Just returned from a week at the Three Corners celebrating my 50th birthday
What an I say the place is very freindly, clean and ideal for a quite time just chilling out, Spain it is not
The staff and Egyptians are very friendly and welcoming and will do all they can to make your stay special, even sent me a birthday card, the holiday Rep Kathleen was also helpful and informative and easy to et hold of.
Never went on any trips and I thought them to be very expensive and not worth the money, also why do First Choice give the price in sterling, then change to Egyptian and covert back to sterling is you pay by credit card?
The hotel was very nice in a good location, next to the shops, our room was large and airy, ver clean, and it also made change not to have to pay for the safe
The food was okay, and there was plenty of it so no need to rush to the dining room on opening, the salads were fine, never has a stomach bug nor did any one else we meet, also it made a change to be given bottle water on arrival and extra bottles in the week with the option of filling up the bottles from the dipnsers around site
The beach was wonderful, and the view of the mountains outstanding, the fish and coral were a site to be seen
Only down side was Taba International airport, more like something out of the dark ages and as we landed at the same time as 2 other carriers it was not the best 600 plus people all trying to get their passports stamps with no idea or help with what you need to do made for an interesting time, and the 5 hous delay coming home was somthing I never wish to endure again, 300 people with 6 toilets well judge for yourself.
All in all very nice place and will be going back next year if only for the winter sun

My friend and i went for one week for a chilled out holiday in the sun and thats what we got. Great hotel, spaceous room and all the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The food was great, lots of selection, caters for all tastes. The beach is clean and the snorkling was great, the hotel pool is nice and lovely surroundings.
Petra trip good (quite expensive, long day, lots of walking at least 6KM (i didnt fancy the getting a horse ride back). avoid buying drinks at Marriot where we had included lunch as they are very expensive.

Just spent a week at the three Corners El Wekala, all inclusive, very displeased that all inclusive does not apply to the actual beach bar, where you had to pay for food and any alcoholic drinks, which where pricy, this to our way of thinking does not qulify as all inclusive, we were at the St George at Sharm last February and all inclusive applied to the beach bar, not just the hotel, so we will not be returning to Taba.
The pool area was great, the pool itself excellent, the room we had was spacious, and clean, the dining room and food was very good, and the outside eating area was very nice, but alas the Peanut bar is like something out of a wild west movie, dismal, very tired and a little grotty to say the least, a definate no no.
The outside entertainment area was also a letdown, as was the poor type of entertainment, with children running around.
The staff were brilliant, they could not do enought for you, Sammy and Jimmy in the dining room were great, as were the housekeepers and the towel lads, also the reception were very helpfull as were the reps.

  • Advice: Complex fine but outside the complex there is very little.
  • Activities: We walked the beach almost every day, which was lovely.

Payed £230 each for 1 week great value
All we wanted was just to chill for 1 week before Xmas
It ticked all boxes in the day
Evening was very boring, same old thing, animation team were very poor
they only catered for a small group between 14 & 21 year old`s
considering the majority of guest`s were around about between 40`s & 50`s
Cannot fault the Rep ( Thompson`s ) she was very helpfull and informative
would go back for late deal
Kevin.

