excellent holiday
We have just returned after spending two weeks in this resort, It was very good and an excellent place to take a family holiday. the village is geared totally towards the needs of the family my children are 10 and 13 and they had a great time. The are 3 playgrounds and a bouncy castle, two pools and two small pools, a hotel run kids club/entertaiment team and a first choice kids club. My children did not use the kids club but found that there were plenty of games to join in with and plenty to do, we hardly saw them the second week they found it easy to make freinds as there were so many children. The food was good, plenty of choice greek food and english and lots of fresh bread, there was enough variety for any taste. The village was very clean and tidy and i didnt see any rubish left around at all, the staff work very hard but are always freindly and helpful. I was not sure what to expect from the apartments as greece can be rather basic, I was pleasantly surprised as they were roomy and comfortable with a massive balcony with a clothes horse and table and chairs. Inside the apartment kettle and crockery, fridge tv airconditioning, bathroom very nice with shower. Very clean. Cleaners came in everday to change bin and make bed. Every other day to change towels etc. The is a small problem with wasps and mosquitos but this is only because the village has a lot of vines, trees, bushes, grassy areas etc when in a hot climate you cannot have one without the other, i took reppellant with me and citronella tea lights, we ate outside the whole time we were there and had the odd few bites but this certainely isnt the problem other reviewers have made out, my advice on this is go prepared or sit inside the restaurant. the beach is a 5-10 minute walk down though a wooded area which gives some pleasant shade from the hot sun. the beach is very pituresque and the water cool and clear, sometimes it was quite crowded especially near the beds and sunshades, however we bought a shade for 5 euros and then went to the less crowded area. My only critism would be that chrousso is ten minutes by car to the nearst town and we prefer to be able walk into the town and not be reliant on taxis, however chrousso do provide a mini bus three times a day but you need to book in advance. Overall this is an excellant place to go if you children under 16 and want a very relaxing holiday.
Dedicated team of staff
I have just returned from Chrousso village after spending 7 days there just me (aged 19) and my mum. we were expecting a quiet, relaxing holiday which we thought we were getting from the holiday brochure.. well our first impressions were 'Butlins abroad' because there were kids and English families everywhere! Both swimming pools were packed full of kids and the whole resort in general was full! However we were impressed by our Accommodation, very spacious, clean and plesant. As the holiday progressed we sussed out the best time to go for meals and use the pools at non peak times. The beach was clean and the water clear although the loud music blaring from the bars spoilt the tranquility. I would however like to stress how friendly, helpfull and hard working the hotel staff are. I socialised with them in the evenings and picked up bits of the language. The resort itself is very well kept beautiful gardens, clean pool and restaurant etc but it is overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of holiday makers! It is a very family orientated resort so I wouldnt recommend it for couples. I would however return purely for the fact that the staff were so fantastic and gave me an insight into their culture and way of life. Fantastic holiday for couples with young children.
Great Holiday!
I really enjoyed my stay at the chrousso village, and would love to go back! The holiday is what you make it to be, and the hotel really isnt as bas as some people make it out to be. The only thing that wasn't that great was the quality of the rooms, however if you manage to get a cheap deal your on to a winner! I found the staff helpful and plesent and the reps were great! Allthough the beach is quite a walk away, its definantly worthwhile. The food is good and was different everyday, but may become repetative for 2 weeks. The wasps arn't that bad and only seem to hang around bins etc. However the hotel was very clean and the gardens are well maintained. Overall it was a very good holiday and I would go back for the right price!
Trapped In A Forest In The Middle Of Nowere
The first impression from the first day untill the last was that you are in the middle of nowhere and nobody cares about you at all: VERY VERY VERY BAD STAFF!!!!! (execept maybe for the small guy that manages the restaurant). It's at 400 meters from the sea, but you have to cross a forest on a verry samll pathway, nothing set up, just a line where is no vegetation on the forest is showing you the way to the beach. You can't go there by nigth, since there is no ligth in the forest. There are some dogs walking arround there, not a verry pleasant encounter in the middle of the wilderness. It was WORST STAFF I ever ecountered; the answer to any of our questions was just: BAD LUCK!!!!. We stayed in a room smaller than anyone could immagine, so the answer from the staff: that's it, BAD LUCK, the air conditioning was not working, the same answer: BAD LUCK, they forgot to put a bed for the baby: BAD LUCK, so you can immagine the horror of arriving in an overheated small room, with a baby, with no baby bed in the middle of the nigth. We asked for some food, because we where hungry. The same answer: we knew that you will arrive late, but never thougth to put some food for you, so, no food: BAD LUCK. It was after 01:00 in the nigth and in the middle of the forest there was no place to go do eat, so really bad luck (we payed for all inclusive). There are plenty of other nice accomodations arround. Our only sollution durring the stay there was to rent a car and to go to the beach and other towns arround to have some fun. Don't count on the free minibus: is old, it looks dirty and you have to book it with a few days in advance to get a ride. I feel very sorry for spending the money to go there. We had better accomodation in a 2 star hotel on a very poor country.
