to find a slug or some sort of creature . the next day i asked them to leave and one of them was very abusive and threatening after this i refused to give them a refund until i had checked and re let the apartment . the next day some one connected to the group rang and apologised for their behaviour. this is precisely the reason we do not usually take groups but this was a local recommendation .

Slugs on the bed in the self catering apartment
1 / 10
Aug 2010, char

Our group was of four females staying during the boardmasters event, this accomodation was booked well in advance and we were pleased on arrival of the room type. On the second night we noticed a slug on the floor which had no trail so we believed it had fell off one one of the pull out beds! on our third night we had been out and one of the girls from the party had stayed in however her bed was further back of the room and she was asleep, it was only when i came back i noticed that my brown pillowcase and my bedclothes which were on the bed was covered in slug slime!!! as were in the outer building we did not want to call the management early hrs of the morning and asked some friends to remove this that had walked us home, they had wiped off the slime but the slug was still there behind the headboard and no one would move it by this point some noise had built up because of the distress and me feeling physically sick that my space was invaded by this pest, the female owner had heard the noise which has occured and threatens to throw us out for bringing in people, she was shown the slug and said she would bring her husband to remove it!!!......he never came until 9 0 am the next morning and said we were to leave 10 am as we were being thrown out for disturbing the guests. He denied that there were slugs and that his wife never told him of this... I am appalled at out treatment at this accomodation he would not reimburse us for the night lost of 100 pounds and said we owe it to the other guests who were disturbed during the nigh, no one was up from the other rooms. We were a group of mature women and I was there for my 30th birthday however he found it amusing that I had to sleep with my sister the night we got thrown out because my bed was infested, his version was that we were drunk and made it up!!!! Please if you read this and are planning on staying at the Cotehele Lodge apartment (Dont). The owner smiles in your face takes your money and the irony is he even tells you where to go out! unfortunately as soon as there is a problem you are out on the road and this was all caused because of the situation in the room with slugs getting in which he is in denial of, he was very smug and did not take the complaint seriously. I would only advise this place to people who are pest lovers and are accustomed to sleeping in them conditions. I have stayed at accomodations all over the world from Marmaris to Washington, this was by far the worst, so much for visit Britain.

We were restricted for a place to...
1 / 10
Sep 2006, Hils

We were restricted for a place to stay as everywhere was fully booked even though it was mid September. The place was ok, breakfasts was a good full English but the same every morning with no change. Downside we were there 4 nights and the room wasn't cleaned once, no soap in bathroom although we found out afterwards there should have been. Towels not changed, waste bin not emptied in all the four days we were there. Bed very uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to stay there again in a hurry.