Taba, Red Sea 2008
7 / 10
Dec 2008, SarahGwilliam

Nice hotel, clean, lovely setting, well laid out, easy to get to everything. Set in side of mountain with lovely views of mountain and breathtaking views of the red sea. Easy access to beach on free bus which runs every 30 mins. Weather always good. Good selection of shops and restaurants within a 2 minute walk.
Staff friendly and efficient but management clearly not interested in customer satisfaction. We were given a really nice room with a mezzanine level inside and an internal staircase with no bannister. As we have a two year old this was a disaster for us as we could not let him out of our sight for a second. We had to barricade the middle area with suitcases and chairs etc when our toddler went to sleep so that if he woke up he would not attempt the stairs down to the bathroom or stairs up to the main bed area. We asked 4 times to be moved but hotel said nothing was available (despite a constant turnover of guests over a two week period). They were just not interested. We also spoke to the rep who said it was down to the hotel to sort out.
Apart from that, the hotel was good and we had a great holiday. Food was simple, of good quality but lacked variety. It was fine for us. Same types of dishes were served over and over so if you get bored of the same food most days then there are several restaurants just outside the hotel complex with different types of foods. Most will give you a discount for being a hotel guest if you book in advance and get a voucher. We tried Chez Pascal, the Belgian one, the steaks were excellent and the price was very reasonable.
The Peanuts bar is the only evening bar available for alcohol and entertainment. As part of it is built inside (as opposed to open-air), it stinks of cigarette smoke. The hotel should seriously think about knocking down the wall that faces the terrace to expand the seating area (always tricky trying to get a seat after dinner) and it would get rid of the smoke at the same time. As a non smoker, I couldn’t sit in there and always tried to get a seat outside which was a battle! Never enough bar staff on shift, no waiter service and as the queue was usually out of the door to get a drink, We used to get a couple of rounds in one go otherwise you spend most of your evening just queuing.
Evening entertainment was ok, not always something on every night. Nothing else going on in local area so if you want an exciting evening then this is not the hotel for you. As we were looking for a quiet holiday it was fine for us. Quality of entertainment was ok, there were four male dancers who appeared a couple of times per week and performed various routines who were rather nice and lots of fun!
Watersports good, watersports centre is only one stop on the bus so very easy to get to and lots going on. Good value for money. Scuba diving excellent. Hotel can organise everything for you through Mohammed who works every day next to pool bar.
Pools clean and nice. Water freezing - even in toddler pool which did not encourage our little one to get in!
Quality of tours was excellent, we did Cairo and Petra, shopping in Dahab and the glass bottom boat. Tour guides were knowledgeable with good standard of English. Ali Baba restaurant in Dahab was great, good fresh food but did not serve alcohol. Take your camera as the layout was stylish with beautiful ocean views. Lots of fun shops and bargains to be had! Long road trip but worth the effort.
Petra trip is fantastic and is a must-see! Beautiful lost city. Take a jumper as it can get cold. It’s also a long walk over bumpy stones so flip–flops won’t do. It’s possible to get a pony & trap on way down and way back but it is expensive – about £18 round trip. Jordanian Customs officials slow and visas expensive but the trip makes it worth the wait. Lunch at Movenpick hotel (which was part of the trip) was incredible – everything really fresh, loads of variety and amazing quality. Calamari was fantastic! Please beware of buying drinks at the hotel – some people in our group were charged £12 for two beers and another couple were charged £8 for two cokes!!!!!!! Prices quoted on drinks list did not include tax and service. There are no drinks of any sort included in this trip, not even coffee after the food – seems wrong somehow when the cost of the trip is £138 per person... Take your own so you don’t get clobbered by the hotel or shop…
Good tip: If you do Cairo and Petra or Eilat or Dead sea trips then you MUST buy your visa when you arrive in Egypt at Taba airport - if you don't you can't travel. If you plan on visiting more then one area then do Cairo first otherwise you have to buy two visas - don't know why but that's the way it is! If you go to Cairo first then you only have to buy one visa.
Good tip: Buy antibacterial hand gel to take with you and use after handling the money as it carries bacteria that will definitely give you a bad stomach upset.
Good tip: take a toilet roll - taba airport toilets are disgusting, smelly and the cleaners will try and charge you for using their loo roll. Also no soap.
Would definitely go back to red sea area, Taba Heights is extremely quiet but if you are looking to get away from it all then it’s for you. If you want a slightly busier holiday with more going on (but as not as OTT as Sharm) then consider Dahab.