Chilled mellow Beautiful
Very Mellow. Excellent kids Club. Beautiful walk to the beach. Off the beaten track. great pools in lovely gardens. Want to go somewhere quiet and chilled out then try this.
Fantastic!
We have just come back from 7 days at Chrousso Village Hotel Halkidiki booked through first choice. Before I went I read every single review and became increasingly worried nearer the time about reports of wasps...so as we all love to know what to expect im going to try and give you as much detail as possible. Left from Gatwick on the 22nd June. Early flight. A bit tiring. Had not booked seats together so were pleased when we got seates together and when departure was early. On outbound journey we got seats near the front of the plane - be warned these seem to be smaller than those further towards the middle and back. Breakfast on the plane hit the spot. smooth flight. bumpy set down. Met rep after baggage reclaim. Found bus. Air conditioned. Comfortable. No stops. Took between 1 and a half hours to two hours. Reasonably smooth journey and straight road. A child was sick on the bus but the rep cleared it up very quickly and sorted it out. On arrival. Checked in. Shown to apartment. We had been up graded for some unknown reason. Which was fab! Massive balcony. With clothes horse and table and chairs. Inside the apartment kettle and crockery etc. kettle takes a long while to boil but I think that has something to do with low voltage electric over here. Two single beds. Bathroom very nice with shower. Don't forget they put the toilet paper in the bin after use (that took a while to get the hang of) as they have smaller pipe work. Very clean. Cleaners came in everday to change bin and bed. Every other day to change towells etc. Lots of storage space for clothes. Steps leading up to apartment gave a front balcony as well. Room over looked pool and was right next to it. Pool...I was quite concerned when i read reviews regarding stones on the bottom of the pool and them being sharp. But it wasn't that bad really. I wouldn't suggest diving and jumping in like others were doing. It is quite strange how it is not tiled but perfectly clean and useable. Very warm water. Has two jugs and a slide which pour water into the pool. All I would say is I had a bikini which had a sort of croched overlayer and that snagged and ripped when I sat on the bottom of the pool as it is nice and shallow for quite a while and there is a ledge you can sit on if you don't want to swim. Enough sun beds to go round. English seem to outnumber other nationalities. Germans are next frequent but there are sweedish etc as well. The foliage is beautifyl. I went away with a complete snob and he loved it so those who say that its not all its cracked up to be must be walking around with their eyes closed. A holiday is what you make it after all! Alot of fruit growing around the village - your not supposed to pick them by the way! Most people seem to be all inclusive. Wasps - I was absolutely packing my pants when I read the reviews about wasps. I went overboard and brought all the repellant and anti wasp stuff possible which i did not use what so ever. And I am now going to sell on ebay! Hardly any wasps! I was soooo pleased! Maybe we went at the right time but it was my main concern and after our first meal i was appeased. We ate all our meals outside. There were more birds flying around near you looking for feed and the ginger tom. The food - same as you would expect any where. Yes if you are staying there for two weeks you are going to get a bit tired of it but it is absolutely gorgeous. The fresh bread everyday is lovely. The butter and milk - well i think the milk is goats milk - urgh. But you got used to it. I would suggest taking a small box of teabags and some sugar for the room as the minimart sells them but individually (or you can grab a couple from the pool bar). What else... Be warned shots are quite large. My partner had a vodka and coke and then we went to play table tennis (which was great fun) made it an amusing game! We actually only found the table tennis on the last day, we went to go and have a peak at the bouncy castle (we dont have kids so we didn't venture up there) and thats where the ampitheatre is and the table tennis which is under the shade of trees which is nice if you want to play midday, quiet as well. The walk to the beach...took us a walk back and forth to find the path because a van was blocking the sign. If you go down between the hotel wall and the mini mart there are cars parked and opposite the scuba school is what looks like a hand made sign stating BEACH and an arrow. You will find a couple of extra wasps down here but not many. There is a rest stop half way with a bench. The trail would benefit from some sort of signage telling people about the abundance of wildlife you can hear and come across. The crickets are very loud. Not a very long path unless your doing it in the midday sun so make sure you have water. The beach is wonderful. Ther are toilets and a wooden path leading down the beach. The first lot of sunbeds and parasols near the bar are free, however, you have to buy drinks from the bar which are very expensive as they are getting the money back for the seats. And if you think you will go and sit on them and just not have a drink... think again. The girls who come round ask if you want a drink and if you say no they explain that they don't charge for the seates so you have to... i personally would rather pay for the seates. One of the girls annoyed me but that was only a millisecond due to the rest of the holiday which was fantastic. You can alsways take your towel and find a secluded spot anyhow which we did afterwards. You can also ask for a packed lunch but you must order it by 7 oclock the night before. Its not that great but it will do. You get a bottle of water in it which is good. We ended up spending hardly any money at all, most of it was on english papers to read. All in all we think first choice did a fantastic job for the price. Im sure there is more I ought to tell you but I can't think of it right now. Oh, the sea was really great to swim in too. My favourite parts of the holiday was swimming in the sea and table tennis. Hope you have a great time. We did.
