This was never going to be a 5* holiday with lavish meals and copious amounts of fine wine - it was, after all, to celebrate my 18th birthday!
Me and a couple of mates went for two nights, stayed at the hotel remember very little of it and to be honest, loved every second of it!
The hotel was just what we wanted, a stones throw away from the centre of Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) - therefore within a good 2/3 minute walk of all of the clubs and bars.
We could not complain about the room at all, it was spacious, beds were comfy and it was clean. I can suggest buying a few bottles of water from the local Tesco before you go out because the water from the taps is disgusting/poisonous (we didn’t find out which!), and for the morning after, water is essential!
Just around the corner is a perfect little cafe to breakfast, and sit and watch the locals have their regular 2/3 pints of Staropramen on the way to work!
One small problem with area would be the amount of men (mainly short/young/black) who will look for any groups of lads between 16-24 and try to get you to go into their bar. Do not be fooled by the offers of all night girls for £3, this will never come true. Your best bet is to look for the bars that either locals are going into, or the ones with no men patrolling outside.
The food in the area is something else, with a plateful of stew and dumplings washed down with a couple of pints of Pilsner Urquell coming to about £6 a head.
If you are just looking for cheap ale, I have to recommend not staying on Wenceslas Sqaure as this is aimed much more at the younger generation, with the older pubs in the Old Town providing the old fashioned pub atmosphere at around 70p a pint!
Overall a very enjoyable couple of days...and it didn’t affect my January exams either!