We have just returned from the Three...
5 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr R Browning

We have just returned from the Three Corners Hotel and thought you might want to read our reviews, the weather is fantastic the sun only goes down behind the mountain at 4pm and to be honest that's it. only joking. Our twin bedded room was great and our housekeeping man 'Ali' (tip him) kept our room tidy and supplied us with fresh towels every day. The pool was great, very clean and the staff were always collecting you empty cups and rubbish. It is well worth booking your trips through MAX who is now located by the Pizza shop, very helpful and much cheaper than First Choice, would very highly recommend the sea snorkeling trip on the Sea hawk boat, the guides spoke great English and went in the sea with you and pointed out all the different fish for you, the buffet lunch was very tasty and drinks were also included at no extra charge (no beer) a very relaxing and enjoyable day. The trip to the Blue Hole where we went quad biking, camel riding and snorkeling at the Blue Hole was great, only down side it was a long journey to get to there 1 hour 15 minutes, you get lunch in Dahab but you have to pay for your drinks and starters (good fresh seafood though).
NOW the down side the hotel food is very below average and you really do struggle for choice other that beef, chicken, salad and fish, the staff are always hovering over you waiting to take your plates away (very off putting sometimes), breakfast is not too bad always freshly cooked fried eggs, we had to eat out 5 times on our second week which puts the cost of the holiday up by a considerable amount, but don't get me wrong the restaurants around the complex are good value for money ( 400 Egyptian pounds for 2 people with drinks and tip) and can recommend both the Flying Carpet and Pub Tandoori, all their staff speak good English which does help.
The animation team leave a lot to be desired if your not a young person who is into 'Rave' music all the time at the disco which never started before 11 pm and only went on for an hour. so you are stuck for something to do, there is a street festival every Friday which has a live band and dancers but it comes with a buffet meal and you have to pay extra for this unless you try and get a seat around the edge.
There are some competitions but again geared up for the younger generation and if there are no contestants the animation team don't think of anything else to get the audience involved with, unless you can belly dance because most of the music played is for that. The day time entertainment consists of always the same water polo, aqua gym in the morning and the hotel song, the afternoon is water polo, belly dance classes and darts, they need to come up with more ideas for certain to improve the daytime unless you are only there for the sunshine.
The taf taf bus takes you down to the beach is great but only runs every half an hour so if its full you end up waiting around until it comes back loosing time down the beach, you can walk it but to be honest its far to hot.
Hotel good, food poor but this is my opinion.

We recently came back from 1 weeks...
7 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr W Lamb

6 readers found this review helpful

We recently came back from 1 weeks all inclusive at the 3 corners and I must say that, all-in-all, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The Detail:
We arrived very late on the first night and were treated to a luke warm dinner buffet that had clearly been saved from when the main buffet closed - not the best after travelling for so many hours, but much needed. The hotel buffet food did not improve much over the week (thank god it was only a week) and was generally luke warm and catered a lot for the Belgian guests (the hotel is Belgian owned).
The restaurants in the area were very nice, but check how much discount you get for forsaking your all inclusive first as the advertised one was only available in the Belgian restaurant. We tried the Mexican and the Thai restaurants which were both very nice if expensive! To give you an idea a mexican meal of 2 starters and 2 Mains set us back GB £30 (English prices anyone?) and that was including our 'discount'. We also ate breakfast/lunch at the Cafe/Bar at the watersports centre (can't remember the name). The food was simple yet fantastic, and much more reasonably priced.
Being a Diver myself, I spent most of my time on the Diving Boats (even treated myself to a couple of courses) and I must say all the Dive Masters/Instructors were fantastic (particularly John). They all spoke perfect english and there was never any difficulty understanding any of them. The boats themselves were brilliant quality and the diving was great. We even saw a few Rays whilst we were there. I would highly recommend the all day boat (3 dives) as not only is the diving good, but the crew cook up a lovely fresh meal whilst you are diving which you can eat whilst soaking up the rays from the front of the boat. The dive sites are much quieter than sharm and we were always the only boat there.
The Petra trip is a must if you are in to that sort of thing. When you get there the guide recommends you walk down and get the horse & carriage back but we would recommend getting it both ways as there really is not much to see until you get to the main area, and walking back in the Jordanian heat is a real killer, especially when you've been up since the early hours!
Check with Max in reception as well as the rep if you are tight on time (as we were) as they run the trips on different days and transport methods (Max does Jerusalem by plane whereas the rep did not).
The staff were great, particularly Mohammed at the pool. Peanuts bar was nice enough but the A/C broke down halfway through the week and it was just too unbearable to go in and wasn't fixed for days.
In Summary:
The food may have been bad and the restaurants expensive, but we were determined to enjoy ourselves. The Diving was great and all the staff were very friendly. Even the non-divers enjoyed themselves.
A Few Tips:
>When you arrive DO NOT upgrade to a pool view. The Mountain views are brilliant anyway and the pool DJ will only blast you with his 'ecclectic' choice of music.
>Take plenty of Toilet Paper with you to Taba Airport for the return flight. There is nothing to do and the licensed muggers in orange jumpsuits will try and charge you £1 (GBP) per sheet of toilet paper.
>It might be a good idea to take a few Egyptian Pound Notes (about 10p) with you to tip people on arrival. The orange jumpsuit men bank on you only having big notes when you arrive and try not to let you get past without a tip.
>It is advisable to always wash your hands after handling the Egyptian money as it is actually made out of fabric, not plastic or paper like most, and carries a lot of dirt and bacteria. Some people carry some alcohol gel (you can get it in Boots) and rinse their hands in that after handling cash.
>As always when in a foreign country it is advisable to avoid Rice (could have been re-heated), Fresh salad + fruit (often washed in local water). Try and stick to the boiled veg and fruit that you have to peel yourself.
Hope this helps and enjoy!

