relaxing
read reports before booking. reviews reason i choose this accommodation. The reviews were rather over stated. the gardens are beautiful but the accommodation though clean, are slightly disappointing going by the reviews, not 4 star de luxe as stated, probably 3plus, they need to pay as much attention to the rooms as they do the gardens. sun beds were difficult to find. people sunbathing by 8.30 in the morning. towels on beds but no one who owned them in sight. the animation team were absolutely dreadful.its ok being quiet thoughout the day but it would have been nice to have had some entertainment in the evening. The food was good and always something even if you are a fussy eater. met a few people who had upset stomachs, myself included. this is a holiday destination which is enjoyable for a week to relax, but spoke to a few people who were there for two weeks who were bored. there is only about six hotels and nothing else in the area. if you do decide to go, the desert safari and the red sea cruise are brilliant. ok for a weeks sushine but no longer. weather was good and people helpful.
2 Weeks from 28th Feb
Having just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks at this hotel just like to say it is all i had read previously clean friendly and food of an acceptable standard i am a fussy eater but found enough to satisfy my needs. The only let down i found was the entertainment such a low key effort if anything needs a look at this is it very amatureish but the children are well looked after. The beach has an exellent location and Sharif the man on the beach really is attentive and keeps everyone happy always busy doing something Pizza's here are excellent. Snorkelling just off shore here is excellent and to be honest more variety's of fish here than in the Blue Hole so dont waste money on this trip, if you are just going to see the fish. The resort of Taba Hights will i am sure one day be a very upmarket place at the moment it is pleasant quiet and friendly place with unobtrusive building going on mostly around the outskirts and around this Hotel but stress it does not interfere with the enjoyment of this hotel and its fabulous location looking out over the resort.
Good value all inclusive!
Spent two weeks at the hotel in January. Were pleasantly surprised by the standard of accomodation and service, considering the price of the holiday. The room we were in was descibed as with a mountain view - This was certainly the case! The room was cleaned every day and was much larger than we expected. It included a mezanine bedroom with vaulted ceiling and a secluded balcony overlooking the mountains and a bedouin camp! The food was standard international fare with a wide selection of main courses and desserts. There were occasional highlights in the menu, like fresh Tuna, roast beef and the Belgian beef casserole - :¬) The all inclusive deal includes local beers, wine (red is better than the white) and local spirits-which were not up to UK standards, however after a couple who cares!! The staff were all friendly and helpful, with an excellent sense of humour and lots of smiles! Evenings tend to be low key with only a couple of events put on whilst we were there. (however we were out of season) If you are planning on visiting at this time of the year, I suggest that you might like to pack some warmer clothing for the evenings which can become quite chilly! It is cool that the hotel provides beach towels, for by the pool and also on the hotel beach. (restaurant there does good cheap pizzas!) Lots of excursions are offered. We visited the Pyramids in Cairo and suggest that the overnight trip is excellent value compared to the day marathon... Also visited Eilat, to see the maritime aquarium and to swim with the Dolphins. Although we travelled with First Choice, they were not running trips when we went, so ended up going with Longwood. Overall a very enjoyable holiday, which for all inclusive, we felt represented good value for money. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are going back in September 2006. Alan and Emma
Great Week
Lovely hotel for a week away in the sun. Not too big so you can't get lost and very quiet. We wanted a quiet week away chilling out and this was the perfect hotel for this. We mostly go to the carribean for all inclusive holidays, so were a bit worried at this much cheaper version but although unlike many of the carribean holidays there are drinks and food which is not included we didn't find this a problem as it's only if you want to eat at the beach or stay out late. We are keen divers and love snorkling, my husband was very happy to find some beautiful corals and marine life only a few meters from the beach. As well as the close proimaty to red sea water world which organise everything from glass bottom boats to five day scuba courses as well as a pretty fantastic beach. The hotel isn't on the beach but only and few minutes away on the free bus which runs every 30mins, this was a plus to us as it was very quiet and private. You do have to pay for some things at the beach but not for soft drinks and water. The service through out the hotel was very good, even at the beach the staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar is small but has a lovely outside table area overlooking the red sea and Saudi, lovely for pre dinner drinks. The food was fantastic, just the salads would have kept me happy for the week. There may not be enough choice for fussier eaters though. Taba Heights runs a restuarant scheme so all inclusive quests can eat at any of the other hotels al la carte restuarants and recieve a discount. As we usual eat out a few times on hoildays such as this anyway it was an added bonus. The Grotto at the Marriott had lovely food but it's the dancers that are worth going for. The al la carte restuarant in the TTC is Chez Pascal, the service was wonderful and the food outstanding and very good value. If you like to be entertained this may not be the hotel for you but if, like us you want peace and quiet, beutiful sunshine, some beautiful views and wonderful service, it is.
