If you have booked a holiday in this hotel do not be worried by any bad reviews. Although this hotel is only 3* it offers excellent value for money simply because the staff are diligent and friendly. Yes the hotel needs updating particularly the bar area which has a 1970's look to the decor but this is made up for by being very clean, and offering good food which is always hot and varied.

My friend and I, both 22, have recently returned from one week, all-inclusive holiday at Hotel Sol d'Or.

We booked the holiday through teletext as a late deal and did not know what to expect as it was not with a major tour operator. Therefore, we had little knowledge of the hotel or the area.

The hotel was situated a few minutes walk from La Pineda where there was numerous bars, restaurants and the sandy beach. It was a nice resort with some nightlife but for a more lively night, Salou was a short taxi ride away. The aqua park was walking distance from the hotel and Port Aventura was about 10 minutes taxi away.

We arrived at the hotel at 10am; however, the room was not ready until 12noon. This was not a problem as we were given a secure room to leave our luggage and could use all the facilities in the meantime.

The accommodation was brilliant for a 3* hotel. The room was immaculate and spacious. The cleaners changed the towels every day and the bedding was changed once. It could be quite noisy at night, doors banging and people talking, as there were no doors separating the lobby area to the corridors.

We were given an all-inclusive card, which included bottled water, which was great for during the day. There was a wide range of dishes available at each meal time, ranging from vegetarian to a chef cooking fresh meat, almost like an indoor barbeque! Even for the fussiest eater you could get by with burger and chips each mealtime. The food was always hot and of a high standard. Our only fault with the food was that there is only so much pasta and rice you can eat, and if we had been there for two weeks we would have become bored with the options.

The hotel offered entertainment during the day but this was limited due to the facilities at the hotel. Most evenings there was some form of entertainment with a cabaret show every Saturday evening.

The hotel accommodated people of all nationalities and for once getting a sun bed mid-morning was not a problem!

The hotel staff were friendly and tried to cater for all your needs. We did not have any problems whilst staying here and would definitely book there again.