We have just got back from the Three...

We have just got back from the Three corners El Wekala Resort and all I can say is that thank god for the lovely weather and views! To start with the food was awful and every one we spoke to said the same, even those staying at the other Three Corner Resorts. We had a party of four (2 adults and 2 children), we were given a room which slept 3, so ended up on the first night, after a 5 and a half hour flight and 40+ minute drive with very tired children , at 11 o' clock at night trying to arange an extra bed for my son. As you can gather they wanted extra money for an upgrade but I would not comply. A bed was found but with out a mattress and we were promised a mattress the next day. Two days later with no Thompson rep in site, my husband took a mattress from a room that had been vacated and was in the process of being cleaned. Others at the hotel had this done to them as well and they paid for a room upgrade but were given rooms where there is no peace from the music which is played late, I was glad I didn't upgrade. One couple and their child on their first night ended up with a room with a broken lock, they could not get out of the room and eventually had to throw the keys from the balcony to an employee to open the door from the outside. It ended up costing them an extra £80 to move rooms as one wouldnt be given free and they wouldnt fix the lock till the next day. Its anything for extra money at your comfort.
The restaurant was a free for all and with many rude guests made eating a unenjoyable experience and plus the food wasn't up to much and for the first few days all I ate was the bread as this was the only nice thing to eat, everything else after that seemed to hit mosts peoples stomachs running! The menu is the same through out each day and gets boring also not enough fruit was served. The waiting staff were lovely but towards the tail end of the holiday they kept bringing cold drinks in very hot glasses (just out of dishwasher), hot sprite or coca cola is not a nice experience where ever you are. All inclusive only extends to the resort and not to their own beach bar (that includes drinks too). One guy we spoke to had complained because the food at the beach bar was lovely (even though you had to pay) and he wanted to know why the same quality was not applied in the restaurant.
The staff were lovely and could not do enough for you, but if considering tipping them I would do it discreetly as someone tipped a memebr of staff and the management took the money off them to put in a sort of tip bank where they get the lions share, then share the rest of the tips out, after you consider how much the staff get paid a month and the fact you are tipping a certain member of staff for their service to you personally we tipped using methods of money in cigerette packets and offering them ciggie. The tipping of the sunbed staff did get annoying as there wasn't enough beds to go round so its either tip them or get up at 6.30 to save some beds.
The added extras were annoying and expensive a street festival would have cost £60 for four of us for 2 hours with buffet food, which happened to be the same food from the all inclusive restaurant. Also the Quad biking and other excursions were ridiculously priced (£160 for 2 hours), we never tried Max though in the reception, I heard he did better deals but frankly the added extras left a bitter taste.
The cleaners where great, but I would advise having a spare toilet paper roll in your bag for when using the shared toilets as these ran of paper all the time, especially aound the pool. Also take a spare roll in Taba Airport and out of Resort as especially in the airport you will have the employees sat outside them trying to sell toliet paper to you as they don't supply it. This happens at every one of the toliets in the airport and the authority staff just turn a blind eye, also I watched the same male staff wander in to the ladies loos to sell the paper, that toilet paper alone is the best tip I can give you for the airport. Taba Airport I found to be a horrendous experience I have ever been through, one I will never repeat.
There is a Gym at the resort but unfortunatly walking past this room made my stomach turn as the smell I could only describe as an incontinent old relative that hasn't changed or washed for 4 weeks and has been left out in the sun! As you can imagine I could not bring myself to do even 20 mins on the treadmill.
The beach was lovely and quiet, the snorkelling was amazing!! I could never understand why the beach was so quiet and the resort ran a free bus there and back. Route 2 down and route 1 back was the quickest altho the staff at reception wasn't helpful on this and I was just told the little white bus, which was just rubbish. The only two downfalls of the beach where that you have to pay for the food/drinks the other is the stones/rocks. The sand is quite stoney when you get there not too bad you think, until you get to the waters edge and there are big stones, small boulders for about 5 feet till you get to the sea then about 6 feet into the sea, after that its sand then later coral for snorkelling. You definatly need sandals of some kind to get into the sea. To be honest is seemed quite un-natural for that sized rocks to be at the sea edge.
The Thompson Rep we had was useless and I saw more of the first choice rep and the thompson rep from another hotel, both were alot better. When I finally saw our Rep, I thought he was a over endulgant tourist and when I asked about the departure time (as this was 12 o'clock on Tuesday, but we could stay in the room till 6pm if we paid more surprise, surprise, and we weren't leaving the hotel till 7pm) we were told there was a hospitality room for us. We assumed that meant our luggage and changing facilities etc, I should never assume! This meant leaving your luggage outside the reception in the open and you getting changed in a toilet somewhere. Also the all inclusive finishes at 3pm on day of departure so after that no food or drinks! I know many guests kept popping back to make sure their luggage was still around and some were due to see the rep about complaints on the last night and he never turned up.
The general feeling from everyone that we spoke to including ourselves was absolutely wonderful weather and views but never, never again!