Very good value week
The Longwood deals for this resort keep the expectations low. What do u really expect for under £500, all-inclusive? We were therefore pleasantly surprised by the hotel, which is the poor relation to the other luxury brand hotels in this still-being-constructed resort. The rooms were perfectly adequate, and clean. Don't get one which is handy for reception/restaurant, and overlooking the pool, unless u wish to be seriously bothered at night by the dreadful music played loudly by the entertainments team (more about them later)The buffet food was not bad at all, with a fairly good variety. (The Indian curry restaurant, immediately adjacent to the hotel , is excellent) The free/all inclusive drinks are a real carry on: "no sir, you CANNOT have a pint of beer until midnight, at which time you will have to pay for it. Until then, please have as many free quarter pints as u wish!!!!" As another has already commented , the bar gets really smokey, and one can be bothered by inconsiderate guests in the restaurant The only really poor thing about the hotel is the dreadful "entertainments" team. As referred to already, they enjoy playing dreadful music really loud but, other than that, provide no entertainment whatsoever. A couple of the trips available are really worthwhile (even if not inexpensive)eg Petra and Jerusalem. All in all, a good value week. Not sure that I would really fancy the location once the resort is completed, and it fills up. It really is a concrete jungle beside the sea
A week relaxing at the El Wekala Golf Resort, Taba Heights
Have just returned from a week relaxing at the El Wekala Golf Resort, in Taba Heights having booked with Longwood. We stayed between 26/1/06 – 02/02/06 and had a lovely time. The resort is very modern in design as it has only been open 12 months. Everything but a few of the shops at the rear of the resort are totally finished and it is clean and tidy and aesthetically very pleasing. The views of the Gulf of Acaba and the Saudi mountains from the terrace and the pool are very pleasant and quite enchanting during the sunrise. The accommodation is very spacious and of a high standard. The bedrooms were well equipped and were pleasant places just to chill out in their own right. Rooms had aircon/heating and bathrooms had powerful shower with hairdryer and shaver point. The weather during our stay was very changeable with some very hot sunny days, some average days, and some cloudy and windy days where it was actually rather chilly! Too chilly really to sit outside and enjoy dinner on the terrace. Luckily we had been forewarned and had brought jackets and jumpers, which we needed. We both love our food and felt that overall the food was very good. There was not a massive selection/variety but there was always something tasty whether it be a hot pasta/meat dish or a good choice of interesting and unusual fresh salads. Deserts were very also very good and we often ended up stacking out plates right up. The all inclusive deal was very good value for money, as this included being able to refill drinking water bottles to take back up to the rooms. The drinks served at Peanuts bar varied in quality and presentation and were “by the glass” but this was not a issue, unlike the inconsiderate guests that often plonked themselves next to us before lighting up a fag. A non-smoking area of the bar and terrace would have enhanced our enjoyment. In terms of entertainment there was not a great deal to do at the resort. This didn’t really bother us though as we just came to relax for the week. Had it been warmer in the evenings we definitely would have made more of the all-inclusive bars and sat out in the evenings. As Peanuts bar itself is quite small and got busy/smoky we often went back to our bedroom early. Who knows what the Animation/Entertainments team actually did apart from wonder around looking bored. There were excursions on offer during the day and we went on the Camel ride. This was good and worth doing, although you don’t actually go to a Bedouin village as the is suggested by the tour blurb. Our Longwood rep Peter was very professional and helpful, albeit a bit miserable. The pool and the beach were both good, although due to the weather the water was not very warm. We did manage to swim a couple of times though and the reef a short distance from the beach is worth snorkeling as it is far better than we had expected and supports an abundance of marine life. Take your beach shoes though as there is a lot of shingle at the edge of the water (you can brave it though as it doesn’t go that far out). The food at the beach bar is not all-inclusive, however it was not expensive and very tasty and we ate there a couple of times, as we wanted to stay on the beach all day. We particularly liked the pizza, which appeared to be freshly made. Soft drinks etc. were all-inclusive and were by the glass. The staff at the beach bar were all very friendly and courteous: take a few pounds for a tip as everything else you can just add to your room bill with no hassle. All in all we had a very enjoyable relaxing week and would recommend the resort to anyone who just wants to chill out and relax. As soon as weather gets warmer and the golf course is finished the location and facilities will make the resort even more sought after. The resort was not especially busy when we stayed. Great Holiday
I had a very enjoyable week here from December 13 – 20. My 3 children (11, 15, 20) had a great time just hanging around the hotel and the beach. The hotel was very nice. All members of staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was good. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The weather was good i.e. warm and sunny enough to swim in the sea. The snorkelling just off the beach was fantastic. The Blue Hole trip was great (fabulous snorkelling) but I’d have happily given Dahab a miss. The Cairo trip was a good experience, although Cairo itself is a (---). The pyramids and the museum were excellent. The guides on both trips were also excellent. All the Egyptians we met were friendly and good humoured. The children selling trinkets at the Blue Hole were friendly but persistent; they really would appreciate some food/sweets and a little money. I would definitely return to this hotel and resort.