Great hotel
Got back from Chrousso on June 22nd. We had a fantastic time here and didn't find the wasps and mozzies to be too much of a problem. I didn't think there were that many to be honest but that's just my opinion. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, the staff work really hard and are friendly, it's very clean and the food was lovely. My kids tried everything and loved it, especially the croissants with chocolate sauce for breakfast!! The hotel had 2 lovely pools but I would advise wearing swimming shoes as the bottom of the pool is quite rough. Beach was about a 10 minute walk and beautiful!! Hotel tranfer was about 2 hours but this wasn't a problem and it didn't seem that long as there is lots to see on the way. Hotel lays on a courtesy bus to local towns but I was quite happy where we were staying and would definately go back. KIds made loads of friends and loved playing on the gigantic bouncy castle. Rooms are quite basic but clean but we were hardly in them. I would recommend this holiday. We loved it.
wasps invasion chrousso
well where do i start ..the trip from the airport to the resort was a grueliing 2hours long i would not do that again, the hotel is nice large and very clean all the staff are so very friendly an helpfull, the kids loved it i have a 2yr old and a 5 yr old, they loved the play areas and huge bouncy castle, the rest of us all came home with nervouse twitches the WASPS are a nigjtmare there are hundreds of them we did not ever eat outside as the food attracts them and if you drink anything other than water your chased by them and there all in your drinks in seconds they dont seem to bother the staff its normal to them..i found it a real problem i dont like them near my kids..at the beach there are not so many and the beach is a ten minute walk but worth every minute of that it is beautifull the water is so clean and the beach itself is paradise..the germans didnt seem a problem although the hotel does seem to cater more for them the food is okay a bit repetetive not a huge choice and pudding only comes twice in a week as a treat apart from ice cream for the kids, my little girl did not eat anything all week there isnt much choice for the kids although fresh fruit and yoghurt is nice and there most days, the hotel and staff can not be faulted atall and the wasps are not there fault,by day your invaded by wasps and when night falls your eaten alive by moskitos,, all i can say we had a nice holiday and a few days it rained but within hour the sun was beamimg.. i would not go back only because of the wasps,,take plenty of insect repelants and buy a candle to nput on your table at night to keep the blighters away...thanks chrousso but it wasnt my dream holiday...the pirate ship was okay but when your on it all day then they start playing abba and greece music i started to loose the will to live,,the beach is a must and the best part of the holiday for me,,get a cab into one of the local towns costs ten euros and is an escape from the resort ...
Fantastic holiday!!
My hubby, my daughter (12 yrs), my son (11 yrs) and I all had such a FANTASTIC HOLIDAY HERE in June 2005, THAT WE ARE GOING BACK AGAIN THIS SUMMER. The village setting is beautiful and expertly manicured. Staff are really friendly. The food is very good, with at least four/six choices of main meals, with selections of vegetables and salads, breads etc. The snack bar was fairly basic - cold meats, cheeses, salads, hotdogs, pizza, breads etc, which you helped yourself to. The greek night was a real hit, with barbequed food etc and with local dancers to entertain us. There was actually so much on site for our kids to do, what with two pools, tennis courts, basketball/volleyball court, and the largest bouncy castle we have ever seen!!! Though the site is spread out, and our kids were of an age where they wanted a certain degree of independence, we were able to keep our eyes on our kids at all times. So, we all had a great relaxing holiday, with mum and dad having a well deserved rest, and the kids happy too! A GREAT FAMILY HOLIDAY ALL ROUND! CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK.
What a Fab time!
We spent two weeks at Chrousso Village, It was the first year of all inclusive, and we had a fantastic time. We found it value for money, clean, friendly and set in beautiful surroundings, the gardens are well maintained and the walk to the beach through the trees is lovely, we even saw a wild tortoise! The beach itself is absolutely beautiful, white sand, clear turquoise water, the only thing is I did'nt find a loo down there! There is a snack bar, which is'nt included in all inclusive and is quite expensive and a doughnut man walks up and down the beach. The apartments themselves are a little dated, and basic, but provides all you need, the maid kept it clean, so thats the main thing. We had a bit of a problem with wasps outside, but this seemed to isolated to beneath the vines just outside the restaurant. We did'nt see any other creep crawlies though. Our kids are 7 and 8, and this was ideal for them, but i think older children might get a little bored. the play areas are great and are situated right by the bar area, so while you sit and have a drink in the evening the kids can play. The kids club is good, they have an evening each week where they take the kids to dinner andthen up the club house for dvd's so you can eat on your own, which was nice. All in all, we highly recommend Chrousso for families who just want to chill out and relax. We will return one day.