Just Returned from 2 week stay at...
8 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr D Hyndman

2 readers found this review helpful

Just Returned from 2 week stay at hotel ( 2 adults 2 children).
Flew from Mcr with First Choice. The flight was fine, the food was actually quite good, and the films entertained the children for most of the journey.
Taba airport is very small. The arrival hall was bunged and somewhat chaotic. Make sure you get a full visa if you want to travel outside of the sinai during your stay (ie cairo, pyramids, Israel). This costs £10 each but works out cheaper if you pay in US dollars.
The trip to the Hotel was lively to put it bluntly best advice? - lie back and think of Alton towers. ( The chap loading cases on the coach will ask for a tip for litterally throwing them into it, most people don't bother, but hey if you feel generous why not?)
Lovely welcome at El Wakela, orange juice, and a relaxing meal in the restaurant. Perfect after the white knuckle ride through the desert.
They will offer to upgrade your room to one with a view of the pool where the Egyptian DJ can torture you into the small hours with his own ecclectic choice of loud music. We were happy with the mountain view we were allocated. Small for four, with camp style beds for girls, but spotlessly clean, and the beds were made up and fresh provided towels each day.
Food was fine in the restaurant. The staple diet in Egypt is rice (ruz) and pasta (maccarona) and you will see plenty of both. There is always a beef, chicken and fish option, and some great soups and salads but alas, not a turkey twizzler in sight. Breakfast is excellent. That said any menu will get dull after 2 weeks but you can always eat out for a night. The waiters are all pleasant and helpful.
The pool attendants were great too , Mohammed (one of the many) and Amir found us sunbeds each day. No tip was asked for by any of the staff in the Hotel, but by the end of the holiday you will want to tip them all for their kind service.
We did the one day trip to Cairo with Thomson - great and well worth the money. We were even accompanied by a security guard carrying a machine gun under his coat - just in case one of the street sellers really couldn't take no thanks (la shukron) for an answer!
Trip to Dahab for shopping with Max (local company with rep in reception) was good, nice meal included in price ( though not drinks or chips!) real fun to be had haggling for goods in the shops on the one street in Dahab, even more to be had simply haggling to get back out of the shop.
All in all an enjoyable holiday, and an eye opener to life for people in Egypt. Hope you have a great time.