Beautifully designed.
When we arrived at the hotel in the dark evening we were absolutely bowled over by it's design and cleanliness. The place is stunning and worthy of a 4+ for design alone. The staff seemed friendly and we looked forward to our holiday. Until we went for dinner. As it's all inclusive its served canteen style and sadly the food was very disappointing. OK we didn't eat meat and there was fish on offer however, served whole and covered in lord knows what or mashed into a very peculiar looking sausage thing or rife with bones. Dinner for the meat eaters looked fab enough, some nights were theme nights and there would be a kebab table outside and BBQ. Lunch was the same every day: spaghetti with tomato sauce, chips, burgers etc. Salads were nice though. Desserts - I read someone called them out of this world and that the Belgian Chef was excellant who made them. We met the dessert chef and he so wasn't Belgian! Breakfast - bread sometimes was stale, get the chef to make you fresh pancakes as they were fabulous, coffee - I couldn't even call it coffee. They use a huge great vat and fill it with instant coffee. Foul. Now, I'm not one of those nutters who goes abroad expecting english food in the hotel - when in Rome and all that, but they need to sort their food selection out as it let down the hotel. We tried the a la carte restaurant one night thinking we'd getter better food - its the same food just silver served and you pay for it! We had an irish coffee there (we were advised it was fantastic by the waiter so thought why not) - they make a big song and dance about it and make it with white sugar, instant coffee and whipped cream which they had to stir to loosen into a kind of pouring cream. The amount of whisky they put in it made it nice though. Do try it to experience the "show". Some of the staff are lovely especially Tariq in the restaurant - he'll do anything for you and not because he expects a tip - just a very good guy - please tip him well. Some of them are not. The shops are irritating especially the main guy in the papyrus paper shop - very pushy and arrogant. Everyone warned us to haggle but they're only willing to drop a few quid becuase they consider Westerners rich. There are no women working in the resort and its quite clear where women stand. I was with my husband and still felt a bit threatened. What I found disgusting was the fact that after 12 you have to pay for drinks - that's fair enough! but this included water bottles. When westerners can't drink the water from the tap this is terrible. If it wasn't for the food and a lot of the staff we would go back but it was the first holiday ever where I've never wanted to get home to England so much. One other hint - if you ask for a balcony or terrace room from First Choice (like we did) and pay extra for it, expect to get a terrace room because the hotel wants you to pay them extra still for a balcony. If you can get a balcony with pool/sea view room it's the best one.
for oldies
firstly must say arrived expecting a game of golf not happening golf course aint any where near done. weather fabulous. Hotel is lovely and clean and staff can not do enough for you they are really nice friendly people. We were a bit afraid of terrorists but needed not be as there is security as you enter resort and on all hotel entrances. The food was not fantastic and not really a lot of choice of hot dishes if you like pasta, rice and salad it will be fine, desserts were fantastic, I would say breakfast was best meal of day. On our last two nights we ate at the tandori pub next door and the food was lovely well worth a visit. There is no night life and all socialising is around peanuts bar entertainment team need a good sorting out as they dont really entertain it all ends about 10;30, our latest night was 12;15 and were in bed by 21;30 all other nights. For your sun bathing by the pool take the beds at other side of pool opposite the bar as the sun goes behind the mountains at about 3;30 and you loose the sun on that side. We only done one excursion to the blue hole it was great if you are going and plan to do this excursion take with you a pick and mix for the bedouin boys who take you from the jeep to the blue hole and they will all gather around these children really dont have anything, on the whole we enjoyed the holiday just relaxing but really that is all there is to do as the resort has nothing except waterworld where you can do watersports. I plan on going back to egypt next year but going to try a more livlier resort. hope my review has helped and hope you enjoy your holiday

Longwood should be congratulated, 3 corners El Wekala is a great value all inc, Good chance you will find something to suit your taste in food, every day. Happy prof service from Mahmood our main drinks waiter, an exceptional man and all other resteraunt staff and chefs. Room staff very honest and helpful. Great reps, Tour Guide Peter very professional. Went to Moses mountain at night for sunrise on our first week, amazing but not for the un-fit, need to be marathon runner fit and warm clothing (including gloves required, if not a must)! You would only do this once unless your crazy. Petra Jordan in week 2, terrific, the Guide Waleed, very very good, he should be, he lived in a cave there as a boy! but his knowledge and command of English was superb he was proud of his birthplace and it showed. Meal included at Hotel in Petra excellent. Horse ride up the last mile, free with the price of the tour, good fun. Beach at Hotel only short 5 min, free bus ride, you need to see the coral and fish in abundance, Three good reefs just a swimming pools length off shore snorkel and beach shoes a must, only stoney for first 4 feet. Not the Hilton, but no complaints at all. Would go again no hesitation and our general rule is never the same place twice. Dave A, Derbyshire.
