All the reviews you have read are exact but generous! This was our worst holiday ever and so boring. Absolutely nothing to do either at the hotel or around it or even in Ierapetra! We have three children aged 8, 6 and 21 months and all of them were bored therefore making it really hard work to relax and enjoy ourselves.
The Mini-Club was rarely open but when it was they only had drawing to do. You signed them in but what for, they were not looked after, at one point we didn't know where our 6 year old son had gone! The food was just awful, and consisted of Salad, Salad or Salad and that was for breakfast lunch and tea. The main dishes were reformed into salad the next day too! We spent over £700 on food outside of the resort even though we were All Incl!
The initial room we went into was so small we couldn't all fit in it, the wood was crumbling away and was full of bugs and the veranda was too dangerous for our kids to go out onto. We got moved after complaining and the this was ok. As for the entertainment, the disco started at 11.00pm and you had to pay for your drinks. These were extremely expensive and the speakers were not working so they downloaded music onto a PC for some sounds!
Other than this no entertainment what so ever and you were in the middle of no where so couldn't go out. The wind on four days was force 6 and practically blew you off your feet too.
Never again.

Booked as a 4 star, wasn’t even 2 star. arrived on the 08/08/06 told we couldn’t have a room until the 11/08/06 along with 13 other British families that week. Tried to move us to a 0 star hovel, that you wouldn’t leave a pet at. Then after many arguments moved us to another 4 star hotel (The Eden rock) that was not recommended for children because of the dangers of falling from heights that existed.
Then after moving in to the Elyros village, the food was crawling in flies and re-used the following day, the pool was dirty and dangerous because of broken tiles and pool lights hanging out. The hotel staff were rude and unhelpful. You could only get beer, flat fizzy drinks, ouzo and brandy in plastic cups. The pool side snacks consisted of cheese, ham and brown lettuce in stale bread. We booked an all inclusive holiday for our family and spent £1.000 + eating out because the food was inedible.
I have since found out that they were aware of this problem for my family before we left Britain. As for the other 13 British families they did this to whilst we were there, I’m sure given the chance they would have rather stayed at home as well. All I can say is shame on med hotels for not telling us there was no room at the inn before we left for this nightmare 2 week holiday.

If you get a good deal on this hotel and want somewhere quiet to sit in the sun and swim (and know what to expect) you will probably think its ok. Don’t go expecting it to be a fully all-inclusive campus where you and the kids will be entertained. Also don’t expect it to be English, we were certainly in the minority. You will need to hire a car from the airport for the duration of your stay, its miles from anywhere. There is nothing within walking distance.
The rooms are reasonable but basic, with fridge, good aircon and towels changed every day. Beds are like concrete. Our balcony was communal (more of a shock for my neighbours than me I think) with no view except trees but at least no building work. The pool is large and clean with a deep half and a shallow half, great for kids. The pool area was peaceful with lots of sun beds but there is still the 7am rush to put the towels out. The very clean black shingle beach is 2 minutes walk through the hotel gardens, it is huge and practically deserted. The sea is good for swimming but not paddling. There is a beach shower which is useful. Water sports are good. There is one mini-market on the road which is basic but ok and a taverna that’s not worth visiting.
The all-inclusive package is restricted i.e.: only soft and local drinks, you cannot even buy other drinks until 23:00. Cheese sandwiches are available all day at the pool-bar, no other snacks. The only entertainment is a mini-disco (two songs and musical chairs) twice a week and a disco every night from 23:00 where you have to pay for any drinks (nobody ever goes in here). The bar has no atmosphere (we thought they had cleared it to decorate when we arrived), very few tables either in the bar or in the reception area and only one barman who kept disappearing. Don’t rely on the TV in the room or in the bar as both only have German channels. There was no noise in the hotel rooms except from night-arrivals. Water was always hot and the shower was ok once we had propped it up in its holder. You can rent large, thick beach towels for 3 euros.
There are tennis courts, one pool-table and air-hockey. The food is basic and Greek, not much choice but plenty of desserts at least and trays are refilled regularly. The salad was nice and occasionally the meat was very good. The dining room struggled to accommodate everybody in high season and the queue for the serving area was often long but we always managed. Guests were usually asked to dress appropriately for lunch but sometimes the seats were wet from swimwear.
The staff were great, very helpful even when obviously struggling to cope with the amount of guests. Hotel does not cash travelers cheques, in fact it never even had any coins for the pool table which I thought was a bit strange.
I would give the hotel a 3* rating at most, its certainly not 4* standard, in fact the 4* rating can only be because of the proximity to the beach, the aircon in the rooms and the large pool. Remember the all-inclusive is only the very basic level.
There is a pleasant sea breeze all the time but sometimes this area can be very windy (some days they wouldn’t allow the water sports). Buses were fantastic (new, air-conditioned coaches and very cheap but only every 2 hours!). Taxis wait outside the hotel (8 euros into town).
Loads of shops and bars in Ierapetra, a large bustling town, 10 mins on bus. Makriagalos is 20 mins drive, quaint little village. The trip to Spinalonga/ Elounda was a really good day, sight-seeing, boat-trip, swimming, shopping, bbq, and only an hour on the coach. There is Go-Karting up the road from the hotel (they will come and fetch you in a minibus an include a free drink!). Aqua park is 2 hours drive but very good, a real highlight for the kids. Otherwise there are no other trips within a reasonable distance.
We wouldn’t go again simply because there wasn’t anything to do either in the hotel or locally, its a bit boring for children.

We had not booked transfers before arriving at the airport which was a huge mistake. We arrived in the early hours of the morning, our cab driver did not know the location of the hotel and it was very difficult to find. Cost us 90 euros each way!
The hotel was clean and we were satisfied with the apartment. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was large and was sea water. The beach was a two minute walk from the apartment and was quiet and pleasant. We found the wind a problem, on a bad day it was difficult to sit on the stoney beach as you were pelted with small stones!
We went all inclusive. We barely ate all week as the food was not great. However there was a lovely restaurant across the road, which served seafood. We did go into Ierapetra a few times; it was about a 20 min bus journey.
The restaurants were nice, but we didn't expect to have to buy other meals when we had paid to be all inclusive. You also have to get a taxi back in the evening as the bus service does not run.
There is little or no evening entertainment at the hotel, the bar is very quiet. There was also a limited amount of drinks to choose from.
Overall I was disappointed with the holiday and would not go back to this part of the island again. It was too quiet and too windy!