We had a wonderful 2 weeks at the 3...
9 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs S KNIGHT

We had a wonderful 2 weeks at the 3 Corners hotel, which we found excellent value for money. We arrived at about 11pm and were greeted with orange juice by very friendly and efficient staff, and also the restaurant had been kept open for us.We had 2 rooms,1 for myself and my husband and 1 for the kids to share. We had a lovely sea view,(which we didn't have to pay extra for),and the rooms were next to each other ,which we hadn't thought of requesting until 5 days before the holiday,so phoned to request then. The rooms were lovely, surprisingly big and spotlessly clean - as they were throughout the holiday, with clean sheets and towels every day,and the lovely swan towel 'sculptures' sometimes. We found the pillows very flat,so asked the next morning for another 3 in each room, and they were there by the afternoon! The air conditioning was very good, considering it was on 24/7,and the fridge was useful for keeping water cold. There was also a safety deposit box in each room with no charge.
The pool was fantastic, and the pool bar service was good.Yes,lovely Mohammed was very good and saved us a sunbed every day,and we tipped him the meagre sum of 50p a day for that - not that he asked for it.We felt it was worth it,and also it was nice to get free towels every day for the sunbeds.
The beach was just a 5 minute bus ride away on the 'taf-taf 'bus which was very cool as it was open,or you could go on the hotel minibus. The beach was lovely, with free sunbeds and little windbreaks and umbrellas. The sea was warm and clear, and you can snorkel from the little jetties, which my daughter and husband did,and saw some lovely fish.
Now for the few downsides! The food isn't spectacular, but we've been to Tunisia lots of times, and it was on a par with the hotels there! It was Ok,we certainly didn't starve, but it was very 'samey',though the beef wellington was superb!.The waiters were very friendly and service was good. And water was always available from the restaurant or bars for FREE.
The only bar is the Peanuts Bar which is dark and gloomy and full of cigarette smoke! You can sit outside with a drink, but we found it too hot,as it was still about 30 degrees in the late evening. It was hot to walk around the few shops too,so we often ended up back in the room with our drinks, playing cards! There was virtually no evening entertainment, although there was a small open amphitheatre at the back of the hotel,so it was a bit boring. There are also a few restaurants, and we went to Cez Pascal one evening, where we had the most wonderful steaks and drinks for under £30 for the 4 of us!
We all had little tummy ' twinges' which we just put down to the food/heat/water change, but my husband was poorly for several days.We resorted to the little pharmacy at the back of the hotel, having decided imodium was not doing the trick, and £3.50 was well spent,as my husband was fine in 12 hours! Also,if,like me you have to get Zovirax for cold sores or blisters (£5 for weeny tube here) ,go and stock up from the pharmacy - £5 for a giant tube ! Pay for everything in English money,as we did - we only took cash, and changed a small amount into Egyptian pounds, but all the shops are happy to take English money.
Highly recommended is the Day trip to Cairo - a very long day but well worth it.We booked though ' Max' ,having read the good reports, and saved ourselves over £100 on the Thompson prices. We had our own very good driver,a lovely guide who met us in Cairo and took us round the museum,Pyramids,Sphinx and boat trip, and came with us to the restaraunt for our lunch (all this for £60 each). We had a wonderful day!
All in all we had a lovely time, and the kids (16 and 14) are already nagging to go back next year, which we're seriously considering. For people like us,on a bit of a budget,we thought it was extremely good value for money, and wish we were still there!!
